When you did the upgrade, did you use the Upgrade CD or a Full Install CD? I
am curious if you just wrote over Win 3.11. The reason I ask is when I had a
similar problem it was because the system was using drivers that slow the
system down. I ended up doing a format and a full install and it solved the
problem. That may be y our ultimate solution. What I suggest though, is
visiting the Microsoft Web site and go to their support section. There may
be some clues there.

Also, check your control panel > system and make sure there are no conflicts
in the device manager. Also check your autoexec.bat file and see if you have
DOS drivers in there that could be slowing your system down.

Try emptying all your Browser caches and also your Windows/Temp folder as
there may be old files left in there from all your install that should have been
deleted when windows had finished with them.Windows won't let you delete
any that are in use so the are safe to go.
It's worth manually emptying the folder around once a week if you are
installing lots of software or even more frequently if you try a lot of software.

Note that the real question here is not what CD was used,
but whether an upgrade or a clean installation was done.
Either can be done with either CD.

Hi Walter,
It may not be a bad idea to thoroughly defragment your hard disk before
doing anything else.

Also, before installing an program, close all open tasks except Windows
Explorer.

I had a similar problem with an Austin Pentium 60. It turns out I had
accidentally disconnected the turbo switch and the machine was slowing down
to a 286 speed, which made the intallation of Internet Explorer 4.0 a three
hour operation.
