If the shortcut has an arrow on it its just a shortcut and you can
delete it.
The other kind can be moved into a folder in My Computer, which will remove
them from the desktop without deleting the file (if you want to keep the
file.)
Er... I'm not a Win9x user, so this question may seem dumb, but:
Aren't shortcuts supposed to be pointers to the file, and not copies of the
file?????
And doesn't Create Shortcut by default create a pointer?
I'd like to know because I may be installing Win2K sometime soon, and IIRC it
behaves the same way as Win9x. If Create Shortcut does not automatically
create a pointer, that will be another mark against Billy Wallhole's
so-called operating system.

If it's a shortcut, just answer "yes" to the "are you sure"
question. It deletes the shortcut and not the file it points
to.
