Norton deleted the attatched virus from my system without opening it.
Since when did a movie clip have a .exe file ext.

It doesn't apply here of course, but any file type can be executable. It's not
difficult to make a media file self-execute within its own proprietary player -- much
like a self-extracting ZIP doesn't require a separate unzipper.

Yes, a self-extracting ZIP is executable. This is done by combining
the file with a suitable executable file (ZIP extractor). However,
above it sounds like you're talking about file association. This is
NOT making a file executable. It's starting the player (already
instilled) and using the associated file as data.
