I'm having a problem with my system rebooting whenever it feels like it. I
have been running XP and everything was just great then two weeks ago it
started this problem. I bought a new WD 80gig HD and loaded ME, it seems
better, but the problem is still there, I've tried a different video card,
unhooked the floppy and CD rom, tried one piece of memory at a time, but it
still wants to reboot at different times. Could my motherboard be bad, it's
less than a year old.

Despite its name this page is all about shutdown problems only, the OP asked
about random rebooting.

Your motherboard could very well be the cause for a random reboot. Is it
made by Abit ? My motherboard eventually failed but was repaired, the cause
was faulty electrolytics down the side of the CPU slot. I suggest you visit
the following site for further advice:

It may be that the motherboard is not the problem, it could be faulty
memory. You can try running the computer with one stick of ram (that is if
you have two installed), however if you have basic trouble starting it will
most likely be the motherboard.

rebooting can also be caused by overheating- are the fans clean and
working?-max

I had this problem with my Dimension 8200 about 2 weeks after I
recieved it, the machine would randomly reboot, example once a day,,
3 times in 1/2 hour sometime not for a couple days didn't make sense
called tech support we replaced the power supply, then the processor,
reseated all componants, reinstalled win ME.. Finally replaced the
entire computer and all has been well since... good luck
