Allora,
Novice Training,
The White Tower,

Allora and Maerin walked down the hallway together. They were going to
attend a novice class, something about
making flowers bloom, it would be taught by a yellow sister, it seemed
one of the ways to identify novices with a penchant toward healing was
to
teach them to manipulate other living things. Plants were an easy first
step.

Allora was still worrying over Arlia, she had looked much better this
morning when she had brought in a tray of food. Though Arlia was a
petite girl she had eaten every crumb on the tray and still wanted
more.

Maerin sighed "It could have easily been one of us."

Allora looked up from her feet. "Yes, I was thinking that this
morning. Id would be nice to have a soft bed in a warm room, but I am
not willing to go through that."

Maerin let a small laugh escape. Allora had an odd way of looking at
things sometimes.

The girls were the first to reach the garden where the lesson was due to
take place. They took seats on a shaded bench which backed into a
shrub. Both girls were in pensive moods. Neither much wanted to talk
so they set quietly listening to the water splash in a nearby fountain.

Presently they could hear to voices talking. A mans strong voice,
hushed to conceal itself yet both girls recognized it. They sat still
as frightened rabbits staring at each other wide eyed.

"You botched that with the girl, now the Aes Sedai will be looking for a
suspect." said a soft female voice.

"We could easily frame one of the young WiT for the attack. A
Darkfriend amongst the new recruits would set their minds at ease, once
a reasonable suspect is presented to them they will stop looking,
assuming they have their man. No suspicion will fall on me."

"I hope you are correct for your sake. The Great Lord is not forgiving
of failure or mistakes."

The frightened novices heard an unrecognizable sound, then they heard
the man rumbling and cursing under his breath, terror began to grip
them as the footfalls continued closer, then he turned the corner and
was staring directly at them. It was the Head Warder. Allora felt her
blood turn to ice and her throat dry and tighten. An evil grin spread
over his face as he laid his hand on the pommel of his sword.

OOC: absolute perfect timing if you ask me and it didn't suck
either.

NOTE: The following generalizations were discussed at one time
with the real Zak Gaidin who seems to have disappeared from the
NG. Therefore I will insert his parts anyone would be welcome to
join in.

IC: Khal strode away from the training grounds and headed
for his quarters to clean up before he went pounding on the
Amrylin's door. Taking a shortcut through the gardens would
get him there faster. As he rounded the corner he saw for
the first time in months The Head Warder Zak Gaidin. His
elvish face was twisted into an evil grin, twin scimitars
were already in motion. The two novices both looked frightened
into immobility.

Khal knew the man could channel, the only male Aes Sedai, and
there was nothing Khal could do on that level. However those
two novices would not die by the blade alone. Khal would force
the man to use his 'other' abilities which would mark the true
darkfriend in this battle.

Snarling the word "Betrayer" Khal charged in dual swords left
there sheaths and blocked Zak's scimitars. Zak immediatly charged
into Khal using every skill he had learned in his elven life(so
khal thought anyway) Khal reacted swords rang visciously through
the garden and someone screamed. In the void Khal felt the Head
Warder draw first blood. Sliding the offending blade off Khal
struck with 'Forked lightening' and a gash appeared the man
leapt left avoiding the second blade. Khal ducked away right
and turned again to face the betrayer.

This time they approached each other more warily Khal moved
quickly 'Eagles dive' combined with 'Wind in the willows' which
the HW countered quickly and moved in with a series of 'heron
takes flight', 'eagles dive', 'snakes strike'. Deep in the
void Khal countered each motion. The two foes were now engaged
in a dance of death as Khal reached deep in the void to meet his
master motion for motion. The HW struck out with his left foot in
an attempt to take out Khal's legs. Khal jumped over the sweep and
back out of range of the deadly twin blades.

- - - - -
(Zak's view)

The evil grin vanished as Khal appeared. Rimirez had faced
the man in practice and moved quickly to dispatch him. He was
suprised as he each move was knocked aside gracefully. He found
an opening and struck only to leave his own opening and get
a cut for his efforts. Anger welled up he couldn't channel or
all this would become painfully obvious he had to make it look
as if the Khal had killed the two novices.

The battle raged on he couldn't seem to break through Khal's
defenses the man had improved greatly. Angrily he thought of
his other options they were few.

The Healing administered by the Yellow sister she'd found had been quite
harsh; the woman hadn't even wanted to Heal her, saying that what she'd done
was foolish and irresponsible.

She'd been right, but as Daenna dragged herself back to her room, she hadn't
had the energy to allow the woman's scathing comments to affect her. She'd
started up the winding staircase when one floor below her, she heard raised
voices and a piercing shriek.

Without hesitation, she turned and started to run down the steps, taking them
two at a time. When she reached the last landing and turned the corner, the
sight that greeted her eyes was one she could barely comprehend. Khal was
lunging toward Zak Gaidin, yelling "Betrayer!" at the top of his lungs.

Daenna embraced Saidar; it flowed into her easily after this day's efforts.
She did not even stop to think that perhaps she should stay out of it; all she
knew was that Khal had taken it into his head to attack an Aes Sedai, and name
said Aes Sedai as a Betrayer.

She channeled for all she was worth, slamming a shield up between Zak Gaidin
and his link to the Source. She had no way to know how powerful he was, so
she did something she'd never done before. Without giving her twin even the
slightest warning, she dropped the barrier they kept to block their odd link,
and immediately she could feel the link spring to life, seeking Danica.

The shield started to fail, somehow Zak was breaking down Daenna's weave.

The link between the twins was like the tendril of light that sometimes coils
up from the top of a tall tree in a thunderstorm, seeking to connect with a
bolt of lightning. Within seconds it found what it sought. Daenna felt the
additional amount of Saidar that the link provided her with flood into her,
and suddenly, without question, wherever she was, Danica also opened herself
to Saidar, and Daenna came face to face with more power than she could ever
imagine.

Zak Gaidin had punched a hole in the shield; Daenna could feel a tiny shift in
Saidar as he grappled with Saidin. With the additional power from the link,
she made a weave of Spirit and slammed it home. The effect was devastating.

Without meaning to, Daenna had made the weave sharp as a knife, and the force
she'd used to cut Zak off from the Source inadvertently caused more damage
than she could have imagined.

The elf let out a howl of miserable pain as his connection was Severed. He
had been Stilled.

As he and Khal fought, Daenna could see the torment on his twisted face, but
his fighting instincts were still in force. Although she had managed to cut
off his ability to channel, he was still battling with Khal.

She didn't relinquish her hold on Saidar, but she also made no move to
interfere. This was Khal's fight, and she would not rob him of it. Instead,
she ran the rest of the way down the stairs, grabbing Allora and Arlia by the
backs of their dresses and dragging them behind her. To their credit, neither
girl was shrieking or crying, but it was all Daenna could do to pull them out
of the path of the oncoming fighters.

OOC: hmmm I was wondering how I was going to get by that
little problem.

IC: (Zaks view)

Rimarez suddlenly grasped the source and channeled a ball of
air. Khal took in the stomach slamming against the wall.
Rimarez moved in quickly and attacked with renewed fervor
as he held the source. Unfortunately the young WiT had
learned well and the move did not affect his balance.
Although Rimarez was able to get the tips of those scimitars
through his defenses.

Suddenly the source was gone a shield? He pressed against
it his concentration divided made it difficult to control the
battle and the source. He punched a hole and tried to
scorch his attacker when suddenly it was gone again. He
let out a shriek of anger and charged Khal turning at the last
instant toward the woman coming down the steps the only thing
on his mind was to KILL that woman. He didn't even notice
his disguise drop.

- - - - -

IC: (Khal)
Khal was slammed hard against the wall and delighted in the
fact the man or elf was forced to use extra means to win. Then
the elf charged in and Khal was barely holding his own.

He saw Daenna approach and she looked deep in concentration.
The elves attack faltered then renewed momentarily. Khal almost
found himself dead as one deadly scimitar thrust forward, Khal
sidestepped and the elf let out a shriek that was deafening.

The man seem to change right in front of his eyes. Zak Gaidins
elven features left his face to become the normal features of
any human. He had deep black hair and looked to be around 40 or
50. His face would have been disguished if it was not twisted in
pain and rage. The man suddenly lunged away from Khal headed
towards Daenna.

Not allowing him room Khal cut the man off. Twin blades met
twin blades and the ring of steel on steel echoed off the walls
of the garden. The man whom Khal had thought was the Head
Warder was incredibly skilled and using some strange technique
Khal had never seen. Deep in the void his twin blades knocked
away the whirlwind of scimitars that just kept coming after
him. Every strike now seemed to draw blood and Khal was almost
completly covered in it. He had gotten his own shots in and
the man looked like the rag Khal would be using to clean up:)

Khal was wearing down and had no idea what to expect when
the battle ended. Reaching deep within himself, deep within
the void, he struck with a move he had read about. The double
cross was a dual blademasters move and no-one left here could
claim that title. As both swords rose and fell in a crossing
pattern it left an opening that if taken the attacker would
die from the falling blades. The man across from him knew
this and countered the four blades caught in a tangle and as
they did Khal kicked out hard. He caught the man square in
the chest and all four tangled blades went flying. Khal pulled
his regular sword as the man came up with a single scimitar.

In one swift move Khal struck before the scimitar could
be brought into play. 'Eagle glides on the wind' the scimitar
came forward 'snakes bite' and stuck in Khals side but the
mans head rolled off his shoulders in a spray of blood. Khal's
last thought, his last move was to make sure everyone in the
garden was okay, as he turned the blood running from his
multiple cuts began to take their toll. He stumbled toward
the assembled crowd wondering what was next.

OOC: An honorable death for Zak Gaidin, even though he WAS a darkfriend. BTW, I
know we discussed this before, but rp this out with me if you've changed your mind.
:)

IC: Novices forgotten, Daenna charged forward as Khal lurched towards the crowd.
She nearly tripped over Zak Gaidin's head in her rush, but she didn't even turn a
hair.

There was a Yellow in the crowd, but the woman made no move towards him; Daenna
looked up with pleading eyes. It was not right for an Accepted to Heal such a
grievously wounded man if there was a full Yellow sister about, but the woman merely
looked down at Daenna with sad eyes and said "I'm sorry child, he's too close to the
edge to bring back."

Daenna's eyes widened, and her mouth worked, but under her hands, blood was spurting
out of Khal's body. She wanted to scream, to rail against the Yellow, to grab the
woman by her hair and MAKE her do something.

A thought crept into her mind, stray and vague, but she grabbed onto it as though it
was the last link to her sanity. Disregarding the Yellow, she laid her hands along
the sides of Khal's face and once more reached out to the enormous pool of Saidar
that Danica had helped her to find.

She wasn't sure it would be enough.

:::Bond him!::: Danica's voice rang through Daenna's head.

Daenna looked up to see her twin standing on the edge of the crowd.

:::But if he's not willing...::: She shot the thought back at her twin, a new light
of hope flashing before her eyes.

:::Burn you, Daenna, do you think he would choose death over being your Warder?:::

:::But I'm not even Aes Sedai yet! Accepteds do not take Warders! I can heal him,
I know I can!::: She set to work once more, channeling for all she was worth. To
bond him without his permission would be akin to rape. She couldn't live with his
death, but neither could she live with the idea that he might hate her for it.

"Khal," she whispered, lowering her face close to his. "Khal, don't worry, I can do
this." She looked up at the Yellow again, who made no move to stop her. She
couldn't be sure that Khal was hearing her, much less understanding her, but she
decided to ask anyway.

"Khal," she whispered, then paused, unsure of how to go on. "Light, I was going to
ask you anyway, once I was raised to Aes Sedai, but if I bond you as my Warder, I
may be able to heal you better." His eyes were closed now, and she talked faster
and faster as she worked.

If he accepted, she would bond him and do her penance like a good little Accepted.
If he declined, she would channel until she burned herself out if she had to; she
would NOT allow this man to die.

Celeste was using some of her rare free time to catch up with Cassandra, who
she hadn't had much time to talk with during her stay at the Tower. They were
walking peaecfully through the halls, exchanging the latest gossip from the
chapterhouse, when they stumbled upon a crowd of people.

"Light, what do that be for?" Celeste exclaimed.

Cassandra shrugged her shoulders, "I don't know. But I'm going to find out."
She pushed her way through the crowd of Aes Sedai, Accepteds, Novices, Warders,
Warders in Training, and Tower staff, followed closely by Celeste who had to
stop every few seconds and apologize to all the people. And when she got to
where she could see, she gasped.

The floor was covered in blood, and it seemed to be coming both from the
headless body of a man (Cassandra turned green and quickly looked away from
that) and from a huge gash in Khal's side. He was laying on the ground, and
right next to him was Daenna, her seven-banded Accepted's dress spotted with
blood as she knelt next to him, her eyes half-shut in concentration. "She do
be channeling," Celeste whispered to her cousin.

Everyone was whispering, in fact, stunned by the sight. So they could hear
when Daenna made a heartfelt plea to the half-unconsious Warder in Training.

">"Khal," she whispered, then paused, unsure of how to go on. "Light, I was
>going to
>ask you anyway, once I was raised to Aes Sedai, but if I bond you as my
>Warder, I
>may be able to heal you better." His eyes were closed now, and she talked
>faster
>and faster as she worked.

"Oh, Light!" Cassandra thought. "Thallia's going to be furious!" But that was
silly. She and Daenna had stopped that petty quarrel. And the only reason
Cassandra was thinking of that was because she didn't want to let her thoughts
turn to the dead man's head, lying there in a puddle.

Celeste bit her lower lip. She could see what Daenna was doing, and just barely
recognized it as a Healing weave, though a much more complex one than she'd
been taught in her first lesson with a Yellow sister. She wanted to step in
and help somehow, for she did know things about healing, but not with the One
Power. But she, like all of the onlookers who could have stepped forward to
help, was held back by some invisible force which seemed determined to let
Daenna deal with Khal alone. Call it Fate, call it the Pattern, but the Wheel
was turning right there in the Tower halls.

OOC: I'm going to manhandle your characters! If I'm out to lunch, re-write it,
'kay? :)

IC: Danica could barely comprehend what had happened. One minute she was in the
ter'angreal store rooms playing with her icemaker, and the next minute, the link
had found her. She shuddered to think of the mess she'd left on the floor; when
the link had snapped to life, she'd jumped about a pace off the floor and knocked
over the desk and chair in her haste to get upstairs.

She'd never tried to embrace the Source while panicking and running up two flights
of stairs, but all of Egwene Sedai's training had not gone unused. She opened
herself and started to draw Saidar, feeding every drop into the strange link the
twins possessed.

By the time she reached the top of the stairs and run to where she could hear the
shouts and voices, all that was left to see was Khal, his head in Daenna's lap and
bleeding like the proverbial skewered pig.

She heard the Yellow's comments, and the first thing that popped into Danica's head
was that if he was a Warder, the Yellow would have at least TRIED.

That led to a rather surprising chain of thoughts, which is when Danica decided to
Speak to her twin.

Daenna's own refusal to bond Khal angered Danica somewhat; it was plain that the
man was in a bad state. However, as she pushed through the crowd and came to stand
beside Celeste, she could see that Daenna was channeling like mad, and making some
progress.

Another idea occurred to her; if for whatever reason Khal wouldn't accept the bond
gift right now, Daenna would need more access to Saidar.

She leaned over and spoke in Celeste's ear. "Will you help her? You don't have
to, there may be some angry people." Celeste looked back with wide eyes, and
nodded shortly.

"All right, if anyone is angry, tell them that I bullied you into this. Don't
argue with me," she said as the other girl started to object. She smiled quickly,
to take the sting out of her words. She wasn't bossy by nature, but she didn't
want a Novice to have to deal with angry Aes Sedai.

"Open yourself to the Source," she said, "but don't embrace it. Just open to it."
She slipped her palm into Celeste's, and suddenly Celeste's own glow merged with
Danica's and Danica drew even more of the source, feeding that energy into the
twin-link as well.

Daenna looked up when she felt the surge, eyes wide with surprise. Danica grinned
at her, and Spoke; :::Don't ever say I don't do anything for you!:::

Hey, go ahead and manhandle. =) As you might be able to tell, I'm rather bored
today, so I'll have yet another one of my characters show up. Besides, someone
has to be there to yell at Daenna if she does bond Khal. ;)

To ic:
Serenia Sedai strode down the hallway, heading towards her usual destination:
the library. She was thinking of new ways to test her ter'angreal when she came
upon a crowd of people. Always curious, she asked the first Novice she saw
what was happening.

"Terrible it is, yes? The Head Warder, a darkfriend he is! Khal is injured, no?
Dead is the man, on the floor is his head. See what you can do about it you
will, yes?" the Novice responded, Taraboner accent strong even though she was
obviously distressed. Serenia gave her a nod and stepped through the crowd,
which graciously moved to the side to let her by. (being Aes Sedai /does/ have
its advantages) She stopped near the edge and surveyed the scene, seeing it
was much like the Novice had said.

The dead man, Serenia didn't even look at. Her eyes were on the Warder in
Training lying with his head in an Accepted's lap. She was one of those twins
that all the Sedai had been speaking about. Either the one who had discovered
many things about ter'angreal (and with this Serenia remembered that she had
been planning on speaking with her) or the one who had been spending all her
time learning battle weaves in the Library. That was the problem with twins,
one could never quite tell them apart.

The Accepted was surrounded by the glow of Saidar, as was her mirror image,
standing in the crowd beside a novice, who also was holding the Source. They
were linked, and linked much more strongly than anyone that Serenia had seen in
her (small compared to the other Aes Sedai, but still long enough) years of
experience.

Serenia studied the weaves the Accepted was making, and knew that something big
was going to happen. There were the usual Healing weaves, more intense than
she'd seen anyone weaving, but also, something else, barely forming, as if she
was waiting for an answer of some sort. If it was what Serenia thought it
might be, there would definitely be problems. But then again, she'd only seen
them once, and these weren't even actual weaves, just tendrils of the Power,
held at the ready.

ooc: Sorry Nerim this one is all Daenna's
Daenna you may notice at some point Khal's been
bonded before. Just to explain when he first arrived
at the tower she removed the bond to keep from being
discovered. It was his mother who was Black Ajah.
You can RP that any way you want to or not at all just
thought you should know about it.

IC: Khal looked into the crowd and saw that there wasn't
any more danger. Then as he dropped the void all the
pain and fatigue struck him. He looked down realizing
just how much was blood was lost. He sheathed his
sword and dropped to one knee. He closed his eyes against
the pain.

Suddenly she was there. He opened his eyes momentarily
and looked into Daenna's eyes. He knew it was her and not
Danica. He could tell them apart somehow he couldn't
explain it he just could. Those beautiful eyes were filled
with determination as she spoke softly to him she began to delve.

Ice flowed through his body as she started the process.
Cold oh so cold like he was buried in snow. Slowly he felt
the fatigue begin to take its toll the energy to heal him
was asking his body for more but Khal had no more to give.
Then he heard the question from what seemed like miles away

"If I bond you I may be able to heal you better"

That was music to his ears, his eyes opened and through
the fog of his fatigue he looked in to her eyes "I would be
honored to be your Warder even if only for these last few
moments." His eyes closed then and ice barreled through
him. He could feel her there in the corner of his mind. He
felt a rush of strength coming into his body through the bond
Still he could not hold onto conciousness and everything
went black.

- - - - - -

His eyes popped open and he found himself staring at the
painted ceiling. His head and body ached and he closed eyes
trying to remember why he was here. He could feel a presence
in his mind not too far away. It was similar to that he
felt before his arrival at the Tower.

Memories flooded back to him and with them understanding.
Daenna had bonded him and somehow some time ago he remembered
a similar presence lost to him when he arrived at the tower.
He wondered on these and fell asleep again.

When next he awoke he again felt the presence and then
the hunger hit him. He tried to rise and as he swung his
feet to the floor fell flat. He stood back up and held
onto the bed his body screaming for food.

The words were said quietly, but they filled Daenna with a rush of joy
the likes of which she had never known.

Danica and Celeste continued to feed more and more of the One Power into
the twin-link, and Daenna closed her eyes as she set the bond.

She'd read about it a few times, and had watched a Green sister bond a
man she had decided to marry. Ordinarily it wasn't something that
required an audience, but since the wedding ceremony had just taken
place, nobody felt embarassed to watch two people take their vows one
step further.

A bright, fizzling feeling jarred her right to the bone, and as it
receded, tiny spots of pain flared up all over her body. She felt the
slightest bit of resistance to the setting of the bond, and her brow
furrowed in confusion. It was as though he had already been bonded once
before, but how could that be possible?

In any case, she knew that each tiny spot of pain she felt represented a
wond on Khal's body, and she used this new, intimate knowledge to
concentrate her Healing on the parts of him that needed it most.

She was barely aware of the angry buzz in the room; she was too busy
watching renewed color come into Khal's face. His chest was moving
slowly but rhythmically, and she sighed in relief. He was stable now,
breathing well and no longer bleeding. She sat back on her heels, not
because she wanted to move away from him, but because she didn't want to
fall over on top of him. She released the Source and fell over anyway,
but on her side.

The two lay there for a moment, Daenna on her side with her cheek
pillowed against her blonde hair and her eyes heavy with exhaustion. It
wasn't long before gentle hands had picked Khal up and moved him, and a
not so gentle pair of hands helped her to her feet.

It was Serenia Sedai, and she looked about as cross as cross could be.

Off in the distance, she could feel Khal's exhaustion and hunger, but
she knew that the Warders and the WIT's would take care of him.
Realization dawned in her that now she was going to have to deal with
the consequences of her actions.

What was that Cairhienan saying she'd heard the Novice Maerin mutter?
'Take what you want and pay for it'? Well, looking into Serenia Sedai's
face, Daenna had a hunch she would most certainly be paying for it.

Serenia was wearing her sternest expression, and felt that even that might not
be stern enough. "You bonded him, didn't you?"

Daenna was smart enough not to lie. Instead she nodded, with an expression on
her face that showed that she knew that what she'd done was wrong, but that she
was willing to face the consequences. Serenia respected that. She also
respected the fact that Daenna had probably managed to save Khal's life by
bonding him. But it wasn't hers to judge what she had done, only to report her
to the proper authorities.

"You'll have to go to the Mistress of Novices for this. Light knows how much
trouble you're in!" Serenia said, in her sternest voice. "No use putting it
off. Come with me."

OOC: Okay, here's the trip to the MoN. Egwene Sedai, if you're out there, sorry
to put words in your mouth! Feel free to change whatever you need to, and jump
right in!

The only thing that kept Daenna from feeling the humiliation as Serenia Sedai
dragged her down the hallway was the fact that out there, she could still feel
Khal, and she knew that he was all right.

The got to the Mistress of Novices' study, where Daenna sat meekly on the hard
wooden bench and waited for her turn.

It took less time than she'd thought.

The door swung open not two minutes later, and Egwene Sedai motioned for her to
take a seat. Daenna did so quickly, not daring to look into Egwene's eyes.

"Explain yourself." Just two words, but they fell from Egwene Sedai's lips like
icicles. Daenna launched into her story, explaining about how she'd successfully
tested the Strangle weave, and then come back to the Tower.

"When I returned, I sought healing from Carian Sedai, and then went to find my
bed." She went on to explain a rather abbreviated version of the battle, and then
got right down to the topic of the actual bonding.

"He was going to die, Egwene Sedai." She finally raised her eyes to the MoN's, and
looked at her beseechingly. "Carian Sedai stood over his body and told me that he
was beyond saving. But he's alive; I kept him alive by the only means available to
me. I am truly sorry for what I've done." She hoped that her words were sinking
in.

Egwene Sedai simply looked at her silently, as though waiting for more
justification. Daenna scrambled a bit, but finally came up with some.

"WiT Khal has been a valuable member of the White Tower. In the absence of the
Head Warder, who we now know to be a Darkfriend, Khal has overseen the training of
new WiT's, and has even gained the respect of the men who are already Warders. I'd
not be surprised if even the Gaidin put him forward as the new Head Warder."

"In addition, he is a war hero; he only just returned to the Tower after a hunt for
Pat Gaidin. I suppose telling you his accomplishments doesn't help you much, but
please, before you punish me, take into consideration that he is an extraordinary
person, and worth saving by any means."

Daenna looked down at her feet again, hoping that she hadn't said too much.

"Serenia Sedai," the MoN said, "you were there. Please give me your opinion on
what we should do about this matter."

Serenia stood off to the side while Daenna explained herself, rambling a bit in
order to convince Egwene that what she did was the right thing. And with every
word she said, she kept thinking more and more that the Accepted /had/ done the
right thing.

But she wasn't about to say a word, no. That was Egwene's business, not hers,
and thankfully so. Serenia could teach, but discipline just wasn't something
she did. However, the Wheel was weaving against her....

>"Serenia Sedai," the MoN said, "you were there. Please give me your opinion
>on
>what we should do about this matter."

Serenia started, surprised that she be asked about the matter. Sure, she was
there, but other sisters had been, too. (but you were the one who brought her
in! shouted a voice in her head, which she quickly told to shut up so she could
think)

"Well, I did see him, and he was hurt beyond all conventional methods of
Healing being able to bring him back, at least from where I could tell. And
Daenna /did/ try conventional Healing. But it just didn't work. And she asked
before she bonded him, I guess that goes for something..." Serenia refrained
from mentioning that his acceptance of her bond was one of the sweetest things
she'd heard in years.

"But it's not my place to decide what should be done one way or another." With
that, Serenia stopped talking, feeling like somehow /she/ was the one who had
gotten in trouble. Maybe it was just that being back in the Mistress of
Novices' office brought back bad memories of her own punishments.

Cassandra and Celeste,

A New Bond,
White Tower,

Celeste stood, clasping Danica's hand, and feeling for the first time the very
odd sensation of being linked to someone else. She was touching Saidar, but
not. She could feel Danica and Daenna there, within the link. Daenna was
distraught, on the verge of breaking down, and Danica was trying her hardest to
support her sister. All Celeste could do was to allow her connection to the
One Power to help Daenna as she worked.

But soon, Daenna's weaving stopped, and she asked Khal if she could Bond him.
He responded with a 'yes' and she began to weave again. Gasps of amazement
came from the rest of the crowd, along with enraged whispers. Celeste was so
shocked she almost closed herself off to Saidar. Daenna was only an Accepted!
Bonding someone before you were an Aes Sedai was a terrible offense.

Daenna finished the weave and let the link dissolve, falling onto her side.
Celeste felt Saidar draining away from her, leaving her feeling about as tired
as Daenna. Cassandra, who hadn't been able to see anything, gave Celeste a
questioning look. "I do be telling you later," Celeste told her cousin,
watching as Khal was gently guided off by some of the Warders in Training and
Daenna was not-so-gently hauled off by an Aes Sedai with dark hair.

"She do be in trouble, no?" Celeste asked Danica, who was watching her sister
with a far-away look in her eyes. "For what??" Cassandra asked, totally
confused.

Danica watched her sister being hauled away, and she decided that before
one of the other Aes Sedai decided that punishment was due all around,
she motioned for all the Novices to follow her, as well as Cassandra.

(OOC: Uh, besides Celeste, who all is still here? Allora, Aneliya?)

IC: They all followed rather meekly, Danica thought, but then they'd
all just been witness to a beheading and a bonding. She supposed that
would be enough to make ANYONE meek.

She herded them into an empty classroom, and gestured for them to take a
seat.

There were about twenty girls in all, and a few of them still had
shocked looks on their faces. Two looked as though they wanted to sick
up, but thankfully they were able to gain control of their stomachs.

When they were all seated, she at each of them, and spoke. "What you
just saw is a terrible thing. I'd suggest that those of you new to
bloodshed should get together this evening and talk it over. Sometimes
when you let an event like this occur without talking it out afterwards,
you can have nightmares and such. It helps to have someone to share the
experience with." A few girls nodded nervously, and Danica continued.

"What you saw at the end there was Daenna bonding Khal as her Warder."
There were a few gasps; most were new enough never to have seen the
weave before.

One of them, a slight girl with thin lips, shifty eyes, and barely the
strength to light a candle stuck her hand in the air and waved it
furiously. At Danica's nod, she asked "I thought we had to wait until
we were full sisters before we took Gaidin!" She said in a rather whiny
tone, and the sneer in it made Danica want to tell the girl that the way
SHE was channeling, she'd probably NEVER get past Novice, much less take
a Warder. But she answered anyway.

"It is true. According to custom, nobody but full Aes Sedai may bond a
Warder." The girl waved her hand about some more, but Danica
anticipated her question.

"Some of the things that come with the bond-gift are the ability to
sense shadowspawn, the ability to go for longer periods without rest,
and the ability to survive an injury that would kill a normal man." At
that, the girl's hand stopped waving, and all around the room, every
face showed a look of understanding.

Danica turned to Celeste and smiled. "You asked why Daenna is in
trouble, and I can tell you this; the Aes Sedai will not be best pleased
to hear that an Accepted has bonded a Warder. I can only hope that
before they send her away to do her penance on some farm in the middle
of nowhere, that they give some thought to the REASON she bonded him,
not just the actual act."

She turned back to the classroom, addressing everyone once more.
"Something like this almost never happens, but the last time it was
recorded in the Chronicles, the Accepted involved was forced to pass her
bond to a full sister, and spent nearly 22 years following a pig around
a forest in Andor, searching for truffles." Some of the girls giggled,
and Danica smiled at them. "In that case, however, the Accepted
involved bonded the man to keep another woman from bonding him before
she was Raised. A purely selfish reason."

She looked out the high window, noting the position of the sun. "You
may all go now, but remember, speak of this to nobody; if I hear any of
you telling tales to the other Novices or the Tower servants, I'll find
you and take you to the Mistress of Novices myself. Girls who tell
tales often find themselves scrubbing pots for so long that they start
to think they ARE a pot!"

One by one, each girl filed out, until only Allora, Celeste, Cassandra,
and (OOC: fill in your name here if you're a player Novice) remained.

I'd caught the gist of what had been going on, but I wasn't sure of the
details. Spotting Danica, who I vaguely knew from her being around, talking
to some novices, I wandered over.
'Hello, Accepted,' I said. ' What's been going on?'
Some of the novices, who were just leaving, giggled, and one girl shouted
out, 'Careful you don't Bond him by mistake!' The others sniggered, but I
ignored them, waiting for Danica's reply.

Danica's eyes widened as she looked at the WiT. For whatever reason, he hadn't
heard yet, so she told him the abridged version of the story.

When she got to the part about Khal beheading the man, Nerim's eyes darkened;
she thought that either he was unhappy that he hadn't been there to get his own
licks in, or he was worried about Khal's wounds. Whatever he actually thought
was a mystery to her though, so she went on.

"Afterwards, he was injured so badly that Healing him wasn't having much of an
effect. So my twin bonded him." THAT news had a little more of an impact on
Nerim.

She was a little nervous telling him; she knew that the extenuating
circumstances would save Daenna from the worst of it, she sincerely hoped that
the other WiT's wouldn't see Khal's bonding as anything other than a means to
keep him alive.

She set aside her desire to keep trying to explain, and waited for Nerim's
words.

Arlia looked about the room...wondering inside if one of them helped
more...like herself...then he would not have been wounded enough to need
bonding. Arlia decides to slip out...feeling guilty and not wishing to

Cassandra sat amongst the novices, feeling oddly colorful in her drab brown
dress. Danica was explaining all that Daenna had done to a rapt audience,
Cassandra included. Everything that had happened was simply amazing, from the
darkfriend to Khal's injury, to the gasps of anger when Daenna had Bonded him.

Cassie didn't know much about Bonding, but from what she knew, she hoped that
Daenna was positively sure that she wanted Khal to be her Warder. Of course,
according to what Danica was saying, poor Daenna might not end up having Khal
as her Warder after all. And wouldn't /not/ having the man you wanted as your
warder be worse than having a man you didn't want as your Warder? Or were they
about the same?

Either way, Cassandra hoped that Daenna didn't end up getting in too much
trouble for what she'd done. During their lessons, she'd started to think of
both the twins as her friends, and she hated to think that for saving someone's
life, her friend might be forced to live out her life as a truffle-digger.

Celeste didn't know Danica or Daenna as well as Cassandra, but she still felt
pity for Daenna, who, chances were, was getting the punishment of her life.
The first lesson she'd had in the Tower was the various punishments one could
be faced with if they broke the rules. And none of them were any fun.

I was extremely surprised about the whole incident, but knew it was none of
my business, and told Danica so. I remembered about the time I'd spent with
Serenia Sedai, the Sister who had led Daenna away, when I helped her in the
library. From most of the Brown sisters I'd seen, including Serenia herself,
I didn't think they'd notice if someone Bonded them, nevermind someone else.
But Serenia was still young; maybe she came out of herself sometimes.
Danica was looking a bit worried, I guessed about the whole incident, so I
reassured her, 'I know that Khal wanted to be your sister's Warder. He won't
let anyone separate them.' She didn't look any better, and I would have
asked her to walk with me to see Khal, but with a few novices still floating
around, I thought this would just cause her more problems.
Bowing to all present, I excused myself and left to find Khal.
