I hand painted my invitations!! All 150 of them!! It took me about 18
hours of work but it really wasn't that difficult and I'm not the greatest
painter. The response has been incredible. People think it is so
original and are so impressed by its originality. Here's what I did:
I got 5 pieces of watercolor paper and some yellow and orange watercolor
paint. I then used both colors on a wide brush to put a wash of colors on
the paper. Then I tore the paper into 5x4 pieces of paper which would fit
on my invitation I bought from Rexcraft. Then I took a smaller round
brush and some blue and white acrylic paint. I dipped the brush in Blue
paint until it kinda mushed out to be a flat brush. then I picked up just
a bit of white paint on only one side of the brush. You lay the brush
white side up on the paper and fan out the bristles, put up the but of the
brush slightly push up then a broad stoke down. I know that sounds a bit
complex but it is a really easy and simple brush stroke. You do about 3-6
strokes per flower.
I put two large flowers on each invitation with 3 baby flowers. Then I
took green acrylic paint and added the stem petals just under the flower
and took a green marker totem leaves. The only thing left was to get some
spray adhesive and take my invitations and fold them backwards so that the
painting was adhered to the front piece of paper and the actual wording of
the invitation was on the inside. Best of all since we used response
postcards instead of something bulkier one 32 cent stamp was all that was
needed.
Now I can't wait to start getting the response postcards!!
