Wear something that will compliment with the hunter green bridesmaid
dresses.
Black is not appropriate color for mother of bride. When did pastels
become a "grannyish" color?????? That did give me a chuckle. Wonder
what your daughter would think about a 43 yrs old bride???? BTW.. I
am that age and first time bride. 8>)
You wear the color you feel most comfortable in. Personally for the
time of year (summer) I would go with a light color. Its cooler for
one thing. As long as the color compliments the colors of the wedding,
your home free. As far as length of dress, since your daughters
wedding is late afternoon either length is fine.
Hope this helps.

how about a dark turquoise in an ankle-length? pick a great
pattern and some terrific silk and go for it!

Sharon,
You're wrong. :-)
My nickel's worth for you: Get that red dress, Girlfriend!! It's party
time!! You are celebrating the joyous event of your daughter's Nuptials
and Grand Soiree! Rock on! At 44, you're young.
OK, OK, I'll calm down....
Foremost, find yourself a comfortable frock. Comfortable in cut and fit.
Length and style *must* be within your comfort zone. Presumably, you are
the hostess of the Grand Soiree. A little flash is appropriate! You
don't have to light up like for High Mass.......
Get out there and shop *right now!* Find something that *works*. This
will be your fallback position. Put it in your closet with all tags and
receipts intact. Now you have *something* to wear. That takes the
pressure off. Now you also have 4-1/2 months to bump into a frock that
makes your heart sing! If you find something better, return the first one
(ensuring it's returnability, however, when you purchase.)
TLOTH's attendants wore frocks like your daughter's attendants. Same
color. (Nuptials at same time of day, too....) My frock was periwinkle
blurple. I have silvery hair. Two-piece frock. Tank dress with
long-sleeved jacket. Frog closure. Poly crepe. Neutral hose. Black
t-strap mid-heels. Peau d'soie. Nordstrom, all. I'm a size 22-24.
(Have a look at her pix at
http://www.lpl.arizona.edu/~schaller/Barb/wedding). I was lookin' good!
Had a frabjous time at the Grand Soiree, too!
Don't fret about your frock not coordinating with the attendants'.
Pah!! There are *very few* pictures taken where a clash might really
matter!
You need to be comfortable and your psyche needs to feel like a million
bucks! Don't worry about outshining Your Daughter The Bride. Won't
happen. I guarantee.
Oh, you're gonna have so much fun!!

PS! Wear what makes you feel beautiful!!!! It will make you feel good all
day, and in turn wear off on your daughter! Go all out, spend some time
and money shopping for yourself! I'm sure when it's all over you will have
earned it! :)

What style are the flowers and other indicators of mood? Soft and romantic, or
dramatic and colorful? In other words, if the bouquets will be pink, yellow,
and cream garden roses, your dress should probably be either pastel (yellow or
apricot would be lovely, especially if the bride's gown is ivory) or a deep
color such as burgundy or navy, in a tea-length chiffon, simply-cut crepe
sheath, or other 'daytime' dress. If the ladies will each carry a single
long-stemmed deep red rose, your dress should be black, white, gold (or any
metallic), or red (or a combination of those colors), probably in a tailored or
cocktail style.
You can wear either 'afternoon' or 'evening' clothes for a 4:00 church wedding,
depending on the overall style of the occasion -- are the men wearing tuxes?
Is the reception formal? It's probably too early for sequins, but plenty late
for a low neckline and long skirt.
I am having trouble imagining turquoise with hunter green, unless you can find
something in a blue-to-green mixed print. But red is perfectly appropriate as
long as the style and cut are appropriate to your age and figure and to the
occasion. I mean, you weren't envisioning a skimpy little Lycra thing, right?
Solid black is more questionable, except at a black-and-white wedding, because
of the death-and-widowhood implications, but imagine a white jacket with black
soutache on the lapels over a black chiffon skirt. Or a black dress with a red
floral print.
Think style, not color, and you'll have an easier time of it. Go shopping and
see what you find that won't clash with hunter green. :-)
