Ok downloaded an ISO of COD MW2, burned successfully to disk and installed
to HDD, after install I switched the console off to watch the football but
upon switching back on the game is saying I must install an update for it
too work properly, as I don't play online is this safe to do? Also I believe
I have read elsewhere that certain people are in the very early stages of
making it possible to install homebrew to the 360 will this update affect
any future chance of this happening as I know MS have already put out an
update that renders it impossible to put on HB if it becomes available.

TIA

If you install the update there is no way that you'll ever be able to
use the JTAG exploit to run homebrew stuff on your 360.
You could run 360 Wavepatcher on the iso file and change it back to a
'Wave 3' game, as long as you don't try playing on Live with it, that
might let you play the game without the update
You probably are safe connecting to live now that the banning spree
appears to be over, but if your 360 was listed to be banned at an
earlier date you'll probably just get it banned from Live which means
you'll lose the ability to install games to the hard disk.
