I need to run a cat 5 to two PC's from the wirless router as they are
too far for any useful signal.
Can I run one cat5 and split it to the two?

You can but you'll need a switch on the end of the cable distant from the
router.

This sort of thing:

ᅵ22 inclusive.

Run a single cable from the router into switch then two cables out from
the switch to each PC.
No other setup required.

Also worth a look;

sorry for the length - copy and paste carefully.

Basically there are 4 pairs of wires in a CAT5 cable of which
you only use 2 pair for each machine, so it is possible to
network 2 PC's onto the same piece of cable.

A thought,

Cat 5e only uses the blue and orange pairs, but if you want to use VOIP
in the future or upgrade speeds in the future you need all 4 pairs.

I would run a Cat 6 cable to each PC to give a bit of future proofing.

Thanks for the replies - I have ordered a set of homeplug (mains
multiplex) thingies - they "claim" 85Mbps - much better than the 2-16
I get at the far end of the house!!!
