I have just bought a wireless router from PC World which came with one
wireless USB adaptor and wish to get a second USB adaptor!!
PC World want ~50 for one and I have seen one advertised elsewhere
for 9 but it is a different make - do I have to use the same make (Belkin)
or can I use any make and what are the compatibility problems???

Thanks.

Lee.

You can use any but get one that can match the speed of your router ........
so if your router is 108m, then get a 108m usb adapter so you get the full
speed from the router via wireless

Thanks.

My router is a basic beginners Belkin starter kit which conforms to
11g/11b/3u
and 3 ..does that mean anything to you or should I take it back and get
some-
thing a bit more ambitious?? as I am on 10gigs at the moment and routers are
a bit new to me - or vice versa!!

Regards.

Lee.

Your belkin one sounds like it supports 11m (1.375 MB/s) and 54m (6.75 MB/s)
.......... slightly below your current 10MB/s linespeed , but still more
than useable :)
Check the belkin homepage for your model number and it will tell you how far
your 802.11g goes up to as this can vary between 54m and 140m

Ideally you would want one that supports 802.11g (108m or more), or 802.11n
(300m)

108m = 13.5 MB/s
300m = 17.5 MB/s

If it was my money id buy myself a 300m , that way if you decide to upgrade
your line to 20 MB/s then you have enough headroom left there to take the
higher data rate on wireless.

This is a reasonably priced one, and the kind of kit my money would go on

http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Peripherals/Network+Products/Wireless/DSL%2FCable+Router/GetNet+WLAN+802.11n+300mbps+4-Port+DSL+Router+?productId=38840

And a 300m adapter to go with it. You can get a 150m one for 9 , but it
wont leave you with that extra headroom should you decide to upgrade your
broadband and spending 17 on one just now will save you purchasing another
in the future.

http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Peripherals/Network+Products/Wireless/Adapter+-+USB/Tp-Link+Wireless+N+300Mbps+Wireless+USB+Adapter+?productId=34094

So 28 for the router and 17 for the adaptor ............... not a bad
price to be honest

And if you decide to just opt for buying a wireless adapter and keeping your
current router you have just bought, then here's a nice cheap adapter thats
more than good enough
