The POW camp at Woodford bridge Rd, Redbridge. Occupied by Italians and Germans.Italians would share their red cross parcels with local residents, Oranges,Raisins, told by my Mother and Grandmother.
In 1969 I started first year at Beal Grammar School for boys, same site. And the for forms of the first year students had the old prisoners huts as classrooms. There was still a redundent wood stove in the rooms but the heating was from overhead gas fired heaters. There was a groundsmans hut, which was also a prisoners hut and we went in there once and found graffitti on the walls from the prisoners.I believe the huts have since disappeared. I have found a picture of one of the huts seen here.
