The wife wants us to go vacation in Thailand.
Perhaps.

Got me thinking of how close we would be to where
I was a long time ago. Until June 1972 the
Royal Thai Air Base Nam Phong, had been just a
patch of concrete in the middle of a jungle.
As Bob Hope later described it, it had all the
ambiance of a vacant weed filled lot.
He learned that a '6 holler', was not a golf course!

Anyway, here is a read from old days.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Thai_Air_Base_Nam_Phong
and the unit memory
http://www.namphong.com/ (Welcome to the Rose Garden!!)
and another
https://marines.togetherweserved.com/usmc/servlet/tws.webapp.WebApp?cmd=PublicUnitProfile&type=Unit&ID=2045

But when I went to google Maps and put in to find
Nam Phong Airport, they went to a different place.
https://www.google.com/maps/place/Khon+Kaen+Airport/@16.6528606,102.7889841,82551m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m7!3m6!1s0x312261cae551ec63:0xccdfb8982cf231df!8m2!3d16.4649515!4d102.7870624!9m1!1b1?hl=en

They say it is now a regular airport called Khon Kaen.
That is not the same place. The old one we used is
still (again!) quite vacant, about 15 miles northeast of
the new / busy one.
It would take over an hour to do it by car/taxi.
You can see them both on Google Maps, satelite view.
Whatever,,, an on topic of Vietnam post!

Nam Phong today is a Royal Thai Air Force bombing range. Nevertheless, the
World Aeronautical database states that the runway is still in use:
http://worldaerodata.com/wad.cgi?id=TH99549

There is no longer an ICAO location indicator for the airfield.

Just across the North China Sea and there you are, again.

Yeah, the impact area is about 1 mile west of the runway.
The runway concrete does not look like it has been hit.
The dozen or so buildings there now, look intact.

Actually, it is now appearing that if you ask Google Maps for

MCAB The Rose Garden, Nam Phong Thailand

it will take you to it.
It's about 7 miles East of Highway #2.
