FS: Civil War banknotes

Background: During the Civil War coins were hoarded from
circulation forcing many banks and merchants to issue their
own scrip notes, in the south some banks issued notes payable
in Confederate Treasury notes. Most everyone has heard of
Confederate money but these merchant notes issued during the
war are not as well known and I believe are underpriced.

I have for sale:

1. Connecticut - 5 cents. Charter Oak Bank, Hartford.
Civil War merchant scrip. Large 5 overprint in center of
note. Black and white, blank on the back. Signed and dated
Oct. 1st, 1862. In Fine circulated condition $10.

2. Georgia - $1 Bank of Augusta. Vignette to the left is
a woman wearing a Roman style helmet, central vignette is a
woman sitting down holding a cornucopia filled with fruit.
Printed on the back of a sheet of other denomination Bank of
Augusta notes dated Jan 1, 1863. this was often done during
the war in the south due to paper shortages. Unsigned and
uncirculated. $15.

3. New York - 25 cents. James C. Knox of Knox Corners,
Oneida Co., N.Y. Civil War merchant scrip. Large eagle
in center, 25 cents in green ovals on either side of eagle.
Dated Dec. 1st, 1862. Unsigned and uncirculated $12.

4. Same as above but a 50 cent note. $12.

5. New York - 5 cents. Lyman Ayrault, Commercial Broker,
Nunda Station. Civil War merchant scrip, man at left setting
printing type with a mallet. Orange 5 overprints twice on
note, black and white, blank on the back. Signed and dated
Nov. 20, 1862. In Fine circulated condition $10.

6. New York - 25 cents. Lyman Ayrault, Commercial Broker,
Nunda Station. Civil War merchant scrip. Two women carry
wheat at the left, orange 25 overprints twice on note, black
and white, blank on the back. Signed and dated Nov. 20, 1862.
In Fine circulated condition $10.

7. North Carolina - $3 State of North Carolina, Raleigh.
Two women are dressed in Roman toga clothing and in front
of a column from a roman building (scenes from ancient
Greece and Rome are common on notes from this era). Large
THREE at each end of note. Black and white, blank on the
back. Signed and dated 1st Jan. 1863. A popular odd
denomination note. Uncirculated $26.
