worth. No I never have been to that part of east Africa (has Rambler),
but the Democrats here in the states are not 100% happy with Obama's
edging out Hillary Clinton, and essentially over-taking the other
Democratic candidates even earlier. I am not predicting any such
REVOLT will last into November, but several liberal voices has
grumbled. I am not going to trot out the litany of criticisms of
Hillary, while she was still running. Obviously, to consistent
liberals on the left leaning wing of the Democratic spectrum have
squirmed as they realize those items that Obama is more moderate or
even CENTRIST on.
Jesse Jackson has wished Obama was more intensely liberal on the
political side of his agenda. Instead Obama goes on a brief world
tour and sounds even more centrist, even less liberal.
Ralph Nader is another grumbler. Some of the Naderites seem extremely
uncomfortable with Obama's middle American values, his patriotism, his
almost evangelistic style, grumbling he is too moderate. Are these
left-liberals about to bolt the party? Highly unlikely (my view). But
doesnt Obama need to work to win them back?
No, he is disappointing them, but only in part. In turning his back
(temporarily) on the big city states, the giant metro bases of
Democratic electoral strength, Obama is now reaching out to the red
states, more rural and small-town, in fact many were seen as
traditionally in the Republican column.
In his own revenge of sorts, McCain has been going into the industrial
heartland, sounding themes of a populist nature, criticizing Bushes
errors, calling for more reuglatory oversight, more trasparency in the
financial world, more integrity by the fat-cats.
McCain seems to have mollified his own base, at least the conservative
Christians who have been leery of McCains more open-minded views on
social issues. Evangelicals for several years have been slightly
suspicious of McCain, who was seen as a bit too liberal, a bit too
open-minded or moderate.
McCain has recently reassured the evangelicals. that he is a Christian
after all. that he is pro-life, after all.
The Palin phenomenon is unique. Following in Hillary's footsteps,
Palin may well be (issues-wise) a light-weight in the heavy-duty
policy sphere. But image-wise, her selection seems almost inspired.
She took on the big boys in Alaska, the oil industry big shots. She
stood up to the entrenched male-dominated "clubbish" Republican
insider network in Alaska.
AND SHE WON. Without the policy depth of Hillary (or Nancy Pelosi),
Sarah Palin comes on the scene like a breath of fresh air.
And for McCain, a godsend (no pun intended) ..... the evangelical wing
of the Republican Party loves her. She seems to have a teflon-quality
that they used to attribute to Ronald Reagan (or how bout Barack
Obama).
The public forgives her scandals and her political naivete. Because
she is so damn "like-able." (What's that mean?)
She's a natural.
Whether this celebrity aspect can be translated into a political
payoff (or how long it will even last) who can say.
After all, Dan Quayle had similar advantages (and similar
naivete) .... and over time he became a target of the lampooners (as
happens to so many public figures, almost universally).

Which does not indicate that they are either true or have any
relevence. A search for McCain + Lies also give 17,200,000 hits. A
search for Ramber + lies gives 300,000 hits.

What's that got to do with it? Is an office worker or his family
members prohibited from owning cattle or goats in Kenya? I work in an
office and until my dad retired from farming a few years back I
suppose I could've mustered a few cattle for a dowry...

So, you have deep personal knowledge of Obama's father's life from
birth to age 18? I'm an office worker. I also grew up on a farm and
herded cattle in my younger days. Does this mean that if someone said
that I had herded cattle that they are lying? If Obama's father
herded goats when he was 14, does that fact evaporate when he changes
jobs? Making crap up about whether or not Obama's father was, or
wasn't a goatherder when he was 12, or 16, or 18, or 20 is completely
and utterly irrelevent to whether Obama himself is qualified to be
president. Get real.

I'd prefer to recommend people go to sites like www.politifact.com,
www.factcheck.org, and www.snopes.com and then make up their own minds
based on the facts on which candidate they support. But I couldn't
let the BS about Obama's father working in an office in his late teens
therefore proving that he never in his life herded goats - with the
apparent extension that therefore Obama lied about whether his father
ever herded goats, and so therefore Obama is unqualified to be
President, stand because it's frankly such a idiotic argument to
make. If Obama isn't fit to be president, it certainly isn't because

You know what I mean. Working in an office at 16 doesn't preclude his
having herded goats at 15, 14, 13, 12, or 8 years of age. Don't be

And the only proof you've provided that he lied about his father
herding goats is that he was working at an office when he was 16,
which as noted does not preclude his ever having herded goats.
Personally I think it''d be interesting to hook both candidates to a

like a duck. No matter what smear you threw at Reagan (Obama the same)
it doesn't stick to him.
The celebrity movie star enigma of Reagan is deja vu all over again
with Obama. He has that evanglical style, that stage presence that
his opponents label celebrity (move star) like Reagan a great
communicator (not necessarily a compliment).
At least McCain has a grouchy side to him (a real person), but he is a
survivor. Talk about overcoming extreme situations as a POW, don't
call him a victim. Did it scar him? All trauma survivors are
scarred. But scars heal.
The liberal Naderites are even questioning whether Obama is a real
liberal. Apparently, to some of the extreme left Naderites, yoiu gotta
be an atheist to be a REAL liberal, like them. Obama has an almost
evangelical style to his rhetorical charisma. I do not know if
Christians are a current majority. But in American history they are
persistent. They dominate our frontier era, they dominate the
abolition period, they were pervasive in the colonial and

On the contrary I paid of my mortgage loan in 20 years (rather than the
30 year term.) I took advantage of the run up of inflation even if in
the 70's when we had a 100% inflation on those 10 years and my income
only went up 50%. And my pension fund is solid and my cash savings are
are mostly in bonds and some preferreds. My worst investments were in GM
and Ford commercial paper. However they are years from coming due. And
at my age they will just be part of trust for my grandsons who will have
to hold them for many years before they come due.
I lived through the 30's depression I suspect my daughter will weather
this one.

With the stock market collapse, your pension is not as secure as you
might think. At the moment to Dow in down 455 - and falling - to 9500.
Unless you've got Treasuries, you're on a shinking ship. Preferreds can
suspend dividents, too.
When Ford and GM go bankrupt your commercial paper won't be worth spit.
Both are rated BBB. The last time I checked in the Times, GM of 2011 was
bid at about 64.

I was watching CNN one afternoon last week. The commentator, Rick
something I believe, was going to show a clip of interviews of several
black voters who had said they were not voting for Obama. The
comentator, by his questioning tone,
seemed very surprised at this. Strange he would think that just
