I've read the paper, and it's very interesting.

This is an excellent presentation. Wright reports some of his findings
to be presented more fully in a book in progress. IMO Gavin Wright is
THE most respected economic historian of the southern region. The sound
is imperfect, but you can understand.

His thesis: the civil rights revolution in the South produced real
economic progress for black people without hurting anybody else.

I emphasize this, because there is ISTM a strong "national"
wish to believe that "the South never changes".
