Although many historians have criticized the largest battle before the end of
the Korean War as pointless, American determination and strength proved that a
well-armed and supported force can prevent a vastly superior sized aggressor
from achieving victory. Out-numbered two-to-one, American forces inflicted seven
times as many casualties on Chinese forces. After Allied withdrawal at the end
of hostilities the Chinese Communists gained nothing more than a desolate hill
