All,

American Geophysical Union, a nonprofit scientific society, has a
commercial version of WAIS, obtained from Wais, Inc. in early 1995. It
is Version 2.0 and is running on Solaris 2.4. The company has been
resold several times since then, and the most recent purchaser we could
locate no longer supports WAIS in any form.

We have been ordered to move this application to a new server before
2000. (Yes, management is having a belated and probably unfounded Y2K
panic, but the move needs to be made for other reasons.) However, the
license is keyed to the server hardware and there is no obvious way to
transfer it. There is a program to generate a license key from a code
obtained from the seller. Of course no one with any knowledge of this
is still employed here.

Does anyone have any ideas how we might be able to transfer this
license?

We would be glad to buy a new license if that were possible.

Would any of the current Wais versions (WAISgate is required) import
this database more or less directly?

Thanks in advance for your help.
