I'm an Australian citizen and am looking to obtain a J1 visa but I
understand that there's a 2 year residency limit put on some visas.
I've had a look at the Exchange Visitors Skills list and Australia is
not on the list. Does that mean that Australians who apply for J1 are
not subject the the 2 year residency clause.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
It means that Australians who apply for J-1 status are not
subject to the 2 year home residence requirement. However,
there are two other grounds for becoming subject to the
requirement: U.S. or home government funding of the J-1
program, and graduate medical education. See
http://travel.state.gov/waiver_instructions.html.
If you want to be sure that you will not become subject, you
have to check these two possibilities as well.
