First, it seems that Natalie Vedder is being replaced as the director of the
NSC. This makes me (MDUdall) sad as she has always been my favorite director
and always took the time to talk to me and answer all of my questions at the
AILA conferences. According the the AILA report, Mr. Terry Way will be the
acting director until a permanent selection for the new director is made at INS
HQ. It will probably be several months until the position is filled.
Statement from Ms. Vedder: I take this opportunity to say thank you to AILA in
general, and specifically to the several attorneys who have served as liaisons
with NSC during my tenure. Your willingness to partner with us so that we meet
the needs of our varying customers is appreciated and fruitful. Your
willingness to serve as a conduit of questions and concerns about the NSC
processing has been VERY fruitful for us and I thank you for the work it has
taken on your part. We are aware of the service you provide to us and to
members, and that it is very time consuming. I will miss the contact, problem
solving, and professional frienship. Thank you. Natalie Vedder.
Me again (MDUdall). I'm really sorry to see her go as in my opinion she's a
class act and has always been the most approachable of the 4 directors.
Question from report: Can you provide us with an overall case adjudication
update regarding the cases listed below? We know what the monthly processing
time report says, but as you have said, these reports paint an impressionist
image.
Answer: The processing time report is the best view of the state of things that
can be provided. Times vary day to day, so any other information is just a
different "point in time" picture. The new report will be issued 2/7/00.

Of course, the AILA/NSC liaison report is very long and has many questions and
answers, and I've only posted this small fraction of this report.
