First, the post in this newsgroup was sooooooo inviting.
Second, and more to the point, yeooowwwwww!!!!!!! With almost 4 days
remaining as of this post, and the entire package stands at almost
$2500. Cough, cough. I didn't realize the Neo was still so valuable,
but this price is based on the bids, not some minimum or reserve, so I
consider the price legit. And based on this, man it's going to be a
while before I get any NG in my collection.

Yeah, while I'm typically one to push for the original hardware and
carts, this is a case where I'm saying "Thank God for the Wii Virtual
Console!"
NeoGeo seems pretty cool, but there's just no way I can part with that
kinda scratch to invest in it. More power to those who can, though!
At least they can play Double Dragon.

A pretty good way to gauge fair prices for Neo stuff is to check out what
the first-party sales are like over on neo-geo.com:
I'd link directly to some systems or sticks, except they don't have any in
stock as of this post. A modified AES console can go for $1200 with the
right accessories and all the packaging.
If you're really interested in getting into the Neo side of the hobby, you
can do what I did and trade for hardware rather than buying it outright. I
had redundant copies of some stuipdly rare Saturn and PC-Engine games that
I ended up trading for my AES gear, and I bought my MVS stuff from some
gamers who were getting out of the hobby (by way of marriage or
unemployment, or in one case a combination of the two.) Trading is always
cheaper than buying in the long run.
-KKC, doing fun things with Neo emulators, which are cheaper still. :)

Keep in mind that all of these are in the boxes/mint. You CAN build a
decent Neo Geo collection in your price range. I bought a couple of
Japanese Neo Geo AES systems and a CD system. I got the two AES
systems modded (BIOS2 chip, LED poweron..), and purchased an MVS to
AES converter and built QUITE a collection this way. Of course, the
MVS aren't "worth" as much, and many of the CD's don't have cases and
are the japanese imports (which play fine on my CD system).. It wasn't
unusual to pick up "lots" of like five MVS fighters (Mutation nation,
Burning Fight, etc..) for like $60 - $70..

I got my AES at a used game store in Connecticut in '98 for $100,
loose, complete with memory card and two sticks, in good conditions.
The guy also had a bunch of used carts for $30/$40 apiece, older stuff
such as Fatal Fury 2, Samurai Showdown, Spinmaster, etc.
It's my Neo Geo CDZ that cost me an arm an a leg in '95 ;-).
Hey JT, wanna meet at The Game Trader one of these days? My schedule
is more flexible this semester. Evenings during the week are fine. I
haven't been up there since October or so.
Ciao,
Simon
