My long time Toshiba vcr recently had some electrical problems and I had
to scrap it. I must say it ran strong for over 7 years and I only had
one problem with it a couple of years ago when it wouldn't eject my
tape. I was in the market for a new one and was just wondering what
people's ideas or opinions were to the best brand to get as a
replacement. Mind you I do a lt of recording and I need something very
durable. Hitachi, JVC, Samsung??

Thanks for your input!! Steve

It depends on the amount of money you want to spend. I have a cheapo
sanyo hifi that has worked very well.

Agreed. Pricey for the average Joe, but it will outlast anything else on the
consumer market and provides unmatched quality.

I've had my Sharp vcr for around five years now. Great picture, never
been worked on, still on the job. Tough, reliable machines IMHO.

Take care...

I've had no problems with my Emerson 4 head Hi Fi VCRs. I also have a
Panasonic which I call my "Panasonic Panzer" because when it rewinds it
sounds like a German tank coming down a street!!!

The Panasonic VCR I got at the first of the year was bought at my local
Wally World (Wal-Mart) for around $150. last time I went there they were
still there.

My old toshiba 6 head also bit the dust recently. Toshiba now only
makes a 4 head so I went looking around and found a last years 6 head
realy cheap. If I were you , I'd try small local chains and close out
stores and try to get one of those 6 head ones. Be quick they won't
last long. If you don't want to go with toshiba then I'd get the
best sony. My brother bought the big one. It is like 17 or 18 inches
wide. It is a great machine. the picture quality actualy rivals the
toshiba 6 head. The smaller compact sony vcr's are crap now. Last years
N-50 was a good machine. The new N-51 is a piece of crap. Not only
does it not play worth spit, but the tape counter is "only" available
"on-screen". That is a pain if you are useing it as a source machine
and want to edit at a specific time interval. mes

Same with my Hitachi. What a piece of junk. Second Audio program is
always on and it can only record in SP mode. This happened only 6
months after I bought it. Never again.
