Very Frustrated with TiVo

Here's the short version of the long story...

I'm on my second Phillips unit that I bought on clearance at Sam's
Club. When I got the unit, I found it vers clunky and slov for a
couple days and then it seemed to perform better after that. Now, I'm
back to the unit hanging on menus. I hit the "TiVo" button and go
down to "Pick Programs to Record" and press select. Then the unit
does nothing and stops responding to commands from the remote. It's
not the remote because it continues to control the TV set.

I've heard some people suggest that this is normal. The TiVo has to
process information that is downloaded over the phone and this takes
time. If this poor performance is NORMAL, then it's going back to the
store. BTW, the first unit did the same thing but it would also reset
itself when I tried to use it when it was running slowly. This unit
did the same thing today.

Anyone have any similar experiences?

Under 1.3 there were times that Tivo would become very unresponsive, usually
during the daily call or immediately after while indexing. 2.0.1 fixes
almost all these "problems" and is much quicker over all.

Thanks for the reply Andy. This actually occurred about 12 hours
after a successful call. I really don't want to take this thing back
to the store but I'm really not satisfied with the performance. Maybe
if I call, they can put me on a priority for 2.0.1 and I'll see if the
performance is any better before I take it back.

Chuck,
Don't, I repeat DON'T call Tivo customer support and ask for 2.0.1! If you
want the 2.0.1 early release candidate register here
http://www.3wdesigns.net/tivo_registration/ , I believe you're already
registered on the AVS forum ;)

Well unfortunately I spoke to customer care before seeing this
message. Thing is, I've had 2 units both of which have not worked to
my satisfaction. They put me on a priority list for the upgrade. I'm
not sure if it was that call or your web form that got me upgraded the
next day but I'm there now (2.0.1).

There was the issue of 20 days left on the 30 day store warranty that
prompted me to make the call. That along with the fact that the unit
wasn't functioning properly.

So far (since the update) I haven't had ANY trouble. I will keep you
posted on any further developments but I tried to bog down the system
by doing things with it when I knew it was busy and it worked without
any problems whatsoever. I'll let you know if this is still the case
in a few days.
