But a far better option would be to purchase a Radio Shack 15-1994
remote. With the RS remote (currently $29.99) you can build a VERY
simple cable to connect the parallel port from your PC to your remote
and have ultimate control over the remote. For starter information (I
only learned of this about 3 weeks ago myself so I'm not the expert) go
to <http://www.hifi-remote.com/ofa/> and check out the box about the RS
15-1994 remote being programmable.
It should be noted that there are other UEIC remotes (like the ReplayTV
remote that came with your system) that can be programmed in the same
fashion but the RS 15-1994 (billed as a 6-in-1 although it becomes a
7-in-1 if you build the cable and program it) seems to give you the most
bang for your buck.
Here are some buttons I now have that were not standard on the ReplayTV
remote:
Discrete On (when I hit power it always turns the Replay on,
never off)
Discrete Off (when I hit this key [Sleep on my RS, Input on my
ReplayTV remote] it always turns the Replay off,
never on)
3-Minute Skip (this key instantly enters the combination 3+quickskip
thus jumping ahead 3 minutes for the standard
commercial break)
1-Minute Replay (this key instantly enters the combination
1+instantreplay thus jumping back 1 minute)
Of course, it is possible to program a key for a 2-minute skip (used for
older shows that left less time for commercials) or a 5-minute skip (for
watching shows on channels like MTV).
