I downloaded ReplayTVPhotoTransfer_1.1.exe and ran it. My ReplayTV
appeared in Windows Explorer (but not on the network places) and I am
able to view photos on the television. A very nice thing.

I did the same for my wife's. With no messages given, the program
seemed to install OK. However the ReplayTV does not show up in Windows
Explorer. It does show up in the network places. I cannot move photos
to it.

The differences are that my setup is RTV 5040 and WinXP. My wife's
setup is RTV 5580 and Windows 7. I have tried disabling the windows
firewall, but to now avail.

Any suggestions?

Was her Replay set up with a photo partition?

In Win 7 network discovery and sharing should be turned on. Can you see
everything in DVArchive?

The network settings are as you suggest. I don't know anything about
DVArchive. However, I wonder if the physical setup of the networks on
the two computers might be the problem. On my computer, on which both
photo-sharing and WiRNS work is as follows: the internet comes via a
FIOS modem/router. That router is input to another router, which is
connected to both the replay and the computer. On my wife's computer,
the replay is directly pugged into the FIOS router and the computer is
linked wirelessly to the FIOS router. Should that make a difference?
Networking is an area in which I am particularly ignorant!

Thanks.

Do you mean ROUTER or SWITCH. You would never plug 2 routers together.
If you need more ports, you add a switch to your router.

Wired or wireless makes no difference on the same subnet. Can the
computers see each other??? If you have 2 routers plugged together, One
would act as a gateway and you could wind up with 2 subnets. The 2
different subnets would not see each other.

If you have more than 1 replay, not having/using DVArchive is like
driving a car with only 3 tires installed.

I guess that my nomenclature may be inaccurate, since networks are not
my forte. What I have from Verizon has as an input the cable from FIOS.
It has a number of LAN outputs as well as wireless. On my setup, a
router is connected to one of the LAN outputs. The output of the router
goes to both the computer and the ReplayTV. On my wife's setup the
ReplyTV is connected to the FIOS device and the computer is connected
wirelessly. My setup allows the computer to talk to the Replay; my
wife's does not. Would inserting a router between the FIOS device and
the computer and Replay, such as I have on my setup, allow what I want
to work?

Thanks.

I have connected 2 routers together for a few years now. It was to make
internet access available to guests without making it easy for them to
access my computers.

Jerry - what is happening (I think) is that your wife's computer
is connecting wirelessly to the FiOS device, which I assume is a
cable modem with a wireless router. This creates a situation (I
surmise) in which your computer (which is wired to your own
router) is on a different network than the wireless network to
which your wife's computer is connected.

You didn't mention whether or not your router is also wireless,
but I assume not.

Check the gateway addresses the two Replays and that you and your
wife's computer are using and let us know those 4 numbers.

There is no router, only the FIOS modem/router. The replay is connected
directly to the modem. Do I need a router which has the modem output as
input, and then has the computer and the replay connected as outputs
(the computer wirelessly and the rtv with a lan cable)?

Now I _am_ confused.

Now you write: "there is no router".

Before, you wrote the following: "the internet comes via a FIOS
modem/router. That router is input to another router, which is
connected to both the replay and the computer."

Please explain your setup again, and clearly tell us which of the
following network devices you are using:

FiOS modem/router (?wireless)
Stand-alone router
Switch
Hub

Also, please give the gateway addresses on your two Replays and
two computers.

It is hard for me to analyze the problem without having a clear
understanding of how you have set up your network.

There are two completely different setups.

Mine is a FIOS modem connected to a router. The computer and rtv is
connnected with cables to the router. It works very well. The numbers
are: IP 192.168.2.3, Netmask 256.256.256.0, Gateway 192.168.2.1, DNS1
same as gateway.

My wife's setup (completely separate from mine) has a FIOS modem to
which the computer is connected wirelessly and the rtv is plugged into
the FIOS modem with a cable. The replay connects to the replay server
via fios, but is not seen by the computer. The numbers are: IP
192.168.1.3, Netmask 256.256.256.0, Gateway 192.168.1.1, DNS1 same as
gateway.

I don't know how to find out the gateway address for the computers.

Does this help?

Why does your wife have a Fios modem?? You are paying for 2
installs???. You only need 1 modem/router and every device in the house
would connect to it whether wired or wireless.
