The licensing repository is a file named tokens.dat that stores the activation information for Windows 10. If this file is missing, corrupt, or not upgraded properly, you may see one of the following messages when you try to activate Windows 10:

Windows canât activate right now. Try activating again later. If that doesnât work, contact support. Error code: 0xC004F012.
The Software Licensing Service reported that the call has failed because the value for the input key was not found.

To fix this error, you need to rebuild the tokens.dat file using some commands and tools. Here are the steps you need to follow:

Step 1: Run System File Checker
This error code can also be resolved by repairing the damaged system files. To do this, you need to run the System File Checker (SFC) tool that scans and restores the integrity of system files. Here is how to run SFC:

Right-click on the Start button and select Command Prompt (Admin).
Type sfc /scannow and press Enter.
Wait for the scan to complete and fix any errors it finds.
Restart your computer and try to activate Windows 10 again.

Step 2: Use the DISM tool
If the SFC scan does not fix the error, you may need to use another tool called Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM). This tool can repair the Windows image and restore its health. Here is how to use DISM:

Open Command Prompt (Admin) as in Step 1.
Type DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth and press Enter.
Wait for the command to finish and close the Command Prompt.
Restart your computer and try to activate Windows 10 again.

Step 3: Rebuild Activation Tokens.dat
If the above methods fail to optimize Windows system files, you need to rebuild the activation tokens.dat file manually. Here is how to do it:

Open File Explorer and navigate to C:\Windows\System32\SPP\Store\2.0. If Windows is installed on a different drive, replace C: with the appropriate drive letter.
In the 2.0 folder, find the tokens.dat file and rename it to tokens.old.
Close File Explorer and open Command Prompt (Admin) as in Step 1.
Type net start sppsvc and press Enter.
Type cscript.exe slmgr.vbs /rilc and press Enter.
Wait for the commands to be executed and restart your computer twice.
Go to Settings > Activation and run the Activation Troubleshooter.

Step 4: Activate using command prompt
If the problem is with the KMS host not being located in the DNS, you may need to change the product key using the command prompt. Here is how to do it:

Close all open tabs and programs.
Open Command Prompt (Admin) as in Step 1.
Type slmgr.vbs /ipk and press Enter. Replace with your actual product key that you can find on a sticker or in an email confirmation.
Type slmgr.vbs /ato and press Enter. This will activate Windows 10
