I think what happened is he orders some LDs but he didn't understand the
difference between "ground" and "overnight" so when his cut out of
Fantasia for $7 didn't show up on time he panicked.

I dunno, I go to Digitainment all the time and never have a problem. I'd
love to see what "earth shattering" stuff he has to say too. I sent him my
request LAST WEEK.

It might have something to do with the low-priced discs they've been
selling. Apparently, many of them were retailer returns to Image and
Pioneer that were re-sealed and sold to Digitainment in box lots. However,
I know that Digitainment has cheerfully refunded money to anyone who finds
these discs defective, so this news item probably does not warrant further
discussion.

Perhaps I can clear up this discussion once and for all. The
discounted Pioneer laser discs that are on the shelfs are not vendor
returns. They are brand new punch-outs (that means we cannot return them to
Pioneer). We get at at a dscounted price, which means we can offer them at
a discounted price. The opened Image sale discs that we carry are indeed
discs that were reported defective to Image. It is often the case that these
reported defective discs are not defective. So with that thought, we
purchased them from Image at a greatly discounted price and put them out for
sale. However, we have come across entire batches of titles that indeed were
defective (Criterion's CAV edition of Bram Stoker's Dracula for example). We
will in any and all circumstances accept any returns of any discs that were
purchased from us, no matter what discs they are.

Hi all,
It's true that Digitainment's been selling lower priced LDs
lately. I just picked up a used Criterion Munchausen for $18. Fantasia
SEALED and punched for $7. I guess some people see this as shady, which is
what happens when you don't have all the facts. I was there this afternoon
and they've got tons of sealed and used LDs. Monsterous savings. I think
the CAV Akira (used, slotted) was $18. I guess the original poster had no
idea what was going on. If anyone's in the area it would be worthwhile to
drop by and see what they have. I picked up a Schoolhouse Rock LD for $10,
The Munchausen for $18, Citizen Kane (Criterion) for $16. In this time
where DVDs are $20 I welcome used LDs :). I think the days of dropping
$125 on CAV box sets are over for me.

A LOT of those LDs were returned when customers found that they were
defective. The combination of defective discs along with "no cash refunds"
signs hung up all over the store made some of us a little queasy.

Digitainment has since offered to refund or exchange any defective sale
discs that were purchased, which is good enough news for me. They went so
far as to email me after I posted to this newsgroup, which I consider
exemplary customer service. Turns out, as far as I can tell, that these
laserdiscs are mostly customer returns that have languished in the Image
warehouse for eons. Image probably popped each of them in a player and
said, "Huh -- looks fine to me, maybe we can sell them?" Then they were
shipped over to Digitainment to be sold.

I bought SHE'S GOTTA HAVE IT, THE WORLD'S GREATEST ANIMATION, and CHILDREN
OF PARADISE. Of those, SHE'S GOTTA HAVE IT and ANIMATION did not play
properly on my old player. I've since purchased a new machine, which spins
SHE'S GOTTA HAVE IT, but still can't make it through every side of
ANIMATION. (I haven't checked CHILDREN OF PARADISE.) All in all, I decided
that I got pretty good value for my money.

When I went back to the store, I took a deep breath and bought SWING TIME,
THE MAGNIFICENT AMBERSONS, and that Zbigniew Rybczynski (sp?) collection.
SWING TIME and Zbigniew are flawless, and what I've seen of AMBERSONS
looks fine. My recommendation is to take full advantage of these prices,
but watch your discs right away in case they have problems. And be aware,
as always, that older LD players may be out of alignment and will thus
have trouble with some CAV discs -- so if your LD player is many years
old, this is a riskier proposition.

As a footnote, I like Digitainment as a store, and I like their people.
(They even gave me 52 free rentals when I bought my new LD player.) I have
no reason to suggest that anyone should be anything less than completely
trusting unless you're buying one of those used discs at fabulous prices.

Digitainment is located in Whippany, New Jersey
on the east-bound side of Route 10 - just east
of Route 287. It's part of a strip mall which
contains Super Foodtown among others.

Digitainment has been operating for less than a year. Are you referring
to discs purchased wholesale as a retailer OR discs purchased as an
individual? Digitainment is a retail entity that has completely
different methods of operation than US Laser which was absorbed by
Image.

Please explain

Perhaps before you call me a liar in a public forum, you should call me
to explain your situation. I have been store manager here for a little
over six weeks. This might be a situation that the last manager would not
or could not resolve. However this store has only been in existance since
last October, therefore you could not have been promised a return
authorization for over a year. If you wish to discuss your situation,
please feel free to call me as I will do whatever I can resolve it to
your satisfaction. If is U.S. Laser that you have a problem with, you
should contact them, as they are a separate entity.

I'm another fan of Digitainment. Took advantage of their first Criterion
blow-out around Memorial Day, picking up 20 -some high end packages,
including Munchasen, CAV Lion King, CAV Taxi Driver, etc. and had problems
withonly one, Bram Stoker's Dracula. I was offered the opportunity to
return it, but since the flaw occurred at the very end of a side, I
decided it was worth keeping at $15.

Their rental selection is another reason to patranize the store if you
live near by. They have a big selection and rent box sets like Definitive
Star Wars and Signature ET. They're worth a look.

I'm a fan too...

David Goodman who is the creator of the Digitaimnet concept would have
never done (or allowed) anything shady. I've never had problems in
dealing with any of the LD businesses he has created. I bought from him
in Leonia, then the Laser Video Store in Verona (where the "blowout
sale" first took roots) His companies have ALWAYS stood behind thier
product. I would not have patronized the various stores over the past
DECADE if it weren't for the exemplary service.

All this blather about Digitainment really pisses me off. The people
there are genuinely helpful and cheerful. They have great prices and a
good selection. If you buy a disc and it is defective they will replace
it. It's a damned good store

What's the problem?!?!?!?!
