I've been mail ordering LDs from them since 1990 and have yet to have any
problem of any kind. I recently received the Sleepy Hollow LD from them. I
did cancel some other LDs I had on order but it wasn't Ken Crane's fault
that the discs weren't ever manufactured. Hopefully Bringing Out The Dead
will be available soon from them since some other stores apparently have
them according to this newsgroup. I generally do not pre-order, instead
waiting until they are announced as being in stock.

I'm sorry to hear that. Did you ever get the LD, or at least, credit for
another purchase? I hope that the fact that I'm pre-ordering (first disc won't
come out until Oct. 17) with an order expedite option will help to get me the
disc that I paid for. Thanks for your story. - Reinhart

I placed some orders with them a few
years ago for some LDs they had listed
that wound up being out of print. I
never received the titles, but it's hard
to really blame them. Their service on
my DVD orders has been uniformly
excellent. They are the only company I
choose to buy DVDs from on the internet.

Actually, the listed street date for BOTD is Oct 3, so some stores may have
it early. Regarding Kranes, I had to call regarding SLEEPY HOLLOW. The
first week, they said it hadn't been shipped because they were backlogged,
but it would ship the following day. A week later, with no LD delivered, I
called again and got the same excuse. This time, the rep went out and took
copies off the shelf and promised they'd ship the next day. And they did.
I'd suggest calling them when you hear the discs are out. Cranes is now
owned by Image, who wants nothing to do with laserdisc and it is certainly
not a high priority with the store.

They've always been reliable with my orders.

Since Image (like any other business) is interested in being
profitable, their attitude is eminently sensible. :)

If they are pre-orders, you should get them. Your best bet for lasers from
them is to use the www.dvdplanet.com site, which lists real-time inventory.

They don't charge you unless they ship you a disc. Unfortunately, with
back-ordered/delayed titles, that means that you have a potential charge
looming on your card unless you cancel the order. But, it's preferable to
charging, then giving the customer a "store credit" if it turns out to be
unavailable, eh?

One aside- I ordered Career Opportunities (mmm- Jennifer Connelly) from them
like a year and a half ago, and it was unavailable and OOP. Just got a
snail-mail from them the other day- they finally got it in and wanted to know
if I still wanted it. Nice service, I think.

Thanks for the tip. It'd be funny if I ended up getting both the RDI and a LA
in the same time frame... ('bout 1 day to go on the RDI, and my bid still
stands *fingers crossed*)

If you're talking about the RDI laserdisc player on Ebay, it's just a Pioneer
LD-700 with different logos. The complete RDI system is a separate computer,
headset, keyboard, cartridges, laserdiscs, overlays, power supply and
supplemental connectors. The laserdisc player is just a stock LD-700 with no
modifications other than the logos on front. When RDI folded, they had several
hundred LD-700 laserdisc players because Pioneer required a large minimum
order. As for the computer portion and other accessories, all of those were
hand assembled and so there are well less than 100 of them out there. A few
laserdisc shops in San Diego picked up the surplus Halcyon LD-700s and sold
them for several years. That's why they keep popping up on Ebay and at fleas.

I forgot to mention this, but I sent the payment via cashier's cheque. -
