I entered the laser disk user community about 4 months ago with the
above player. I'm pleased to report its the worst purchase i ever
made. Its a fully featured AC3, DVD,CD, Karoke,LD player with dolby
AC3 output.

At the same time as buying the player i bought 3 LD's

Intermittently it would hang, skip, stop, fail to start on all three.

When it starts there is a very unimpressive clunking noise from inside

I took it back to Sony. They had it for eight weeks and after I
complained they asked me for my disks. They told me my disks were
faulty (guess what Sony Music). However out of the kindness of their
hearts they had replaced a laser head. Since then i've been loaned a
couple of DVD's Guess what they skip, jump, dont start The operation
of the machine seems to vary depending on how it feels on that
particular day. Sometimes I can skip to the next track using the
remote and sometimes I cant. Whenever there are credits at the end of
a Laser Disk there is noise on the sound track.

It also stick occasionally on the odd CD.

The player is now out of warranty ( you only get three months in
Singapore) and they will be happy to look at it again for cash.

I know intermittent faults are hard to find but I dont care any more.
If I were big company like Sony I would have replaced it by now. Can
anyone give me Sonys e-mail address in Japan because i want to tell
them exactly what i think - basically their products are crud and
their customer service is worse than useless

Me I think its a heat problem. The thing is obviously badly designed
as it has no ventilation and gets very hot. "Thus it works for a while
and then starts to fail intermittently. I've tried moving away from
all the other equipment but its made no damn difference. When I
suggested they might have been testing it in their shiny Sony air con
lab with the top off rather than emulating a real home situation they
gave me one of those really patronising looks that said "what do you
know pleb we're the experts"f$ck off back under your stone"

Personally I understand where George Michael was coming from - I
wouldnt my contract owned by these idots either

I vowed not to by Sony again after I tried to use a TV with Multi
language support in a foreign country. Guess what multi language does
not mean we support the standard of the country with that language -
and BTW that also has an intermittent fault where it once a week
flashes green characters on the screen. I've learned to live with
that but the LD player is useless

Never again - they dont give a sh&t

Dear Karen

Thank you for your message. If i'd have been able to get any kind of
satisfaction from Sony Singapore i would have by now. I'm sick of Sony
using holding tactics to fob me off. If you dont think holding a
product for 8 weeks when the warranty period is 12 weeks sucks . If
you dont think that telling my disks are faulty but changing a part
anyway is curious, if you dont think that being able to play a video
CD in a $60 Goldstar Drive that wont play in a $700 Sony play sucks
then you ré probably working for the company you deserve

Its just taken me a whole weekend to watch the long Kiss Goodnight in
ten minute chunks because the damn player wont play for more than ten
minutes at a time

FIX MY PROBLEMS DONT FOB ME OFF. SONY IS A GLOBAL COMPANY I WANT
GLOBAL
SERVICE

What I want is:-
To speak to the regional manager for Sony Customer Service Asia
Since Sony have been unable to fix my player I want a new player and I
want
it now delivered to my house
An apology for the apalling service i have received from Sony

If I dont hear from Sony within 24 hours then I will assume that thIs
round
of negotiations is complete and move on to the next steps.

My next steps
are:-

To put an axe through the top of the Laser Disk play in front of the
Sony Singapore office and have a colleague take a number of photo. If
I can get press interest I will.
Within 24 hours post that photo on my web page and I will advertise
the page as widely as possible for as long As I am angry about this.
That will be a very long time.

Sue me - i'll be glad of the opportunity to put my case in front of
some publicity folks

Sony (IN MY OPINION) has gone to shit in the last 5 years.

Anyway, irregardless of the warranty period, if they did not properly fix it, it
still should be covered. If they had the thing for 60 days, that's 2/3 of the
warranty period, I would imaging you have another 90 from the day it was
returned for the same problem.
