Thomas Dolby's real name is Thomas Morgan. He started Morgan Audio
Labs and invented Morgan Surround Sound which is a single speaker
surround system in which the listener actually wears the speaker cabinet
on his head.

While your joke is more than appriciated, Dolby's last name is actually
Robertson.

Thomas Morgan Dolby Robertson wrote all of those great mid-80's hits, and
has nothing to do with Dolby sound.

By the way, if anyone has a copy of the first of the FOUR versions on the
"Golden Age of Wireless" album, the one with "Wreck of the Fairchild" on
it, I'd be willing to pay or trade for it.

I thought the Dolby brothers invented it...

But he invented toilet paper!

Thomas Dolby got his stage name from some of his friends, who called him
"Thomas Dolby" because he was always carrying a tape recorder with him.
Dolby Labs took some sort of legal action against him a long time ago,
but decided it was OK to use the name as long as it was always his
complete stage name.
The REAL "inventor of Dolby" is Ray Dolby. You gotta love anyone with an
ego big enough to put their name on their inventions. Just be glad his
name wasn't Finkelstein or something like that!

If that was a serious question, the answer is no - Ray Dolby did that.
Thomas Dolby invented Thomas Dolby.

Thomas Dolby's given name is Thomas Morgan Dolby Robertson. Dolby Labs
was unable to prevent him from using the name "Dolby" because you can't
prevent someone from using their given name on stage.

I'd say no, Ray Dolby (and associates) of Dolby Labs in England did.

Nice story, but Thomas has no "Dolby" in his given birth name. It is a
stage name, and he indeed has rights to use it.

In fact, Dolby labs sued Thomas Dolby (his real name) for using the Dolby
trademark. Thomas Dolby eventually prevailed and is legally allowed to
use his own name on his albums. I thought it was a frivilous lawsuit
and that nobody would be so stupid as to confuse the two. Apparently
I was wrong.

Thomas's given name has no Dolby in it. It is an adopted name.

No shit! I've been hoping that they will consolidate all the
different album versions on one overpriced "special edition" CD for
quite some time now...

People still think that Weird Al is related to Frankie Yankovic...
