I took a peek through them, and the rumors about True Lies and The Mask
being in there were true... I also saw some cool older stuff, like the
widescreen M*A*S*H, the CAV Raiders PS (very limited qty.), and the Jaws
PS (very limited qty.), the Poltergeist LBX boxed set! and on and on...
There were a lot of really great discs, so if you can make it down, I can
almost guarantee it'll be worth your while. Most of these discs will be
$19.88 or less. Probably $15.88 was the most common price point.
Anyway, hope to see you there!
I cannot stress this enough:

I never thought I'd want to live on the East Coast...
I called two of the Camelots in Seattle and they both have no idea on when
they are getting more cutouts, and they are both planning on getting out of
the LD market...

Take 198 East toward Laurel
Go about three miles
Turn south onto Rt. 1
Go about a mile
We're on the right

Hey Mark!
You forgot to mention the totally free movie popcorn! We went through
seven huge bags of the stuff in the first few hours.
Obviously, that's what people were really there for, right? :o)
What dealers get these discs. It seems that Camolot gets most of these
discs. Are they available to any dealer?
I would be happy to (and so would I) but myself and myself are already
working very hard here. Perhaps you should move back east?

I suppose any dealer is capable of getting cutouts, but I think it
involves a bidding system, and the higher the bid gets, the lower the
profit margins, so due to the risk involved, a lot of chains probably
don't buy them.
The Stand box $29.88
Twin Peaks box Vol 4--49.88 (tempting)
Sinatra miniseries--29.88
Marliene (sp?) Dietrich df--29.88
Churchill bio---29.88
Return of Spinal Tap--15.88 (sorta tempting...anybody have this?)
Speed Racer (2 episodes)--$15.88
American Dream (docu.)-12.88
Abba Gold import--29.88
some Beatles live import--29.88
Leprechaun (the first one)--15.88 (hah!)
Old Empire SB widescreen--29.88
Nothing In Common-- 12.88
Ape Man:hosted by Walter Cronkite--29.88
Even crap like Robot Wars and Puppet Master 3 is tagged at 12.88
now...like it was flying off the shelves at 5.88.
One of the employees told me that some guy had picked over the
shipment pretty badly. I guess it's better I don't know what I missed.
He had to take out a loan to buy a pile of discs, or so the employee
said. Another salesguy there said they do have a call list, so I got
on it...for whatever that's worth after the employees and friends go
thru 'em. :-(
He said there were some Jurassic Parks that I missed too. arrgh...
A few weeks ago I got Westworld widescreen and a Rollerball P&S for
12.88 apiece. Also Fantasia CLV for 12.88. Not bad.
Granted some of these prices are good, and many are not punched, but
it seems like cutouts were 5.88 for a while, then crept up to 12.88,
then 15.88. Are the days of decent stuff for 6 or 10 bucks over??? I
haven't seen any Robin Hood (Disney), True Lies or The Mask yet...what
are these going for?
I feel a follow-up from Jeff Becraft coming on... :-)

Here in the Dallas area in addition to Camelots, a local audio/video
dealer gets them in about as often as Camelot, and the Incredible
Universe has them also.
Several mail-order places get them too, such as Ken Crane, Sight
and Sound, Laser Craze, and Laser Exchange.

My local independent LD dealer used to have special cutout LD sales long
before Camelot moved into the neighborhood (we're talking six, seven years
ago), and I've moved away, but I'll bet he still has them. One of the
rules of the game was that employees and friends were *not* allowed to
skim the cream off the top of the cutout selection, nor were they allowed
to pick and choose when the rental overstock was put out for sale cheap.
(After the cutout sale had been on for a couple of hours, of course, all
of the discs were fair game for the employees.)
This resulted in some frustration among the employees, but since the
store owner was a great guy they managed to live with the policies. And
the great deals were put where they belong -- in the hands of customers.
I don't begrudge Camelot anything, and I'm glad they do the job they do
with LD cutouts ... but I hope they're not being patronized at the
expense of local dealers who supported the format for years and helped
build an informed and enthusiastic core audience. (It's unfortunate that
we live in an era where "local video dealer" usually means Blockbuster.)
Hell, I never bought a disc from Ken Crane's until I moved to an area
where we have *no* knowledgeable LD dealers.

"Build my gallows high, baby."
This discovery at Great Mall of the Bay Area is in keeping with the info I
mentioned last week. I understand that this location is getting sent any
"unsellable" cutouts from other stores on the west coast. They may arrive
there at stupidly low prices, so get over there and enjoy!

It evidently is kind of unpredictable; got the Criterion
Short Cuts in the cutout bin at a Camelot in Charlotte
(but no punch) about six weeks ago for 29.88. Same trip
and store, Criterion Shampoo (with punch) for 5.88 (and
they had several). Another Camelot in Charlotte (same day),
MCA/Universal Mummy films box set (no punch) 29.88, True Lies
(LBX, but they had the P&S too) THX 19.88. Spectrum (Camelot
for Yuppies) in Charlotte, same day, Fantasia CAV 29.88.
All in all, a good day :-)
