DISCLAMER:
This is a do-it-yourself and do-at-your-own-risk job! I take no
responsibilty if you damage your CDR unit!
If the Drawer/tray won't manually go back, then DON'T FORCE it back
into place! You may offset the gears!! The SERVICE MANUAL Does NOT
show the correct gear setup!! I know.. I had to fix that myself!!
Notes:
The NEW Consumer CDRs that I use for swapping won't go into rec. pause
mode/SETUP(the display says CHECK DISC). But I can still swap it with
a Pro CDR and record!!! I can't figure out why it does this.
Don't go swaping unfinalized Pro Discs. You can only FINALIZE a Pro
Disc on the PDR-05!!
ORIGINAL SWAP METHOD A:(WHILE POWER IS ON!)
1. LOAD IN CONSUMER CDR (must display NEW DISC)
2. REMOVE OUTER METAL CASING
3. UNPLUG MECHANISM CONTROLLER TERMINAL(see bellow to find this
terminal)
4. MANUALLY POWER DRAWER MOTOR TO OPEN use + or - 6 volts with 4 AAs
5. SWAP CONSUMER CDR WITH A PRO DISC (Preferably a Mitsui Gold CDR)
6. MANUALLY PUSH DRAWER ALL THE WAY BACK IN(push in fast or use + or -
6 volts to reverse the drawer closed)
7. BEGIN RECORDING PAUSE MODE SETUP!!
8. FINALIZE When done recording! Don't finish the CDR later, Finalize
it right away!!
9. RECONNECT LOADING MECHANISM CONTROLLER TERMINAL.
10. EJECT AND PLAY IN ANY CD PLAYER!! ( As long as you FINALIZED the
Pro Disc!)
11. PAT YOURSELF ON YOUR BACK.. MISSION COMPLETED!!
12. REPEAT STEPS 1-10 TO BURN MORE PRO DISCS!
Where's the loading mechanism terminal connector?
This connector is on the PCB board on the far lower right.(SERVO UCOM
BOARD)
On the left side of the big ribbon cable, look for:
CN202
5.GND
4.GND
3.LOAD
2.XOPEN
1.XCLMP
This is the connector I'm talking about!
Wire Config:
Black-Ground
Grey-Motor - power
White-Motor + power
Blue-Lever Switch pin 1
Purple- Lever Switch pin 2
All you need to do is power the motor. The Grey and white wires are to
be connected to a + 6 or -6 volts from 4 AA Batteries. The + or - 6
Volts reverses the drawer to open or close! You'll have to figure it
out wich way it is.
So, once the DRAWER is Opened swap the consumer CDR with any Pro CDR
disc you want!!!.
This is the only method I know how to burn and Finalize onto Mitsui
Gold CDR discs.
If anyone finds or makes a mod chip to defeat the "Consumer TOC
CHECK",and if anyone can defeat the SCMS copy protection please let me
know ASAP !!
The Service Manual for the PDR is about 45 bucks!
This Manual is applicable to the following models and types:
KU PDR-99 & PDR-05 AC120v
MEB PDR-05 AC220-230v
Call 1-800-421-1606 Pioneer Parts dept.
Tell them its for your your retail store. Its so simple..
Pioneer parts are located in California and they UPS the manual and
say it takes 7-10 days for delivery!
Here's some tech info I got from a verry helpful friend when I was
screwing around with my PDR-05 and ran into problems..like, shorting
out the power supply twice!
Hi Darren,
Today I checked the manual of the PDR-05. Here is what I've found out.
The disc koading system works in this way:
IC 207 Pin54 is High during loading close (LIN)
IC 207 Pin55 is High during lodaing open (LOUT)
These signals are routed to a driving amplifier (IC 203) who inverts
the LIN signal and not inverts the LOUT signal.
As the IC 207 outputs logic levels (I assume) that means 0V and +5V
the IC 203 (which makes no amplification or reduction of the voltage)
outputs -5V or 0V or +5V. This signal is transfered to CN 202. Pinning
of CN 202 is:
1: from lever switch to ucom. This signal is High when the lever
switch is not closed to "CLMP". When the disc is clamped this sgnal
goes low.
2: from lever switch to ucom. This signal is high when the lever
switch is not closed to "OPEN". When the loader is open this signal
goes low.
3: loading signal from IC 203. This signal is -5V when closing, +5V
when opening and 0 V else.
4: GND for the lever switch
5: GND for the motor
So I think we have to inactivate the CLAMP signal and hold it high
while loading the pro disc. On the other side we need the signal from
the lever switch which says "disc clamped" to stop the motor. I think
we need a circuit which stops the motor when the CLAMP signal goes low
and send a CLAMP signal high to the processor.
Michael Imhof in Germany sells a Magic switch to Open/Close the drawer
without the the PDR-05 knowing.
