I would like to connect my Laserdisc AC3 RF out but am not sure what
type of cable to use. Should it be an audio or video interconnect and does
the impedance really matter? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Stewie

Just pick up a good quality audio interconnect and it will do the job
nicely......

The connector uses a 75-Ohm RCA video cable; however, I have never seen any
tests showing that regular audio cables are any worse or better than using
a video cable. If you have both types of cables (and most people do), then
try them both and see if you hear any differences.

Good Luck, Lon

The biggest problem I've had with cables on the RF output to the Decoder
is dropouts. I had at least two or three per film on the original cable
I was using. I've since upgraded that cable to a Monster Video-2 cable
and have not had a single dropout since.

Was your original cable an audio interconnect or a video cable? I've not yet
heard of dropouts on video cables and have heard several times about audio
interconnects failing.

If it was a video cable, did you do an autopsy on it to see if it was broken?

Thanks,

Matthew

It was a 15 year old coax video cable. I suspect it wasn't very well
shielded and I just had lots of noise. I did not perform an autopsy.

I use monster video 2 cable for my AC-3 Interconnect. A 75 ohm cable
is best for tranfering the RF signal which is designed to video
specifications. Never had any problems.

Actually a good quality coaxial 75 Ohm video interconnect (with yellow RCA
jacks) is what you want.

I had same problem too (audio dropout) with the Marantz 870 but since I
switch to the Sony 09ES every thing is perfect (using same MIT digital
cable)

Call me heretical, but I've had no problems using the cheapest zip cord on
the face of the planet!

I do plan to get a Monster cable at some point just to avoid the
embarrassment of having ShitCord (TM) in my system, but I haven't had any
dropouts whatsoever after about a month of watching AC-3 discs.
