I recently purchased the O' Brother, Where Art Thou? DVD. I don't
have a standalone DVD player, but a DVD-ROM drive on my computer. But
when I watched this DVD, it seems that the mouths don't move _quite_
in sync with the words... as if the audio track was played just
slightly before the video. It's not off by much, but just enough for
me to notice.
Has this shown up for anyone else? I put in Contact (the only other
DVD I own), and I didn't notice this problem, so I assume it isn't the
drive or the player software. Should I try return the O' Brother
disc?
Any help/advice would be appreciated.
Oh, one other note... When I put the O' Brother disc into the drive,
the player software doesn't appear to see it as a DVD. But once I
eject the disk and put it back in, it shows up fine. I don't know if
this is relevant to the above problem or not.
I'm using a Dell Dimension 4100 800 MHz, with a Samsung DVD-ROM drive.

Computer drives with software-only players are notoriously bad at
playing DVD's. Spend $150 and get a player to hook to your TV.

Weird. I was watching this last night on my standalone player (Toshiba 210E
hooked up to a Denon 3801) and noticed the same thing (I was listening to
the DTS track). Like you say, it was just enough to notice, but not quite
enough to be totally off-putting. Anyone else?

I've seen it happen with Toshiba players as well as Sony..no problems with
Panasonic or Pioneer players.

Try different player software. No doubt you're using the OEM software that came
with the computer, which usually isn't too great.

Garth, marriage is punishment for shoplifting in some countries.
I've got a Toshiba DVD-Rom and it plays it flawlessly. However I am
using a hardware decoder card (H+). This might be the solution for the
original poster. They are pretty cheap, and you can get one with a
remote too.
Hmmm. Now I'm wondering if I've got a defective disc!
Any chance of getting an exchange?
