Ulead VS 11 Plus crashes making chapters

Hi,
After downloading Video Studio 11 Plus, installing it and inserting any
mpg or avi file and then going to 'Share' and attempting to create chapters
I am unable to see a jog bar in the preview window to make chapters
manually. The only choice given is to make chapters automatically at a set
interval. When I click on that single option an error box comes up and says
that VideoStudio has crashed and will have to close down. I've been on the
phone to Ulead and the tech has no idea what's going on.
What is more confounding is that I've installed the program on two other
computers and come up with the same problem. After that I re-downloaded the
program from the Ulead website. At this point I took a fresh hard drive and
installed Win XP on my regularly used computer and then installed the newly
downloaded VS 11 Plus. When trying to make chapters it comes up with the
same problem. I have had no trouble running VS 9 or VS 10 on any of the
computers before this installation and have been working with Video Studio
for over three years.
Anyone have any notion of what is going on?

Thanks,

I just tried it with my copy of 10+ and there could be at
least two ways to do what you seem to be looking for.

But first "Chapters" or PPT are a part of the DVD structure
and created during authoring the DVD.

VS has cue points that you can put into your project.
That is available under the "Tools" tab and is called
"Chapter Point Bar...". Normally added while you are
editing and will be carried over to the authoring function
as chapter points.

Under the Share tab; you would use the "Create Disk"
icon to get to the authoring function. There is an "Add/
Edit Chapter... selection, if you select that, you get a
window with another preview and jog bar. It has a note
under it: "Drag the Jog Bar and click Add Chapter (if a
suitable frame shows)"

If you had cue/chapter points set in the project they will
appear as chapters, as well.

Hopefully version 11 hasn't changed all that.

Luck;
Ken

That's the odd thing about all this. I have been using 10+ before 11+ and
there was a jog bar available immediately when going to the 'add chapter
preview screen'. In 11+, after adding video, and starting with 'Share' and
then going to add chapters gives the preview screen but no jog bar along the
timeline, when it should by what I'm used to in 10+. All the play, stop, etc
controls are grayed out along with the movement wheel that sits to the right
underneath the preview window.

What do you get if you set a cue point before going to
"Create Disk..." under "Share"?

So far it sounds like a change in the procedure or there
is a bug. A change should be documented in the help.
Things don't gray out unless the programmer makes a
provision for them to. It is a way of showing that a
feature is unavailable. The programmer has to define the
conditions that will result in those controls being grayed
out.

Thank you for the suggestion of trying to make chapters from the editing
timeline and the Cue manager. I can do that, either make them by clicking on
the timeline or building a time spot in the Cue Manager. After making a few
chapters and clicking on Share I get the inset window again to create
chapters and when I click on adding chapters all the chapters I've made from
the timeline and cue manager show up. However, when I click 'next' I'm
sometimes getting a program error message and then a crash of the VS11.

Well this doesn't make me too eager to upgrade, sounds like
a bug to me. You might bug Ulead again and place a comment
on their forum.

The problem of making chapters with VS 11+ can be solved by downloading and
installing

directx_jun2007_redist.exe from Microsoft.

I love beta testing new software.
