When it comes to Divx, however, I just can't find a very good reason to
do it. First I have to spend upwards of 10 hrs. to rip a DVD and burn
it onto a CD. Then the playback will look good only on a PC. To see it
on TV, I need a video card with TV out. My experience with TV-out video
cards is the output on TV is generally a great deal fuzzier than on the
PC monitor, perhaps even worse than the tape I produced with the SIMA
box. So to sum it all up, copying the DVD to tape is easier, quicker,
almost as cheap, and probably gives higher playback quality on the TV.
Plus I won't have to tie up my PC for a whole 10 hrs. Am I overlooking
something?

Only fools use CD's as coasters. A good coaster is soft and absorbs
liquid. CD's are too hard, a grain of sand or dust will seriously
scratch your table whenever you move one, they stick to the table,
inviting you to slide them instead of lifting them. They are too
thin to be lifted without sliding them to the side. Plus whenever
you spill something it just runs right off, and goes below the
CD, further damaging your table.
