I feel your pain. I have the Casio TV-770.

Small comfort: Our little Casios can be used with a converter box in a
pinch. I tried it with the box's output coax center wire clipped to the rod
antenna on the Casio. Perfect Ch. 3 picture/sound out of the Casio.

The Eviant TV in the report must have the same chipset and useless remote
control as the "Axiom" we first purchased from Target. Their "Prism" and
"Haier" models, at $99.99, have full function remotes, and on/off switch for
the remote IR receiver, and offers as good a reception as one could expect.

ALL of the "new" models (with ATSC tuners and internal rechargeable
battery) mentioned have very poor battery life (less than 2.5 hours).

If you really don't need a portable TV now I would wait a while before
buying one. Hopefully, by Christmas, we should see models with much
better battery life.

I suspect that they are using the chipset that the table top
converters do.

Give them time to develop a low power version of the chipset.

For the past several years there have been available digital and
analog USB tuners which are slightly larger than a thumb drive
and operate on lap top USB power. Having one of these made it
possible to tune digital OTA signals years ago. The only thing
required when the cut-off finally happened, was to rescan.

OK, more than $170 (if you count the purchase of the lap top).

For lengthy emergency use, the only solution, so far, for true
lap top portability is spare batteries.
