I'm currently reading (or trying to read) _Dracula the Un-Dead_ by Dacre Stoker (Bram Stoker's grandnephew or something), but I'm finding it confusing. The
story vacillates between Jonathan Harker etal being fictional characters and
Jonathan Harker etal being real people.

Has anyone who has read this novel help me out? Am I missing something or
does the story become clearer if I continue to read? If so, how? What's going
on?

Thanks for any help you can give.

It has been a long time since I read that, but I recall not liking it
very much.

His other novel, Dracul, was amazing.

Thanks for the reply. In the 25 years or so that we've been friends,
I've learned to value your opinion. We seem to think alike when it
comes to vampires and vampire stories. Guess I'll put _Dracula the
Undead_ aside for now and start reading _Dracul_ instead. Maybe
come winter, when I'm stuck inside during the cold and ice, I'll pick
it up again. It's good to know that I'm not the only one not really
liking it very much.

I found it formulaic with no character development to speak of. It
read in some ways like a plot outline that had been fleshed out. I
think boredom with it made it difficult to follow.

A quarter of a century; our friendship has crossed oceans of time.

Dracul is an excellent novel. So is Fevre Dream by George R Martin.
