2008
TRUE BLOOD TV SERIES

Principle Cast
Sookie Stackhouse ......... Anna Paquin
Bill Compton ............ Stephen Moyer
Jason Stackhouse ......... Ryan Quanten
Tara Thornton ........... Rutina Wesley
Sam Merlotte ............. Sam Trammell
Adele "Gran" Stackhouse .... Lois Smith

Background
Based on the first book, _Dead Until Dark_ (2001), of the nine
book Sookie Stackhouse series (known as "The Southern Vampire
Mysteries") by Charlaine Harris. Sookie Stackhouse is a waitress at
Merlotte's, a bar and grill in the fictional town of Bon Temps,
Louisiana. Since she was young, Sookie has been telepathic and able
to read the thoughts of others. As she aged, she learned to quiet the
thoughts. but sometimes they come through anyway, especially when she
is upset or loses her concentration. Sookie's brother Jason works for
the Public Works Department and has a reputation as the town player.
Sookie and Jason live with their grandmother Adele Stackhouse, having
lost their parents in a flash flood when Sookie was eight years old.
Tara Thornton, Sookie's best friend since kindergarten, also hangs
around the Stackhouse house. Tara is an outspoken Black girl who is
not afraid to say what's on her mind and has a history of losing jobs
because of it. Tara has a secret crush on Jason, but Jason sees her
only as Sookie's friend. Sam Merlotte, the owner of the bar where
Sookie works, is in love with Sookie. Two years previous, the
Japanese created a synthetic blood called "TruBlood" that satisfies a
vampire's nutritional needs, allowing vampires to "come out of the
coffin." They have formed an American Vampire League demanding civil
rights equal to those of all mankind. Sookie has fallen in love with
the vampire Bill Compton. Turned in 1865 when he was 30 years old,
Bill has returned to take over the old Compton place, which ownership
has reverted to him after the death of the last living Compton. As a
vampire, Bill has many of the traditional attributes -- fangs, speed,
super strength, ability to influence minds (which he calls
"glamoring"), inability to tolerate sunlight or silver, and he cannot
enter a mortal's home unless invited -- but he cannot fly nor
shapeshift. Unfortunately, the only one of Sookie's family, friends,
and acquaintences who approve of her friendship with Bill is Gran.

Summary of "Strange Love"
Episode 1.1 of TRUE BLOOD

New Characters
Arlene Fowler .............. Carrie Preston
Dawn Green ................... Lynn Collins
Lafayette Reynolds ........... Nelsan Ellis
Mack Rattray .................. James Parks
Denise Rattray ............... Karina Logue
Maudette Pickens ........... Danielle Sapia
Tattooed Vampire ............ Graham Shiels
Sheriff Bud Dearborn .... William Sanderson
Deputy Andy Bellefleur ........ Chris Bauer

Arlene Fowler, Dawn Green, and Sookie Stackhouse are waitressing
at Merlotte's, jive talking with the gay short-order cook Lafayette
Reynolds, and trying to keep their cool with customers who keep
lusting after them and slapping their behinds. Sookie gets a
telephone call from her best friend, Lafayette's cousin Tara
Thornton. Tara announces that she has just quit another job and is
coming to Merlotte's for a big margarita. Things go from bad to worse
when Mack and Denise Rattray sit down at one of Sookie's tables.
Sookie has to listen to the dirty remarks in the back of Mack's mind,
but she puts on her usual act and weathers it through. Suddenly,
everything changes when Bill Compton walks in. Sookie can tell right
away that he's a vampire.

Tall, dark, handsome, and looking rather glum, Bill sits at one
of Sookie's booths and orders a TruBlood. When Sookie tells him that
they don't carry TruBlood and that he's the first vampire to ever
come into Merlotte's, he orders a glass of red wine instead so that
he has a reason to sit there. While Sookie goes off to get his wine,
Bill reluctantly engages in a conversation with the Rattray's, who
are in the booth next to him. By the time Sookie brings back the
wine, the Rattrays have joined Bill in his booth. As Sookie sets down
the wine, however, she can hear Denise's thoughts as she totals up
how much Bill's blood will bring on the market. Sookie realizes that
the Rattrays are "drainers" who intend to ex-sanginate Bill. Vampire
blood, known as V-juice, is sought after for its good-feeling and
aphrodisiac effects and, because it's addicting, it fetches big money.

Meanwhile, Sookie's brother Jason is getting it on with Maudette
Pickens, when he notices a vampire bite on her thigh. Maudette
confesses to being paid $1,000 for having rough sex with a bald,
tattooed vampire, and she shows Jason a videotape of the session that
she secretly filmed. Jason is so turned on that he and Maudette
replicate the match, Jason not knowing that Maudette is secretly
filming him, too.

Sookie tries to get Tara and Sam to help her stop the Rattrays
from draining Bill, but neither of them wants to get involved. Sookie
looks back at Bill's booth and notices that the three of them --
Bill, Mack, and Denise -- are gone. All alone, Sookie runs out into
the parking lot. She grabs a heavy chain from the back of a pickup
and goes looking for Bill and the Rattrays. She finds them under a
tree. Mack and Denise have immobilized Bill with silver chains and
are poking his arm with a needle. Sookie sneaks up behind them and
wallops Mack with the chain. Mack draws a knife, but Sookie slaps the
chain around his neck, choking him. She grabs Mack's knife and chases
them both away, Denise promising to kill her for this.

After Mack and Denise run off, Sookie gently lifts off the
silver chains, noticing how they have burned into Bill's skin. She
notices, too, that she can't hear his thoughts, which she finds to be
a pleasant change from the usual clamor that always surrounds her.
Bill is also intrigued by Sookie because he can sense her
extrasensory abilities. After they introduce themselves to each
other, Sookie returns to the bar to finish her shift and finds that
Sam has hired Tara to tend bar (although the real reason is so that
Tara can help him keep an eye on Sookie). That night, Sookie dreams
about Bill.

The next day, as Sookie and Jason are having lunch, Gran gets a
phone call telling her that Maudette Pickens was just found strangled
in her apartment. When Jason returns to work, he is confronted by
Sheriff Bud Dearborne and Deputy Andy Bellefleur asking questions
about his relationship with Maudette. Jason tries to deny knowing her
until the sheriff tells him that they found the videotape of the two
of them having sex last night. Consequently, Dearborne takes Jason in
for questioning.

As Sookie gets ready for work, Gran questions her about Bill,
wondering whether or not he would be old enough to remember the Civil
War and would be willing to talk with the members of her club, the
Descendants of the Glorious Dead (DGD). Sookie promises to ask him
the next time he comes into the bar. By the time Sookie gets to
Merlotte's, news of Jason's arrest has made the rounds. As Sookie
scolds everyone for not telling her and for acting as though Jason
has already been convicted of Maudette's murder, Sookie is suddenly
aware that Bill has entered the bar. He asks her about her unusual
name and wonders whether he might call on her sometime. Sookie is
reminded that Gran wants her to talk with Bill about speaking to her
club, so she asks him to meet her around 1:30 AM, after she gets off
work.

Sam and Tara give Sookie hell for messing with a vampire. But
when 1:30 rolls around, Sookie goes outside to wait for Bill. As she
wanders through the parking lot, she is suddenly knocked down. Mack
and Denise Rattray proceed to kick and beat her bloody.

Summary of "The First Taste"
Episode 1.2 of TRUE BLOOD

New Characters
Nan Flanagan ................. Jessica Tuck
Rev Theodore Newlin ......... Randy Oglesby

As Sookie lays on the ground and Mack and Denise Rattray
continue kicking and pounding on her, Mack pulls out a gun and aims
it at a growling Border collie that occasionally hangs around
Merlotte's. Sookie reaches out to grab Mack's leg and, with
surprising strength, she flings him across the parking lot. Denise is
also tossed into the air by unseen hands and flung into the trees.
Then Bill suddenly appears. He gently picks up Sookie and lays her on
the soft ground. When Sookie tells him that she can't feel her legs,
Bill bites open his wrist and tells Sookie to drink his blood. At
first Sookie balks, but eventually gives in, drinking hungrily. As
the healing process begins, Bill licks the blood from Sookie's
forehead. He asks her what she is, and Sookie admits that she's
telepathic but that she is unable to read his thoughts, which she
finds utterly peaceful "after a lifetime of blah, blah, blah." When
she is healed completely, Bill walks her back to her car and agrees
to talk to Gran's club. Sookie invites him to come to her house
tomorrow and meet her grandmother.

Meanwhile, down at the police station, Jason, Sheriff Dearborne,
and Deputy Bellefleur are watching the videotape of Jason having sex
with Maudette. Jason is resigned to conviction when it shows his
hands around Maudette's throat, followed by him running out out the
door moaning about strangling her. Then Maudette laughs and calls him
a "moron." Relieving that the tape actually proves he didn't kill
Maudette, Jason tells Dearborne and Bellefleur about the vampire on
the other tape that she showed him. Dearborne replies that the only
tape they found was the one of Jason and suggests that Jason took the
other tape, leaving just the one that supposedly clears him of a
crime that he came back later to commit. "I'm not that smart," Jason
says convincingly.

Tara has gone home to find her mother passed out on the couch.
She phones Lafayette, who is on his way to a party, and asks him to
pick her up. At the party, Tara is spotted by a hunk named Terrell.
When Terrell tries to come on to her, Tara makes up a story about her
husband, a mercenary just returned from Iraq and so possessive of her
that he once shot some guy in the nuts just for buying her a CD.

Released from police custody, Jason goes straight to Dawn's
house. After telling her about his rotten day, they have sex. Jason
notices that Dawn has bite marks on her neck.

The next day, as Sookie eats breakfast, she watches a TV
newscast pitting Nan Flanagan, spokesperson for the American Vampire
League, against the Reverend Theodore Newlin of the Fellowship of the
Sun Church. Newlin is trying to convince the public that vampires are
soulless demons while Flanagan assures the public that vampires are
not to be feared. Both Sookie and Gran side with the vampires,
claiming that they don't think Jesus would mind if someone was a
vampire. As she chews on a sausage, Sookie notices that it tastes
much more "complex" than usual. Tara comes in, followed not long
afterward by Jason, and they sit down for breakfast. Gran gets a
phone call from one of her friends announcing that Mack and Denise
Rattray's trailor was struck by a tornado last night, and both of
them were killed.

That evening, as Jason, Tara, and Gran wait inside for Bill to
arrive, Sookie goes outside. As she is sweeping the porch, Bill
arrives. Sookie invites him inside. After being grilled by Jason and
Tara, Bill and Sookie decide to go for a walk, unaware that they are
being watched by the collie that growled at Mack when he and Denise
were beating on Sookie. As they stroll, Bill admits that it was he
who killed the Rattrays. He also admits to drinking their blood in
order to replace the blood that they and Sookie took from him. Sookie
asks him how the drinking of his blood will affect her, and Bill
explains that she will have keener senses, a stronger libido, and
that he will be able to feel her and to find her fast if she's ever
in trouble. She asks whether he's killed other people, and Bill
admits to killing a few people when he first became a vampire. Now,
however, he can get TruBlood from a clinic in Monroe or he can
"glamor" people into being a willing donor, so killing is not
necessary. Sookie dares him to try to glamor her, but it doesn't
work. Sookie and Bill finally end up standing in front of Bill's
house. When Bill mentions that he's having trouble getting an
electrician, Sookie offers to find one for him and drop by after her
shift ends tomorrow. As they stare into each others' eyes, Sookie
suddenly pulls Bill's head close to hers and kisses him. Bill's fangs
begin to appear, and he turns away. "I should take you home," he says.

Back in the house, Jason and Tara are drinking beers and talking
on the couch. Just as Tara ends up in Jason's arms, where she
secretly longs to be, Jason remembers that he promised to pick up
Dawn from work and splits. The next day, after having sex three times
with Dawn, Jason is lying on the bed, his hands tied to the bedposts
while Dawn gets ready for work. Only when he hears Dawn's car start
up does Jason realize that Dawn is going to leave him tied to the bed
while she works her shift.

As the night drones on at Merlotte's, Sookie is startled when
she overhears a news broadcast reporting on a highway accident that
killed the Reverend Newlin and his family. On her way home after
work, she stops at Bill's house as promised and is surprised to see
lights in the house. In front of the house, she sees a car bearing a
license plate that reads "Fangs 1" and bumper stickers that read
"Vampires Suck" and "Honk if you're a blood donor!" Sookie is about
to knock on the front door when it suddenly opens, revealing an
obvious vampiress who calls Sookie a "little human chick." Behind
her, there is a male vampire who remarks, "She smells fresh." Sookie
turns to leave and comes face-to-face with the bald, tattooed vampire.

Summary of "Mine"
Episode 1.3 of TRUE BLOOD

New Characters
Diane ...................... Aunjanue Ellis
Malcolm ................. Andrew Rothenberg
Liam ........................ Graham Shiels
Jerry ................... Nicholas Gonzalez
Lettie Mae Thornton .......... Adina Porter

The vampires -- Diane, Malcolm, and Liam -- attempt to glamor
Sookie but are surprised when it doesn't work on her. From inside the
house, Bill tells Diane to let Sookie in. The vamps continue to mess
with Sookie until Bill orders them to stop. "Sookie is mine!" he
glowers. Malcolm calls over his donor, Jerry, and offers him to Bill.
Bill's fangs pop out and it's obvious that he's thinking about
it...until Sookie suddenly shouts, "Don't do it! He has Hep D!",
having heard Jerry's private thoughts in which he was daring Bill to
bite him and infect himself with Hep D. Realizing that he's been
found it, Jerry lunges at Sookie and knocks her to the floor. Bill
pulls him off, and the vampires knock Jerry out and carry him to
their car. After the vamps leave, Bill explains Hep D to Sookie. Hep
D is the only bloodborne pathogen to which vampires are susceptible
(it doesn't harm humans). Hepatitis D doesn't kill vampires, but it
does make them weak for about a month, during which time they can be
easily captured and staked. He also explains that, by claiming Sookie
as his, he was claiming ownership so that the vampires wouldn't
consider her fair game...not that Bill intends to ever feed on Sookie
himself. After giving Bill the names of two electricians, Sookie
leaves in a huff, not happy about what she has learned about Bill and
his vampire "friends."

When she gets home, Sookie finds Bill waiting on her front
porch, checking to see that she got home okay. Sookie asks him why
she can't hear his thoughts, and Bill surmises that it's because he
doesn't have brain waves...nor does he have a heartbeat or a need to
breathe. Taking in all this compounded by the fact that this is the
second time she has almost been killed, Sookie tells Bill that she
wants to stop seeing him and leaves him standing on the porch, but
that night she dreams about having sex with him. After leaving
Sookie's house, Bill pays a visit to his vampire friends to warn them
to stay away from Sookie. Malcolm points out that he is older than
Bill, but Bill threatens to take it to Eric or to an even higher
power if they continue to flaunt their ways in front of mortals.

After her shift ends, Dawn goes home to find that Jason has
escaped his bindings. Suddenly, she is attacked from behind by a man
wearing a hood over his head. He tells her that he's the vampire she
allowed to feed on her, and he wants more. As he positions her neck
for biting, he assures her that he won't take much because he already
drained the poor schmuck she left tied to her bed "like an
all-you-can-eat buffet." As Dawn fights to get free, the vampire
removes his hood, revealing himself to be Jason. During the sex that
ensues, Jason looks down at Dawn and sees, instead, the face of the
bald, tattooed vampire, causing him to lose his erection. He and Dawn
get into a fight about Dawn having had sex with a vampire and Jason's
suddenly inability to hold an erection. Dawn orders Jason out of her
house and shoots off a gun to show she means it. Jason runs out the
front door where his leaving is witnessed by a neighbor.

Sam notices that Tara is hanging around Merlotte's after her
shift has ended. He asks her why she doesn't want to go home, and
Tara explains that her mother drinks and that she can't stand to be
around her mother when she's drunk. Tara sways the conversation
around to their sex lives...or lack thereof...and suggests that she
and Sam get it on together. At first, Sam rejects the idea. After a
few drinks, however, he agrees...on the condition that they forget it
ever happened so as not to affect their working relationship.

The next morning, when Tara returns home, she finds her mother
already falling down drunk. Lettie Mae wallops Tara in the head and
accuses her of being an evil and spiteful child. When Tara tries to
help her mother up from the floor and get her to the shower, Lettie
Mae hits her in the head with a liquor bottle. Tara has had it. She
picks up her car keys and walks out the door. She goes to Lafayette's
house for first aid and asks if she can stay with him for a few days.

Ashamed of his inability to hold his erection last night, Jason
pays a visit to Lafayette and asks to buy some Viagra. Lafayette
points out that Viagra is legal and obtainable in any drugstore and
offers to sell him some V-blood instead, although it costs $600 for a
quarter of an ounce. Desperate, Jason makes a deal with Lafayette and
gives him the V-blood, warning him not to take more than two drops at
any given time.

At breakfast, Sookie has a talk with Gran about her feelings for
Bill. Although her head tells her to stay away, her heart is saying
the opposite. Gran tells Sookie that she can't tell her what to do
but admits that Bill is a good-looking and well-mannered young man.
Gran can't imagine that God would make something, including vampires,
for no purpose and that the purpose will be revealed in time. Later
that morning, Sookie stops by Bill's house but, being that it's
daytime, he's nowhere to be seen. As Sookie sits on Bill's steps, she
notices that colors seem to be enhanced and her libido appears to be
raging.

Suddenly, Sookie's cellphone rings. Sam wants her to check on
Dawn because she's late for work, and the restaurant is set to open
in 20 minutes. When Sookie arrives at Dawn's house and knocks on the
door, no one answers. Sookie finds the front door unlocked, so she
goes inside, calling Dawn's name. Still no answer. Sookie walks
through the house until she reaches Dawn's bedroom, where she finds
Dawn sprawled across the bed...dead. Sookie screams.

Summary of "Escape from Dragon House"
Episode 1.4 of TRUE BLOOD

New Characters
Eric Northman ......... Alexander Skarsgard

As Sookie screams, Jason walks into Dawn's bedroom, a bunch of
flowers in his hand. Sookie's screams bring the neighbor lady
running. She remembers the fight between Jason and Dawn last night
and calls the police. When the police arrive, Sheriff Dearborne
questions Sookie, and Andy cuffs Jason and throws him in the patrol
car. As he is sitting there, Jason remembers the illegal V-blood in
his pocket. So as not to get caught with it, Jason drinks the entire
amount and hides the vial between the cushions.

A bit later, as Jason is questioned at the police station, he
feels an erection coming on and can barely make it to the bathroom.
The erection becomes so painful that Jason can barely stand. He
starts to moan loudly and falls to the floor. His moans bring Andy
and Bud running, but the door is locked. As they're standing there,
waiting for Jason to come out, Tara comes charging into the station.
She asks whether Jason has been properly Mirandized and reminds them
that Jason has the right to have an attorney present during his
questioning. When Jason finally comes out of the bathroom, Tara
informs them that Jason was with her last night. At first, Jason
looks surprised at her lie, but he goes along with it. Realizing that
they can't charge Jason with anything, Sheriff Dearborne releases
him. And it's a good thing, too. Hours later, Jason is still harder
than a rock. He seeks out Lafayette at Merlotte's, but Lafayette
informs him that there's no antidote for V.

The erections keep coming, so Jason secludes himself in a back
room and holds a cold stake against his penis. Tara walks into the
room, and Jason is forced to explain to her how he bought the V from
Lafayette and was forced to drink the entire amount. When he shows
her the problem, Tara is amazed and forces Jason to go with her to
the hospital. The doctor gasps when he sees Jason's penis and
describes it as like an eggplant due to the color and how it's
swollen at the end. The doctor explains that the normal treatment is
to inject an anti-inflammatory drug into the penis, but Jason's case
has progressed too far and is going to need aspiration (draining the
blood from the penis). With Tara's hand to hold, Jason lays back on
the table. The doctor comes at Jason with a large hypodermic syringe.
"You're going to feel a stick in three...two..." Jason screams.
Later, as Tara drives a sleeping Jason home, she smiles at a memory
of Jason protecting her from her mother when they were both younger.

After finding Dawn's body, Sookie offered to take her shift at
Merlotte's, but she first stopped at home to tell Gran about Dawn and
Jason. Gran already knew, and she asked Sookie to use her "gift" to
listen in on people's thoughts to see whether she can learn anything.
Sookie agreed to try, but she doesn't pick up anything useful. When
Bill comes into the bar, Sookie asks him to take her to the
Fangtasia, a vampire bar in Shreveport where both Maudette and Dawn
were known to hang out. Bill agrees, so Sookie goes home to change.
The Fangtasia is filled with vampires and mortals looking to donate
to a vampire, but Sookie can pick up nothing other than the fact that
the bartender remembers seeing both Maudette and Dawn there. As
Sookie is sipping a gin and tonic and Bill is downing a bottle of
O-negative, they are summoned by the owner of the bar, Eric, the
oldest vampire there.

Eric has been informed that Sookie has been asking questions and
tells her to ask her questions of him, not his patrons. Eric also
remembers Maudette and Dawn and even admits having "tasted" Dawn.
When Sookie thanks him for his time and tries to walk away, Eric says
that he's not done with her yet and tells her to sit down. Eric and
Bill start to chat, while Sookie hears an undercover cop wondering
where his backup is. Sookie warns them that the bar is about to be
raided, and there's a vamp feeding on a human in the bathroom. Eric
asks her how she knows this, but Bill motions to her to keep quiet.
They escape out the back door just as the cops storm into the bar.
Eric tells Sookie to come again.

On the way home, Sookie asks Bill to stop the car so that she
can get her wits back. As they lean forward to kiss, a patrol car
pulls up behind them, lights flashing and siren wailing. The cop asks
them whether they've been at the Fangtasia and orders Sookie to show
him her neck so that he can check for bites. Sookie complies, but
Bill gets angry. He glamors the cop into giving him his gun. Bill
then points the gun at the cop and informs him that, the next time he
pulls someone over on suspicion of being a vampire, he'd better hope
that he's wrong, because the next vampire might not be as kind as
Bill is going to be. Bill keeps the gun and leaves the cop standing
at the side of the road. As Bill and Sookie drive away, the cop pees
down his pant leg.

Meanwhile, Sam has closed the bar for the night. He grabs a pair
of rubber gloves and goes over to Dawn's house. As her landlord, Bill
has keys to her house. He lets himself in and goes sniffing through
her house. When he gets to her bed, he crawls across it, sniffing at
the sheets and the pillows.

Summary of "Sparks Fly Out"
Episode 1.5 of TRUE BLOOD

New Characters
Hoyt Fortenberry .............. Jim Parrack
Rene Lenier ......... Michael Raymond-James
Randi Sue .................. Danielle James
Caroline Compton ....... Amber Dawn Landrum
Lorena .................... Mariana Klaveno

Following Sookie and Bill's disastrous "nondate" to the
Fangtasia and Bill's uncouth treatment of the police officer, Sookie
reads him the riot act, and Bill assures her that he won't call on
her again. The next morning at breakfast, as Gran fends off nasty
phone calls from church members who are opposed to her inviting a
vampire as at speaker, Sookie confesses to Gran that she and Bill had
a "kinda" fight and that she doesn't think she and Bill see the world
in the same way. Gran replies that, if she had the chance to see the
world through the eyes of someone who experienced it in such a
different way, she would welcome it as a blessing. When Sookie later
tells Arlene, as they're working at the counter at Merlotte's, that
she's not going to see Bill again, Sam finally gets up enough courage
to ask her to go with him to Bill's talk to the DGD, and Sookie
agrees.

Following Jason's disastrous experience with V-juice, having to
have his penis drained and all, he confronts Lafayette and tries to
talk him out of selling V. "It fucks people up," he says. Instead,
Lafayette convinces Jason that, if he can learn to control it, V can
help open his mind to everything that is missing in his life.
Lafayette explains that a human's blood sustains life, whereas a
vampire's blood IS life, a vampire being little more than a bag of
blood encased in skin. He places a drop of V on each of four wafers,
and then he and Jason both eat them.

As Bill begins his speech to the DGD in the local church, he
removes the cover from the cross and shows that he doesn't go up in
flames. He suggests to the audience that both vampires and humans can
coexist. His speech goes wonderfully, and the audience seems to enjoy
it. It seems that Bill has won them over with his first hand
knowledge of their ancestors. Bill himself is moved by his own
memories of the family he left behind in 1862 when he went away to
fight in the Civil War.

After Bill's talk has ended, Sookie and Sam stop off at
Merlotte's for coffee and eats. Jason, still high on V, comes on to
Tara, but Tara tells him that they can have a serious talk when he is
sober. Jason sits down with Hoyt Fortenberry and Rene Lenier to share
a pitcher of Dixie Draft, but Hoyt orders a bottle of TruBlood,
hoping it will give him the courage to accept an invitation to go
home with Randi Sue, who is hot to trot since her divorce just went
through. The blood tastes terrible, so Jason tells Hoyt that he
should try V-juice instead. Later, when Tara finds Jason humping
Randi
Sue out back by the garbage cans, she dumps garbage on their heads,
angry at herself for even agreeing to a serious talk with Jason,
Inside Merlotte's, Lafayette is angered by a group of local rednecks
who insinuate that the hamburgers he cooked for them contain the AIDs
virus.

Meanwhile, Bill is being visited at his home by Andy Bellefleur
and Sheriff Dearborne, asking him where he was the nights that
Maudette Pickens and Dawn Green were murdered. When Bill learns that
neither of their bodies was drained of blood, he assures the
policemen that a vampire could not have killed them and then left
their bodies without draining them. After Bellefleur and Dearborne
leave, Bill has a flashback to his beginnings as a vampire. He was
making his way back to his family -- a wife and two small children --
when he stopped at a cottage begging for food. He is fed by a nice
lady named Lorena, who claims to be the widow of an infantryman. She
invites Bill to spend the night with her, but Bill wants to continue
on his way back to his family. As Bill tries to leave the cottage,
Lorena jumps on him, her fangs bared. When Bill regains
consciousness, Lorena forces him to drink her blood. Later, she
accompanies Bill to his house where she informs him that he can never
return to his wife and children as they would be killed if they were
found harboring a vampire.

As they share a piece of pie, Sam invites Sookie to probe his
thoughts, and Sookie admits that she has already tried but that his
thoughts are different from most people's thoughts...more like sounds
and emotions than words and images. Later, when Sam tries to kiss
her, Sookie puts him off, claiming that it's too soon, which leads to
an argument between them about her relationship with Bill. In a huff,
Sookie stalks off, announcing that she will take a taxi home. When
Sookie walks in the house, she almost slips on something on the
floor. Turning on the light, she sees that it is blood and finds Gran
lying dead on the kitchen floor.

Sam walks in, explaining that he stopped by to make sure that Sookie
got home safely. Bill and Sam have a confrontation, but Sookie stops

apologize for going off on Bill, but tells him to apologize some
other time and asks the whereabouts of Bill. Reluctantly, Sam goes to
get Bill, but promises him that, should anything happen to Sookie, he
will fashion a stake with Bill's name on it. Before Bill can go to
Sookie, Dep Andy and Sheriff Bud start asking him questions, since
Sookie informed them that Bill was already there when she got home.
Bill explains that he heard a car (his property abuts on the
Stackhouse property), and he came over to check it out. Andy and Bud
suspect that a vampire may be the murderer, since all three victims
-- Maudette, Dawn, and Gran -- were known to be "gracious" to
vampires. Bill's comeback is that he suspects the killer is someone
who is stalking women who associate with vampires. Furthermore, he
thinks Sookie was the intended victim, not Gran. Bill, Sam, Andy, and
Bud try to convince Sookie to move away, but Sookie refuses to leave.
After everyone has left, Sookie is left alone to clean up the blood.

The next day, tuna casseroles, jello salads, and mourners start
arriving. Jason finally shows up, after being informed by Rene and
Hoyt about Gran's death. The first thing he does is to slap Sookie
("It should have been YOU!"), but Tara intervenes and sends him
packing. When Deputy Andy questions him about his whereabouts last
night, Jason slugs him, too, and drives off in a huff, angry at being
suspected of murdering his own grandmother. Sookie takes a Valium and
lays down to sleep, so Tara sends everyone home, and she and
Lafayette stay to clean up the mess. As the sun starts to set, Bill
has a feeling that Sookie is in danger, but he is thwarted from
rushing to her side by the fact that the sun is still up. As soon as
the sun sinks below the horizon, he rushes to Sookie's bedside and is
happy to find that it was all a dream. Sookie is okay, and Bill keeps
watch over her for the rest of the night, accompanied by the Merlotte
Border collie.

The next morning, Gran's funeral is held at the Bon Temps
cemetery. Sookie is surprised to see Uncle Bartlett, Gran's brother,
at the ceremony. When the minister calls Sookie up to say a few
words, Sookie is so disturbed by everyone's thoughts that she cuts
her eulogy short and leaves the platform. To everyone's surprise and
to Tara's horror, Lettie Mae takes the stage, going on about how
beholden she was to Gran for taking care of Tara when Lettie wasn't
able. Later, Tara confronts Lettie Mae, reminding her of how she used
to refer to her as "a white devil bitch". Lettie Mae informs Tara
that it wasn't she who said and did all those things; it was the
demon inside her. She asks Tara for money so that she can have the
demon exorcised, but Tara just laughs and walks away.

Sookie walks home from the funeral with Sam but then sends him
away because she wants to be alone. She goes into the house and eats
the last piece of a pecan pie that Gran baked, crying all the while.
Sam goes home with Tara, and they decide to have sex together again.
After finishing off the pie, Sookie gets into her nightgown. When the
sun has sunk below the horizon, Sookie runs across the field to
Bill's house, where he is waiting for her on the porch. They kiss,
and Bill carries Sookie inside where they make love. At the same
time, Jason is screwing Randi Sue again. Tara suddenly jumps up,
leaving Sam in bed. She puts on her clothes and goes over to see her
mother. As Sookie and Bill make love before the fireplace, Bill's
fangs suddenly erupt, and Sookie offers him her neck. Bill bites her.

Summary of "Burning House of Love"
Episode 1.7 of TRUE BLOOD

New Characters
Pam ......................... Kristin Bauer
Amy Burley ................... Lizzy Caplan
Miss Jeanette ................. Aisha Hings
Terry Bellefleur ................ Todd Lowe

After making love to Bill, Sookie assures him that it was
wonderful but confesses that she can't stop thinking about Uncle
Bartlett, who molested her when she was a child. It's time for Bill
to sleep, so he shows Sookie his hiding place, and then Sookie goes
home. Now that she has consummated her relationship with Bill,
everyone at Merlotte's notices the change in her personality. Arlene
gets Sookie to admit that she and Bill have had sex, and Sam
overhears Arlene telling Rene. Sam rips the scarf off Sookie's neck
to see the bite marks. He then reads her the riot act in front of the
entire restaurant, so Sookie tells him to fire her.

Lafayette refuses to sell more V to Jason, who has become
addicted to the stuff, so Jason takes matters into his own hands. He
takes Gran's silver candlesticks to pawn, then he drives to the
Fangtasia in Shreveport to see if he can score some V there. He is
met at the door by the same vampire (Pam) who ID'ed Sookie the other
night. She recognizes the name "Stackhouse" and glams Jason into
revealing that he's looking for some V, so she lets him go in
("...but good luck getting out.") Jason overtly tries to get someone
to sell him some V, but he is stopped by Amy Burley, who hints that
she has V in her purse. Jason and Amy leave the Fangtasia and go to
Jason's place. Amy turns out to be a Gaea-worshipper. While praying
to the forces of nature, she puts a drop of V on each of two aspirin
tablets (it keeps the blood from coagulating and gives a better
high), then she and Jason snort it. The effect comes on strong and
quick, but the sex is slow and sensual.

Tara continues to refuse her mother the $445 she needs to
exorcise her demon, until Lettie Mae makes a scene when the bank also
refuses to loan her the money. Seeing how deeply her mother believes
that it is the demon who is making her drink, Tara finally relents
and gives Lettie the money from her secret stash under the sink.
Lettie and Tara go to see Miss Jeanette, who has agreed to perform
the exorcism...cash in advance, of course. Lettie Mae is told to
undress and lie on a table. Miss J then places some rocks and a
"demon stone" on her abdomen. Tara complains when Miss Jeanette
brings over a possum, but Miss J explains that the first thing the
demon will do when it is released is to find a new body. Let it be
the possum's. Then she begins to chant and beat on a tambourine. As
her chanting gets stronger, Lettie Mae begins to thrust her body
around. Suddenly, the possum lets out a growl and Lettie goes limp.
Miss J then drowns the possum and deems Lettie Mae rid of her demon.
But now there's the problem of the demon in Tara, she points out, but
Tara will have nothing to do with believing any such thing.

Back at Merlotte's, Lafayette has gotten even with the redneck
who accused him of passing on AIDs in his hamburgers. He heats a
spoon and puts it in the man's soup. When he takes a sip of his soup,
the spoon burns his mouth. Things get even worse when Bill's three
vampire "friends" -- Malcolm, Diane, and Liam -- suddenly walk in the
bar. Sam tries to kick them out for not being locals, but they
announce that they've just purchased a house in Bontemps and that
refusing to serve a vampire is against the law in Louisiana. Malcolm
notices Sookie and can tell right away that she's been bitten by
Bill, but that doesn't stop him. As he advances on Sookie, Terry
Bellefleur attempts to stop him, but Malcolm easily bounces Terry
across the room. Sam breaks a poolstick into a makeshift stake, but
Liam puts him into a stranglehold.

At that moment, Bill enters the bar and yells "Stop it!", having
sensed that Sookie was in trouble while he was out doing a favor for
her (i.e., killing Uncle Bartlett and dumping his body in a lake).
Malcolm says that they were only trying to get Bill's attention and
invites Bill to join them at their nest. Bill goes with them,
countering Sookie's attempts to stop him by telling her that he's not
human. "I'm a vampire!" After they leave, the rednecks decide to go
after them. Sookie tries to get Sam to stop them, but he wants
nothing more to do with vampires. If Sookie wants to hang with
vampires, that's her business, he says. He just doesn't want them in
his bar. Sookie tries to convince Sam that Bill only left with the
other vampires in order to get them out of Merlotte's, but Sam
doesn't care.

Sookie tries to telephone Bill to warn him, but he's not
answering. She goes over to his house, but he's not there. The next
morning, after the sun has risen, the three rednecks sneak up to the
vampires' nest with Molotov cocktails. They toss them through the
windows, and the house is immediately engulfed in flames. As the
three rednecks run away, the screams of the vampires can be heard
inside. Meanwhile, out on the lake doing some early morning fishing,
Andy and Terry are surprised to see Sam running bare-naked through
the trees. Andy's cellphone rings, and he learns about the fire that
destroyed the vampires' nest. By the time Sookie gets there, they
have carried out four coffins and set them on the lawn.

Summary of "The Fourth Man in the Fire"
Episode 1.8 of TRUE BLOOD

New Characters
Coby Fowler ..................... Alec Gray
Lisa Fowler .................. Laurel Weber
Eddie ........................ Stephen Root
Ginger .......................... Tara Buck
Longshadow ................. Raoul Trujillo

Sookie is mortified when she learns that the remains of four
bodies have been pulled from the fire. Unfortunately, the bodies have
turned to mush, so it's impossible to make identifications. Certain
that the fourth victim could only be Bill, she spends the day keeping
her mind busy by vigorously cleaning the house. That evening, after
the sun has set, she places flowers on Bill's grave. As she's walking
home, a hand suddenly reaches up from the dirt and grabs her leg. She
struggles to get away until she realizes that it's Bill. He had an
inkling that he'd better hide himself and, so, took refuge in the
dirt. So happy to see him alive, Sookie kisses him, and they make
love right there on the ground. When Bill bites her, Sookie asks only
that it not be on the neck. Days later, the fourth man is identified
as a "fangbanger" named Neil.

When Terry gets to Merlotte's the next morning with supplies, he
asks Sam if it was him streaking through the woods buck-naked. Sam
denies it and suggests that the trees might have provided enough
cover that maybe he didn't see what he thought he saw. Terry
apologizes for sometimes seeing things that aren't there, a leftover
from his days in Iraq. Andy and Bud stop to question Sam about the
guys who might have burned down the vampires' house and also asks
about him running naked in the woods. Sam makes up a story about his
parents being naturists and living in a nudist colony just outside of
Beaumont, Texas. Once a year, he admits, he runs naked in the woods
just to honor their memory. Andy accepts that explanation but calls
the Beaumont nudist colony to check up on Sam's story. They deny ever
having had members by the name of Merlotte.

Jason and Amy are just waking up from their night on V-juice.
Neither of them can believe how absolutely extraordinary was their
experience as well as how absolutely extraordinary they are to each
other. Amy tells Jason that she sees something deep and wise in him,
and Jason tells Amy that he doesn't ever want her to leave. "Let's
just screw and do V until we starve," he says. Jason is astonished
when Amy informs him that they didn't have sex that night, and their
connection to each other was all because of the V-juice.
Unfortunately, that was the last of Amy's V-juice, but there's no
rush...they can do without it for a while. Instead, they go to
Merlotte's for lunch. The place is jumping and the orders are backing
up, so Amy pitches in and plays waitress, having worked a job as a
waitress once before. She does it so well that Arlene suggests Sam
should hire her on the spot.

Tara is amazed by Lettie Mae's transformation since Miss
Jeanette exorcised her demon. "It's like aliens beamed down one
morning and switched out her brain," she tells Lafayette. One morning
she is awakened by her mother tossing out all her bottles of "devil
juice" and making hoecakes for breakfast. Tara races over to Sookie's
house to tell her, but they get into a big fight when Tara notices
the fang marks on Sookie's neck, and Tara storms out the door. The
next morning Tara finds that her mother has done the laundry and
rejoined her church group. When Lettie Mae suggests that Tara come to
Bible study, Tara blows up and storms off. Feeling angry and alone,
Tara has sex with Sam, then gets into a fight with him when he tells
her that she makes noises like when Serena Williams serves a tennis
ball. Tara takes it for a racist remark and storms out.At Merlotte's.
Beginning to believe that she may also have a demon inside of her,
Tara decides to pay a visit to Miss Jeanette.

Sookie is in a great mood when she returns to work after
learning that Bill is alive. When she goes to pick up the orders for
her tables, she is told that "the new girl" has already taken care of
them. A bit taken aback, Sookie is introduced to Amy as Jason's new
girlfriend. At first, Sookie is cool towards Amy, but Amy seems to be
sensitive and caring, so Sookie feels obligated to warn her about
Jason and the dog he is. "He's all charm and smiles in the beginning,
but the second he gets tired of you, he's gonna stop calling," Sookie
says. "Before you know it, he's off with some other floozy."
Nonplussed, Amy tells Sookie that there's a lot more to Jason than
what everybody seems to think.

On the one evening that Arlene has off work, and she and Rene
have made plans to go to Ruston to see the Oak Ridge Boys tribute
band and have dinner at Red Lobster, she learns that her babysitter
can't make it, so Sookie volunteers to watch Arlene's two children,
Coby and Lisa . When Arlene shows up that evening, with kids in tow,
she is shocked to find Bill there, too. Sookie assures Arlene that
Bill will not harm her kids. Rene reminds Arlene that Bill raised a
couple of them little ones himself, so Arlene relents. Bill, Sookie,
and the kids have a great time together, eating pizza and ice cream
and talking about whether or not Bill can be considered to be
Sookie's boyfriend. You bring Sookie flowers, she says, "then we'll
talk." On the way back from Ruston, Rene pretends to have a flat
tire. He gets out of the car to change it and asks Arlene to bring
him the Maglite. It appears to be burnt out, so Arlene opens it to
check the batteries and finds an engagement ring. All is forgiven
when Arlene gets back to Sookie's house, and she asks Sookie to be
her bridesmaid. Of course, Sookie agrees. Rene makes a comment about
Sookie and Bill being next, then remembers that it's not yet legal
for vampires and humans to marry. That night, Sookie dreams about
having breakfast with Bill only to have him burst into flames in the
morning sun. It saddens her to realize that she and Bill can never
have breakfast together.

The time has come for Amy and Jason to get more V, as Amy is
starting to have withdrawal symptoms. Since Lafayette refuses to sell
it to Jason, Amy comes up with another way of procuring V, in a
manner that suggests she knows what she's doing and has done it
before. That night, they follow Lafayette. He goes to visit his
vampire friend Eddie with whom he has an arrangement...blood for sex.
Eddie is an obese, middle-aged vampire who likes to watch TV and has
a penchant for sex with Lafayette. After obtaining his V and
servicing Eddie, Lafayette leaves. Amy and Jason then ring Eddie's
doorbell. When he answers, Amy throws a silver chainmail hood over
his neck. They bind his arms and legs and put him in the back of
Jason's pickup.

Bill returns home to find Eric taking a bath in his tub. Eric
needs a "favor" from Bill. He wants to use Sookie's powers to find
out who has stolen $60,000 from Fangtasia's coffers. Bill convinces
Sookie that Eric is an important person in vampire society, him being
the Sheriff of Area 5, and that it would behoove them to accede to
his wishes as long as the requests are reasonable. First Sookie is
asked to read the mind of the accountant who had access to the money,
but she determines that he is innocent. She goes through all the
other human employees. The last one is Ginger. Sookie can tell that
Ginger didn't do it but that she knows who did. Unfortunately, her
memory is blank, having been glamored by a vampire. Suddenly,
Longshadow, the vampire bartender, leaps out from behind the bar and
goes for Sookie's neck.

Summary of "Plaisir d'Amour"
Episode 1.9 of TRUE BLOOD

New Characters
Chow .................... Patrick Gallagher

When Longshadow goes for Sookie's neck, Bill desperately breaks
off a beer tap from the bar and plunges it into Longshadow's back.
Longshadow disintegrates on the floor. Unfortunately, Bill has broken
one of the cardinal rules of vampire society...he has killed a
vampire for the sake of a human. Now there's a price to be paid, but
Bill refuses to turn over Sookie's "ownership" to Eric, so he and
Sookie leave Fangtasia, happy that the price was just a "slap on the
wrist." When they get back to Sookie's house, however, they find that
someone has beheaded her cat and hung it's body on the ceiling fan,
splashing blood all over the walls. Sookie is a wreck the next day at
work, yelling at Andy Bellefleur when he comes in for his usual
cheeseburger and fries. Would you please find out who is killing off
my family, she yells.

Jason is disturbed by Amy's method of procuring more V by
kidnapping Eddie and tying him to a lounge chair in Jason's basement.
Amy maintains that Eddie is not a person, but Jason doesn't feel it's
right what they're doing. When Amy spills a few drops of Eddie's
blood into a thimble and offers it to Jason, he refuses to drink it.
However, after Amy downs her share and goes into ecstasy, Jason
drinks his share, and the two of them make love right in front of
Eddie, but not before thanking him for the gift that he has bestowed
upon them. Later, as Jason is watching Nan Flanagan, spokesperson for
the American Vampire League, assure the world that the vampire
community will not retaliate for the three vampire killings in
northern Louisiana this week, Eddie starts to howl. He is getting
weaker and weaker and asks that Jason sit him up in the lounge chair
because it's causing him pain. Jason repositions him, and the two of
them get into a conversation. Now that Amy is working at Merlotte's,
Jason finds himself spending more and more time with Eddie, chatting
about their lives. He even brings home some TruBlood for Eddie.

Arlene is busy showing off her ring to everyone in Merlotte's.
Sam offers to shut down the bar for one night in order to allow her
to throw an engagement party. On the television,

Miss Jeanette agrees to perform an exorcism on Tara but for a
price of $799.95, because her demon is much more powerful and
dangerous than the demon in Lettie Mae. When Sam brings flowers to
Tara and tries to apologize for whatever he said the other day that
got her so upset, they get into another fight. Tara tells Sam that
she's beginning to believe she has a demon inside but doesn't have
the $800 to pay for the exorcism. When Tara reports for work that
evening, she finds an envelope stuffed with $800 in her cubby. She
tries to return it to Sam, but he refuses to take it back.

The next evening, Bill's doorbell rings. He opens it to find
Eric, Pam, and Longshadow's replacement, Chow, waiting to talk to
him. It appears that Bill is going to have to stand trial for killing
Longshadow. Before he lets them take him away, Bill insists on
stopping at Merlotte's to tell Sookie that he needs to face a
tribunal. Sookie begs to come with him so that she can testify for
him, but he refuses to allow it, telling her that she wouldn't be
welcome there. Before he leaves, Bill asks Sam to watch over and
protect Sookie, because he knows that Sam is the only one who can. Of
course, Sam agrees.

Sookie happens to oversee Sam kissing Tara in a romantic manner
and decides that she needs to get out of there. She asks Amy to cover
for her and assures her that she'll be alright because she's going to
stay at Bill's place where no one will be looking for her. When Sam
returns to the bar after "talking" with Tara, he asks where Sookie
has gone. Amy tells him about Bill's, but just as Sam is about to go
after Sookie, Andy Bellefleur stops him, wanting to talk about the
"naturist" story that didn't check out. Sam says that he forgot
something in the bar and promises to come right back. As Andy waits,
the stray border collie runs past him. Minutes later, as Sookie
drives up to Bill's house, the dog is there waiting for her. Sookie
welcomes him inside for the night and decides to call him "Dean."
Dean climbs in bed with her, sleeping at the foot. During the night,
Sookie wakes up because Dean is laying on her feet. She looks down to
see him and, instead, sees a naked Sam. They both scream.

Summary of "I Don't Wanna Know"
Episode 1.10 of TRUE BLOOD

New Characters
Magister .................... Zeljko Ivanek
Jessica Hamby ............ Deborah All Woll

When Sookie wakes up to find Sam lying buck-naked at her feet,
she panics, assuming that he is the killer. She races into the shower
and grabs a backscrubber for protection. Dean the dog appears in her
doorway and, before her eyes, turns back into Sam. Sam reveals that
he is a shapeshifter. As he talks about his condition, Sookie learns
that shapeshifting is a hereditary condition, so he probably came
from a family of shifters, except that he was adopted so he didn't
know his real parents. He also explains that he can shift into other
shapes, such as a cat, but to do it, he needs a live model, such as
the real collie that hangs around the bar. Unfortunately, it wears
off when he sleeps, and he can't stop the transformation during the
full moon. When Sookie likens him to a werewolf, Sam gets indignant
and says that werewolves are dangerous, nasty creatures and resents
being called one. Sookie wonders whether it could have been a
werewolf that killed Gran. Later, as Sam is hanging lanterns on the
patio for Arlene's engagement party, he flashes back to his adoptive
parents and the day that he first shifted. It started almost like a
seizure. He got up off the floor and ran outside, peeling off his
shirt. As his mother watched, he transformed into a replica of the
family dog. One day, when he was 15 years old, Sam came home from
school and found that the family had packed up and moved away,
leaving only him and his belongings behind. Sam has been alone ever
since.

Tara undergoes her exorcism. Miss Jeanette first spits in her
hand, then she adds angelica root and tells Tara to smear it on her
face, especially around the eyes...the doorways to the demon. Tara
then drinks "snake juice", not made from snakes but from a juice that
coils around her insides and rousts out the demon. She begins to
quiver and feel sick to her stomach. As Miss J calls for the demon to
come forth, Tara has a vision of herself as a young girl. Miss J
explains that the demon will take on any form in order to stay alive
and that, to purge it from herself, Tara must slay it. Miss J hands
Tara a knife, and Tara plunges it into the demon. After the exorcism,
Tara goes home and informs Lettie Mae that the exorcism worked. To
celebrate, they decide to drive over to Mamaw's Mudbugs in Keachi.

It is Amy's turn to take care of Eddie. She taps the vein in his
arm, not caring how much it hurts him in his weakened condition.
"We're all just a single living being," she tells him, "but you are
NOT." When she goes to get tape to stabilize his IV, she discovers
Jason's stash of TruBlood bottles, and realizes that Jason has been
feeding Eddie behind her back. Lying is not something she wants to be
a part of their relationship, she says. When Jason comes home, Amy
does an about face from her previous stance. She suggests that they
try to make Eddie feel more comfortable, e.g., provide him with
TruBlood and a television. She explains to Jason that she wants to
make Eddie feel like part of the family so that he will willingly
stay with them, like a pet. Eddie isn't buying it, however. He warns
Jason that Amy is a psychopath and intends to kill him when they
can't use him anymore. Jason is not convinced.

After two buckets of crayfish, Lettie Mae is feeling a bit sick
to her stomach. Tara stops at a drugstore to buy some Pepto. She asks
for help from the clerk. When the clerk turns to face her, Tara
recognizes her immediately, even under the wig and glasses. It's Miss
Jeanette, although her name tag reads "Nancy". Tara lights into her
for ripping off both her mother and herself with her spit and poison.
"It was just Ipecac syrup and small amount of peyote," Miss J admits.
She explains that she has a son in prison, one in Iraq, a daughter
with diabetes, and three grandchildren to support. She reminds Tara
that, so long as Lettie Mae remains sober, the exorcism worked.
"Faith is a powerful thing," she says. Tara grunts and runs out the
door. "They're out," she tells her mother when she asks for the Pepto.

Come evening, Arlene's party is in full swing, except that
Sookie can't quite bring herself to have fun without Bill being there
and knowing what she knows about Sam. Tara shows up drunk and picks
another fight with Sam when he won't have sex with her. In a snit,
she takes off in her car. As she is driving along the road, she
swerves to avoid a naked woman and a huge pig, and her car crashes
through a fence. In need of more "Eddie juice," Lafayette pays him a
visit, only to find the front door wide open and no Eddie. He notices
a cellphone lying on the floor and recognizes it as belonging to
Jason, so he shows up at the party and accuses Jason of opening his
mouth, thinking that the vampires have killed Eddie and now they're
going to be looking for him. Jason and Amy go home, fighting over
what to do about Eddie. Jason has decided to set Eddie free. As he
starts to loosen Eddie's binds. Amy picks up an old fencepost and
rams it through Eddie's chest. Sookie goes into the bar to get more
ice for the party. Suddenly the lights go out, and Sookie is aware of
someone's thoughts of murdering Maudette, Dawn, and some other girl.
In an attempt to flee, she runs straight into Sam's arms.

Meanwhile, Bill is facing the tribunal of vampires, run by the
high Magister (the adjudicator for every vampire territory in North
America) out of the back of a pickup. Bill is charged with killing a
vampire to save his human pet, a serious breach of vampire law.
However, Eric points out that 1) Sookie was at Fangtasia because he
called her, 2) Sookie exposed the vampire that was stealing from
Eric, and 3) Bill is generally obedient to his sheriff. Although the
usual punishment for killing a vampire is five years in a coffin
bound with silver chains, the Magister decides that he's going to be
"creative." He rules that Bill owes the vampires a life, so he
produces a human woman and orders Bill to turn her. At first, Bill
refuses. When it looks like he has no choice, he tries to glamour
Jessica so that she won't be afraid, but the Magister forbids the use
of glamor. Asking for her forgiveness, Sam bites down on Jessica's
neck.

Summary of "To Love is to Bury"
Episode 1.11 of TRUE BLOOD

New Characters
Maryann Forrester ......... Michelle Forbes
Senator David Finch ........... John Prosky

After biting Jessica and feeding her with his blood, Bill buries
her. Pam watches in order to assure that Bill doesn't stake Jessica
before she "goes to ground." Bill jumps in the grave with Jessica,
and Pam starts piling on the dirt, assuring Bill that tomorrow
evening, Jessica will rise as a vampire.

The next morning, Sookie remembers that the unnamed girl in the
mind of the killer was wearing a uniform and had a waitress' name tag
reading "Cindy" from "Big Patty's Pie House" near Bunkie. Sookie and
Sam pay a visit to Patty's and learn that Cindy was indeed murdered
and that the primary suspect was her brother, Drew Marshall. First
stop is the police station to request a photo of Drew Marshall.
Sookie reads the mind of the policeman and uses his affairs to force
him to fax a copy of Drew Marshall's photo to the Bon Temps Sheriff
station.

Jason and Amy are stuck with cleaning up after Eddie's demise.
Jason has serious doubts about Amy. She claims that she destroyed
Eddie because he was already dead, he was a predator, and he was
controlling Jason's mind, but Jason knows that Eddie wasn't evolved
enough to know how to glamor. Jason issues Amy an ultimatum. No more
vampire blood or Amy can pack her bags and go. He goes off to work
wondering whether he'll ever see Amy again. Terry and Rene notice his
hangdog face and ask what's the problem. For the first time, Jason
confesses to them that Amy is into V-blood. Rene has a date with
Arlene that night but promises to help him find a solution tomorrow
night. Jason comes home that evening to find that Amy has cooked him
a candlelight dinner, and they end up in each others' arms. Amy
promises to throw out all the V. Jason promises never to get mad at
her again.

Sam has been trying to reach Tara, but she's not answering her
cell. After being picked up for drunken driving last night when she
swerved to avoid the naked woman and pig, Tara was taken to jail. She
tried to call her mother for bail money, but Lessie Mae refused and
kicked Tara out of the house. After spending the day in jail, Tara is
set free when Maryann Forrester pays her bail. When Maryann finds out
that Tara has no place to go, she invites her to stay with her until
she can get herself straightened out. Tara is duly impressed at the
mansion in which Maryann lives, but she seems to be straight and
really trying to help, so Tara agrees to move in with her.

Lafayette was angered when he heard a news broadcast in which
State Senator David Finch was speaking to the Marthaville Order of
Visionary Southern Gentlemen as he embarks on his campaign for
re-election. "Equal rights for vampires?," he expounds. "No vampire,
and none of these vampire loving deviates [and homosexuals], deserve
any rights at all." Since Finch is going to be appearing at the
Remington Hotel in Monroe that evening, Lafayette dresses up in a
fine suit and goes down to shake his hand, covertly reminding the
fine Senator of the promises he made previously to the gay community
and how the consequences can be dire if those promises aren't kept.

Jason learns that Amy saved one drop so that she could "close
the circle." She starts to down the drop, but then decides to share
it with Jason "for the last time." While they are off in their V
induced dream worlds, someone wearing heavy brown boots comes into
the house and strangles Amy as she sleeps next to Jason in their bed.
When he awakens to find Amy dead, Jason summons 911, is arrested by
Andy Bellefleur, and hauled off to jail. Although Jason is becoming
convinced that he's the one killing the women -- first Maudette, then
Dawn, and now Amy -- he still has no memory of doing it nor any
reason to want to kill them. However, before he can hurt anyone else,
Jason agrees to being locked up. Andy is happy to oblige.

That evening, Jessica comes crawling out of the ground, and Bill
attempts to explain to her what happened. When it finally dawns on
Jessica what being a vampire means -- "No more Mama and Daddy? No
more little sister...?" -- Bill expresses his sorrow for her
condition, until she adds, "No more belts, no more clarinets, no more
home school, no more rules," and throws up her hands in glee. When it
becomes evident that Jessica is hellbent on her new freedom to kill
and refuses to obey anything Bill says, he takes her to see Erik. At
first, Erik is reluctant to help Bill deal with his fledgling. After
Bill points out that he (and Sookie) would be in his debt, Erik
agrees to take on the task of teaching her how to feed like a real
vampire.

After spending the day together, Sookie and Sam express to each
how much they enjoyed each others' company that day. Just as they
start to kiss, Bill bursts in the door, fangs bared, and leaps at
Sam. Sookie screams at them both to stop, but Bill continues to hit
on Sam. Already angry at Bill for leaving her with no promise of ever
returning and now for his attack on the one man trying to protect her
in his absence, Sookie rescinds Bill's invitation into her home and
kicks him out, closing the door in his face.

As Andy leads Jason to a cell, a fax can be seen coming in from
Bunkie PD showing a photo of Drew Marshall. The face is that of Rene
Lenier.

Summary of "You'll Be the Death of Me"
Episode 1.12 of TRUE BLOOD

New Characters
Orry Dawson ................. Michael Bofshever
Benedict "Eggs" Tally ....... Mehcad Brooks

Jason is certain that he's never going to be a free man again,
so he's asked Rene to see to it that Hoyt gets his "lucky" leather
jacket. Sookie will get the house, of course, and he wants Rene to
have his truck. Rene agrees, but only until they release Jason. After
all, he hasn't done anything really bad...only killed a few
fangbangers. Jason takes offense at Rene calling Gran a fangbanger,
just as Sookie storms the jail demanding to see Jason. After hugging
each other through the bars, Sookie advises Jason not to confess to
nor say anything, because she's close to finding out who the real
killer is. She thinks that it might be this guy Drew Marshall, whom
she thinks probably also killed his sister Cindy. Meanwhile, Rene is
listening to everything Sookie says.

Tara wakes up in a plush bedroom to find a robe carefully laid
out for her. She is served breakfast by a servant and joined by
Maryann, who tries to convince Tara that all the bad things happening
to her might just be a way of clearing out the things in her life
that aren't working and giving her new opportunities. Sam continues
his attempts to reach Tara on her cell but, unknown to Tara, the
servant has pocketed her phone. After a swim in the pool and a bite
to eat from the lavish buffet, she meets a young man strumming on his
guitar. He introduces himself as Benedict "Eggs" Tally. They get to
talking, and Eggs admits that he was in even worse shape than Tara
when Maryann found him. He refers to her as "a miracle worker", but
Tara is still concerned that Maryann might be "Satan in a Sunday
hat." He tells her, "Sometimes good shit happens" and continues to
softly play his guitar. Tara starts to relax a little. Meanwhile,
Maryann sits outside on a lawn chair with her pig nearby. She has her
eyes closed and seems to be vibrating.

While Jason "rots" in jail, he receives a visit from Orry
Dawson, a representative from the Fellowship of the Sun. Dawson
convinces Jason that killing those women, while not condonable by the
Church, was actually a service to his race and to Jesus. In fact, the
Church has started up a defense fund for him.

At Merlotte's, Sookie has decided to work the lunch shift rather
than hiding from the public, but people's thoughts start getting to
her. Sam suggests that Sookie go lie down in his trailer, but Sookie
decides that she wants to go for a drive alone. She promises to keep
the car doors locked, so Sam agrees to take over her tables.
Unfortunately, the car won't start. Rene offers to take a look but
says that he can't figure it out (while looking directly at the cut
distributor wires). Rene offers to give Sookie a ride home and to
stay with her until Sam gets off work. On the way, Rene tries to hide
his thoughts from Sookie, but she tells him not to bother. Everyone
tries that but they always start thinking again. She does find it
odd, however, that Rene's thoughts don't have his Cajun accent.

Meanwhile, Arlene walks into the living room to find her two
kids, Coby and Lisa, watching a sex tape of a vampire making it with
Maudette. When asked where they got the tape, they tell her that it's
Rene's tape and that they found it in the garage in a box with some
other videotapes. She looks through the tapes and notices one
entitled, "Cajun Dialect for Actors." Back at Merlotte's, Lafayette
notices that Rene left behind his work vest. When he tosses it to Sam
to put in the Lost and Found, Sam gets a whiff of the scent and
recognizes it as the same scent he found on Dawn's sheets the night
that she was murdered. Now realizing that the killer is Rene, Sam
races outside looking for Sookie. Terry tells him that he saw her
driving away with Rene about 20 minutes ago. Sam jumps in his car and
heads for Sookie's house.

Rene and Sookie have reached the house. She goes into the
kitchen to make some iced tea while he walks around the house turning
on the ceiling fans. Just as Sookie finishes pouring the tea and goes
to put the pitcher in the refrigerator, Rene walks into the kitchen.
Sookie gets a strong vision of Rene as the one who killed Gran, all
the while shouting, "You weren't supposed to be here!" Sookie drops
the pitcher on the floor and whirls around. Trying to feign calmness,
Sookie goes to get a mop. Rene follows her into the living room,
where Sookie suddenly grabs a shotgun propped against the fireplace.
Unfortunately, Rene has seen it first and removed the shells, so
Sookie clobbers him in the head with the butt and runs outside,
heading for the cemetery between her house and Bill's. While running,
Sookie sees it all in her head -- how Rene killed Cindy, then
Maudette, Dawn, and Amy.

Sookie takes refuge in a freshly-dug grave. Rene walks around
looking for her and calling out, "I was only kidding." In the
meantime, Sookie can hear his thoughts about what he's going to do to
her when he finds her. Rene finally gives up and starts to walk away,
so Sookie ventures a peek only to find Rene standing right over her.
He pulls her out of the grave and starts slugging and strangling her.
Meanwhile, Bill can hear Sookie's cries for help as he lay in his
coffin. Braving the mid-afternoon sun, Bill stumbles outside, the
sunlight already raising angry blisters on his face and hands. As
Bill lumbers as quickly as he can, his hair now all burned off, Sam
the dog comes racing in from the other direction. Sam leaps at Rene,
but Rene knocks him to the ground, starts kicking him, and is
astounded to see that he's kicking a naked Sam Merlotte. This angers
him even more. While Rene keeps kicking, Sookie picks up a shovel and
whacks him with it, knocking him to the ground. Rene grabs her ankle
and tries to pull her down with him, so Sookie applies the shovel to
his neck, almost decapitating him.

Only now does Sookie notice Bill's body lying in the grass,
smoldering, his skin charred black, his features almost
unrecognizable. He apologizes for not getting there in time. As
Sookie stands there crying, Sam covers Bill by burying him in the
open grave.

A few hours, Sookie wakes from a nap on the couch to find Sam,
Tara, and Lafayette sitting around her. Her face is badly bruised,
and Sookie is looped out on pain medications, but she tells Tara and
Lafayette how Sam burned into a dog and saved her. Of course, no one
believes her. Arlene rushes in with a bouquet of flowers, crying and
apologizing profusely for not seeing it in Rene. Lafayette decides to
go back to Merlotte's to check out his clam chowder. Tara tells Sam
that she hasn't gotten his last five messages but that she's glad he
was there to save Sookie. Tara leaves just as Maryann drives up in
her car. Tara introduces Sam to Maryann. When Tara is out of earshot,
Sam asks Maryann what she's doing here. In response, Maryann wonders
how Sam wouldn't know that she would find him.

The D.A. drops the charges against Jason when they find that the
marks on Amy's neck match Rene's belt. Sheriff Dearbourne orders Andy
to set Jason free. Reluctantly, Andy complies. Back at Merlotte's,
Lafayette takes out the garbage. Something suddenly comes flying at
him. Later, after Sookie is up and around and Jason has returned
home, Bill shows up at the door, fully recovered. He tells Sookie
that he has fed, and Sookie invites him in. They hug, and Bill offers
to let her drink his blood so that she will heal quickly, but Sookie
refuses on grounds that she wants to feel "human" right now. They
kiss and kiss and kiss.

Two weeks pass. Sookie's bruises are looking better, and she's
returned to work at Merlotte's. Sookie, Tara, Sam, Arlene, and some
of the other patrons are listening to a news report about the state
of Vermont legalizing marriage between a human and a vampire. Arlene
gleefully says that Sookie and Bill can now get married. Sam
sarcastically offers to throw a wedding party, which shouldn't cost
that much since vampires don't eat or drink. A couple kegs of
TruBlood would do it along with a few vampire decorations. To Tara,
he wonders where Lafayette might be, since he hasn't been around, and
Sam is about to give away Lafayette's job. Tara doesn't know, but
reminds him that Lafayette once went to Marthaville for the night and
showed up go-go dancing in Palm Beach eight months later.

Jason shows up at a Fellowship of the Sun church, attending
services and yelling his amens and hallelulahs as the preacher
inspires the parishioners to do God's work by bringing God's light,
the sun, down on each and every "bloodsucking abomination." While
Andy Bellefleur drowns his ego in shots of the strong stuff and
Sookie serves beer and hamburgers to the customers, Bill receives a
visit from Erik and Pam. They have returned Jessica to him because
they find her "extremely annoying." Erik says that the only way
they'll take her back is if Bill gives them Sookie, too, and that
after a few nights with Jessica, Bill might just be willing to do
that. Back at Merlotte's, it's closing time. Sookie comes to realize
that Andy is both drunk and feeling like a low-down failure, so she
calls his sister to pick him up and calls him "Detective" Bellefleur
for the first time. Meanwhile, Sam is loading all the money from his
safe into a plastic bag. Not wanting to wait for his sister, Andy
goes out to the parking lot looking for his car. Sookie and Tara
follow, trying to get his keys. When Andy opens the door to his car,
a foot with red painted toenails falls out. Tara and Sookie start
screaming.
