The more we keep thinking about vampire movies that we have enjoyed, the more I am dismayed that I've forgotten to mention the series of Dracula movies made by the great Christopher Lee.

For example, 'Horror of Dracula' (1958), 'Dracula: Prince of Darkness (1966), 'Dracula Has Risen from the Grave (1968), 'Taste the Blood of Dracula' (1970) 'Dracula A.D. (1972), and 'The Satanic Rites of Dracula' (1973).

I can't say that all of them were favorites. I liked the first two or three but, when they started to get into the satanic stuff, I lost interest.

I'm aware that Bram Stoker wrote that Dracula studied at the Scholomance and was supposedly chosen by the Devil as the tenth scholar but, for some reason, satanic Draculas just put me off.

Speaking of Christopher Lee, who played Dracula in all those Hammer movies, Lee also played Dracula in the non-Hammer movie, "Count Dracula', directed by Jesus Franco.

It's said that Franco tried to remain faithful to Stoker's story but ran out of money, so this 'true' adaptation became a rush-rush job, particularly at the end. Still, it is a nice version of the Dracula legend, and Klaus Kinski was great as the fly-eating Renfield.

Kinski also played Dracula in 'Nosferatu - Phantom der Nacht' , a 1979 remake of the original 1922 'Nosferatu', which featured Max Schreck as the vampire Count Orlock.

By the way, I hear that there is a a remake of 'Nosferatu' coming out in 2024. If it makes it to Wisconsin cinemas, you can bet that I'll be there to see it, snow or no snow.
