Hello all,
I have been checking rental car rates for my stay the first week of March and
Thrifty is by far the cheapest. Alamo who I normally use in Las Vegas is twice
as high. Has anyone ever used Thrifty? How was it? Any Suggestions?
Thanks in advance
John

There for awhile I was using Thrifty, and I never had any problems. My last
few trips I have used Alamo because they have been the cheapest.
For the last couple years I've just been going to Cheapovegas.com and clicking
on the car rental link and the prices have been good to great. It just so
happens that Alamo has been the cheapest for the dates I've needed.

I don't know about Thrifty, but have you tried Dollar? They are
usually always the cheapest. About $15 -$20 a day for an economy car.

At the moment Thrifty seems to be the cheapest when I am going and I think they
are located inside the airport wich is a plus and in other cities costs more.

The Thrifty rental lot is out on Warm Springs road. This is further
away than even the Alamo lot. That having been said. The shuttle ride
isn't too bad and Thrifty has okay service.

Yep it's the quickest way to Thrifty but
they don't have the meter running on those free shuttles.
Maybe someone can figure a way to catch the free shuttle
to thrifty and get a cab to finish the ride, You could probably
trim a few bucks off the cab fare to silverton <BG>.

I thought the rental desk was in the airport?

Do you have a Sam's Club card?
If so, you can get the Sam's club discount at Alamo.

EMAIL me and I'll give you the rate code and ID number that Sam's club members
may use.

Also when checking rates on the Alamo site, trying using rate code "YQ". A
reservation agent from Alamo once told me the "YQ" rates are among the best
besides the Sam's Club discount.

Also, keep checking the rates as your trip gets closer, ours went down about
ten bucks and I just rebooked. No problem.

Yes but you still have to ride out to Warm Springs to actually get

The plus of the rental desk in the airport is that someone can take care of
that stuff while waiting for the luggage. Same with the hotel check-in's at the
airport.

I'm from england and i am thinking of renting whilst in LV can you tell me
if i should take out CDW or any other insurance?
Do any card payments ( eg amex) include this as a free extra?
Thanks in advance
David

Amex Gold will cover the CDW.

Yup and it seems not all AMEX platinum cards have CDW. An AMEX rep
told me the Costco one doesn't. I'd call your credit card companies
and ask them to send you the latest printed statement of coverage and
features.

I assume your UK insurance does not cover US driving? Also, have you
done much left-side steering and driving on the "wrong" side of the
road?

I had a little bit of a problem with Dollar in November. I waited in line
for 25 minutes to fill out the paperwork then took the shuttle to pickup the
car. Upon arrival we discovered there were no cars available with abot 20
people waiting ahead of us. As they brought cars out of the carwash people
would get in them right away. It was very disorganized. It took about 20
minutes to get our intermediate (Toyota Camry). Fortunately most people were
waiting for compacts or full sized so we moved up pretty quick in the
line....Ray

I went a couple of years ago and drove to VOF and RRC but cant remember if i
got CDW - I probably paid the extra for it.
As i remember it was fun to drive "on the wrong side" and i had no problems.
