Hello,
I'd like to know the experiences of others regarding car rentals for
people under 25. I am going to Las Vegas March 14-18. I would like
to rent a car. I am 24 years old. My fiancee is 24 as well though
she will be about 2 weeks shy of 25 years old.

I know that most places charge huge surcharges for individuals under
25. Are there anyways to bypass this? If not, who has the cheapest
surcharges and base rates? I've checked most of the standard
websites, but the surcharges are often 50%-100% of the rental rate.

I read in another group that Enterprise didn't charge the surcharge
when they rented under 25 in Seattle. Not sure it applies here, but I
thought I'd point it out.

I also read that being a member of Southwest Rapid Rewards program
could avoid the surcharge at Dollar but I check with them using their
online chat to no avail.

I have an American Express Business Credit Card if that could help at
all.

Thanks,
Jonathan

I have found that only a few companies will even rent to "kids" under 25 to
begin with. Dollar and Thrifty will...Avis and Hertz will not. I too am under
25 and have paid up to $20 extra per day. It sucks! My only advice is to
budget extra money for that.

Many years ago I was able to rent a car through Enterprise while being under
the age of 25 w/o any extra costs. Sounds as if that policy still exists.
Nice to know that there is one company out there who sees a some what
tappable market.

I think Enterprise does have tack on the extra fee for those < 25 years of
age.

You mention you have an AMEX 'Business Card'? Why don't you rent through
your company? When I was under 25, I could always rent under my Company's
Contract rate and not get hit with the 'extra' fees due to my age.

There is nothing in the Constitution that prohibits anyone of any age from
renting a car.

Why don't you call Enterprise and ask?

On the up-side, if you can't find a good deal on a rental car, you
can get along fine in Vegas without one. I usuaully visit Vegas with
friends about two times a year and rarely do I find a need to have a
car while I am there.

Its all about insurance. The company who rents to people under 25 pays higher
insurance rates.
