Anyways we found ourselves wandering through many properties on
Wednesday, doing quick hits at as many video poker bars as possible
(the round bar at Mirage has some of the worst VP I've ever seen btw)
when we passed by the Revolution Lounge and decided to stop at the
front bar and have a drink. I ordered a glass of Remy VSOP and my
better half had a Kettle Dirty Martini.
The martini was $14
Any guesses on how much the 2 oz. glass of Remy cost?
(as a point of reference, I paid $38 for a medium sized bottle of Remy
VSOP - about the size of a bottle of wine.)
I'll guess $25.
Strip prices for drinks are pretty stupid, unless you're getting $1
Michelobs/margaritas at Casino Royale.

But you were gambling. I don't get it. If you sit down at a bar
and start playing VP, aren't the drinks supposed to be free?
Heck, I play penny video poker and order Long Island Ice Teas.
Worked great at Mandalay Bay. Was playing a William Tell penny
machine just screwing around, and kept hitting the bonus round. Made
$200 on that one, then gave most of it back trying to hit the big
jackpot on Wheel of Fortune.
My guess is free because you were lucky enough to be in Vegas at the same
time as Walt and you got the FOW* special just like BR got moved at his
show.

Sorry if this was confusing. We were gambling at the Mirage but we
stopped by the Revolution Lounge (no machines there). I doubt they'd
comp Remy VSOP to a 50c VP player anyhow.

Ok ok. I wanted this thread to have a decent life but I'll let it go
since there's really no point in it extending it any further.
Revolution lounge list price - $20.
Maybe not that astonishing but a little extreme in my opinion,
especially when you consider I paid $8 for the same thing at Golden
Nugget a few days earlier.
Probably the most hysterical thing - he tried to upsell me an XO. I
almost bit but figured it would be pretty pricey.
On the positive side, the drinks were excellent and a great time was
had by all.

Like I said: Strip prices for drinks are stupid.
Looks like I was over, though. ;)

Outrageous liquor prices was the final nail in the coffin of the Strip
that caused the 'Hogs to move Sporgy downtown. Buckets of Coronas at
the Plaza were $10 all day long last trip. Back in '07, Harrah's
charged them $50 for 2 buckets of Bud Light. Yeah, $10 7&7s & $17
bloody marys are enough to drive anyone away from the Strip.
Cameron
I've paid $100 for a "free drink" at the VP bar. Makes those $20
drinks at the Revolution seem cheap!
Note my post today about the Doug Elfman column.

The only bar that comps video poker players in the Mirage is the Sports Bar
by California Pizza Kitchen. The other will not. You could play max credits
all day long and not get a comp from the bartender at any of the other bars
like Kokomo bar. I was really hoping this would have been done away with by
now, next thing you know they will stop comping slot and table players

I'm one of those that really like the strip. You just have to know
what to order and where to order it. It is much easier with just my
wife and I, as compared to the Sporgy Group.
I really don't mind taking advantage of us each slipping a $20 into a
VP machine, and not playing until the bartender comes around, then hit
5 coins, and slow play while he/she's watching, order a drink and cash
out. Of course I always leave a nice tip. The bartender doesn't get
stiffed and neither does the hotel in reality, as I usually gamble
there.
Kurt
Even slipping a 20.00 in at the Kokomo Bar in Mirage won't get you a drink.
I also heard Wynn won't comp bar top players
Cameron

Or where to go. I've been out clubbing on the Strip with $4 wells, $5
cover.
That being said, yes, they will try and stick Strip tourists with
stupid drink prices if you're not careful.
Also, VP at 7-5 (pretty typical for Strip bartop) can make your drinks
pretty expensive pretty quickly.
Rob "Fancypants" Taylor
Or $2.25 16oz. Bud/light bottles at Bill's

Wow. If this is true then I got really lucky because this is the only
bar we played at.
Mitch,
Guess how much a dinner for 9 hungry guys at the 777 Brewpub cost (minus the
tip)?
We had 4 appetizers, 5 pitchers of beer and 9 entrees.
When we first came to Las Vegas we were enthralled by the glitz and the
glamour, but we were also made to feel like a prized possession at every
property we stayed at. Now, it's all in the hands of the bean counters and
they are trying to figure out how to extract the most amount of money from
their "target" at every single possible transaction. For the most part, the
strip is all about this mentality (there are still exceptions, but you have
to look hard) Is that good business? Some say it is, especially the
accountants.
But I'll tell you every one of those 9 guys was blown away by the quality of
food, service and surroundings at the 777. But what they will all remember
most is the value. After a great weekend downtown finding gems like this
treating each customer like a prized possession, every one of these guys
will consider staying downtown first when coming to Las Vegas again.
As for my guess at your drink price, I bet that you paid the same amount for
your one drink that we paid for 4 pitchers of beer at the 777. Hope there
was at least some eye-candy to go along with it.

My fiancee and I stayed at MSS for the first two nights of our trip
and had a good time. Now what I'm about to say might not be too
popular here but here it goes - We had two mediocre experiences at
777. We have been several times in the past and always enjoyed it but
something was different this trip. Our first visit we enjoyed the
service from Theresa and the food was just ok. I wasn't in the mood
for a heavy meal having just got into town so I tried the Oriental
Chicken Salad based on Theresa's rec. It was comparable to
Applebees.
The Brewmaster's Reserve is a Black Cherry brew and we both decided to
try it based on our pleasant experience with Kriek during a recent
trip to Belgium. Theresa warned us that there had been a lot of
complaints so she brought us samples. Horrid.
Our second visit we just had some apps and a few pale ales and we had
an enjoyable time despite the fact that the bar doesn't carry NBA TV
so we couldn't watch the Cavs game I had $50 on.
After our $20 food comp I think our total bill for both meals was like
$19 + tips. Amazingly cheap yet we left somewhat unsatisfied both
times (and I'm not real hard to please). I don't want to speak for BR
but he did mention that he had a less than stellar experience at 777
as well.
> As for my guess at your drink price, I bet that you paid the same amount for
> your one drink that we paid for 4 pitchers of beer at the 777.
I've never needed to order a pitcher at 777 but I'd be shocked if it
cost $20, I'd guess half that.
>Hope there was at least some eye-candy to go along with it.
We were the only people there and the bartender was a dude. Unreal.
> Guess how much a dinner for 9 hungry guys at the 777 Brewpub cost (minus the

Forgot this part. I think I read this in your report but I can't
remember. A wild guess...$180 (but $20 a person seems high).
It's not as bad as you might think - you are giving up about 3.4% (vs
9/6). On a quater machine, playing fast (but not superfast), that's
about $25/hour. At a slow pace, you are giving up more like $10/hour.
To me, it makes no sense to play for the purpose of getting "free"
drinks. For the cost of your tips, you could just by a bottle or 6-
pack and down it in your room. But if you are going to play anyway -
and you want to drink a lot - moving to bartops isn't that bad a deal.

Pretty good guess. It was $165. Sorry about your poor experiences there. I
will admit being disappointed the second time I tried their cherry stout.
The first year I tried it it was very good, but the following year it was
absolutely terrible, so I've stuck with the Marker Pale Ale which seems to
be consistently good. The boys enjoyed the Royal Red Lager, but I'm not a
fan of the style myself.
When we go to Brewpubs like this we normally stick to pub fare and try not
venture into Oriental salads and such. Stick with meat and potato dishes and
you'll be fine. I've never been a big nachos fan, but their version with
sirloin, black bean chili and four cheeses is pretty darned good.

Reminds me of the time my family went out to a steakhouse. So what
does mother decide to order? Halibut! And, shock of shocks, it
wasn't very good. Ma, you're at a steakhouse! You order steak at a
steakhouse, end of story! When you go to Colonel Sanders, you order
fried chicken; when you go to Dairy Queen, you order ice cream; when
you go to A&W, you order a root beer, etc...
Cameron
Yeah, but I've had Strip bartenders ask me to be playing at 50 cents
or a dollar (max coins) to get the drink comped, along with the stupid
paytable. Add the variance in, and it's not that unusual for a $20 to
get eaten pretty quick. Uh-oh. There went your free drink.
Incidentally, MSS's bartop poker? 9/6 JOB. I'm also partial to their
Hefe (though I actually like Ellis Island's better- and it's pretty
easy to find full pay VP there as well... or you could BUY a pint for
$1).

For what it's worth - it was the piece of chicken on top of the salad
that wasn't too impressive.
All I'm saying is that the last few times we've gone I haven't seen
anything that distinguishes 777 from say, TGI Fridays (except for the
beer). I still like the vibe of the place and I'll continue to go
every time we're in town.
You obviously haven't had the prime rib there.
Cameron

Guilty as charged.
I, too, thought the food there was typical TGI Firdays/Applebee's
fare, until I saw the prime rib. My sis-in-law ordered it & when they
brought it out, it looked frickin' delicious. She told me it was very
good. Ever since then, if I'm @ the 777 after 4 PM, I always order
the prime rib.
Cameron
Cameron
Cameron,
Joe's dad says the Prime Rib was the highlight of his Monday night and
wanted me to thank you for the recommendation! Of course he bet on the
Cardinals along with the rest of us!
> fried chicken; when you go to Dairy Queen, you order ice cream; when

I'm sorry, but when I was growing up in Peoria, when you went to A&W
you ordered a chili dog or a pork tenderloin, AND a root beer.
Jerry
Well, yeah, but you still ordered the root beer! That's the important
thing!
Cameron
He is more than welcome. That meal, for less than $10, is truly a
bargain.

That FOW Special that BR got is so special that even Walt didn't get
it. Apparently you must be a friend and not the guy himself.
