Having moved here a few weeks back, Vicki and I have been trying to find a
"comfortable-type" bar/lounge and restaurant that matches our own
personality. We've tried the nearby Green Valley Ranch on several occasions
and were "underwhelmed" with a lack of ambiance and the low level of energy
in their buffet and bar personnel. In fact, I've considered calling 911 to
report the demise of the folks at the buffet and cash registers, but my dear
wife swears that they're alive. . . just in suspended animation. <grin>

Today, we decided to give the Fiesta Henderson a try. Being Easter and
arriving at 12:15p were two distinct disadvantages when it came to large
numbers of people. However, the line to the buffet moved approximately
three times faster than Green Valley Ranch. My wife uses an electric
scooter, so our "technique" is for me to stand in the line while she waits
nearby, with me motioning to her when we're to be seated. At Green Valley
Ranch, no staff has ever motioned her through straight to the cashier.
However, at Fiesta, the seater noticed Vicki waiting along a wall and
motioned her over. They located me in the line and we were immediately
taken to the cashier and subsequently seated. This was nothing I had
requested, but was certainly appreciated. In addition, the lady told Vicki
to ALWAYS just approach the exit to the buffet and she would be seated
immediately in her wheelchair.

Are other buffets like this, or like the Green Valley Ranch one?

The food at Fiesta Henderson was swell, with crab legs, shrimp, several
species of fish prepared in different manners, and a wide selection of
different ethnic foods, including eggs benedict and cordon bleu. The food
quality and preparation were excellent, we felt. The dessert bar was far
larger than GVR, also, and while it didn't have hand dipped ice cream, there
were numerous toppings for the serve yourself soft ice cream.

We also noticed that the waitress and staff were friendly, talkative and
helpful. Our server even offered to go get food for Vicki, if Vicki wanted.
At Green Valley Ranch, we had to almost trip someone to get water, spoons
and drinks.

I'd say that the socioeconomic level of the Fiesta Henderson patrons was
probably below that of Green Valley Ranch, but so were the prices. The
place was immaculate, the decor was festive and we saw a LOT of folks
smiling, chatting and having a good time. We'll definitely go back there.

As you grow accustomed to living in town, you'll find out all the little
tricks and tips known to MOST locals. Handicapped access and parking is
one of them.

MOST buffets and restaurants in town allow preferred access and seating
to the handicapped. If there is a "COMP" line, handicapped persons can
(generally) use it.

FWIW, GVR is still sorting itself out, but like you, I agree that it
currently isn't worth the time or hassle to eat at the buffet, even with
a comp. What you may not know is that Fiesta Henderson is also a
Stations casino. Not part of the Boarding Pass system (yet) and with
slightly different table game rules, but owned by them. I wouldn't go
out of my way to eat at their buffet, although it isn't bad (the coffee
shop IS bad), but their other restaurant choices are pretty good (and a
VERY easy comp).

You will need to get down to DMV and get either handicapped plates for
your car or a placard, but be advised that every 3rd person in town
seems to have one, so finding an empty handicapped parking space is
about as likely as hitting 4 of a kind on VP. For most places, stick
with valet if they have it (and if you carry Vicky's scooter on a
platform in the back, make SURE you point it out to the valet).

Don't worry. In a year or so, you'll be an old hand at the in's and
out's of Las Vegas (and you'll certainly know MORE about it than Cliffy
does).
