Hi! I will be going to Las Vegas for the first time in September. I
really want to stay at Mandalay Bay, but it looks like its very far
south! I dont mind walking (I go to Disneyworld alot and walk miles a
day there!) but is it dangerous to walk up the strip from way down
there? I will be there on weeknights. Thanks

Mandalay Bay is quite a ways South, but there is a Tram/Shuttle that takes you
up to the Big Four corner. And once at that corner, you could either take the
tram at MGM to Bally's, walk to Monte Carlo and take their tram to Bellagio, or
take the CAT bus anywhere on the strip or downtown. So I guess it is up to
you, but you may still have some long walks, simply because the blocks here
seem twice as large as regular city blocks.

On my last trip to Vegas I walked from the Bellagio to Mandalay Bay
during the day. There is a tram that goes between Mandalay Bay and the
Luxor. Geting to the main part of the strip will not be a problem.

You won't have to walk far at all outside. There is a monorail to Luxor and
Excalibur, then across the street to MGM which has one to Bally's, and there
you are, in the middle of the strip. I wouldn't worry about being safe, just
use common sense and you'll be fine. ENJOY!

And it's not a long walk to the Glass Pool Inn.

You can take their tram to Excalibur, so you really don't need to walk up The
Strip. They also have a covered walkway to Luxor, but don't enter it alone.

If you have a rental car, you'll be free to drive anywhere on the strip and
park, then walk from there.
Best of all worlds. Trams are great for riding and walking, and, if you can
drive, most of the resorts and casinos have extensive free parking in the
rear of their buildings.

I remember Bally's as having had a large free lot behind the casino, and
Bally's is fairly well centered on the strip. Cesar's had a multi-level
parking garage.

Also, having a car would allow you to drive to Fremont Street (the Fremont
St. Experience), and you could easily visit some of the wonderful outlying
attractions, such as Red Rock Canyon and The Valley of Fire, and the Hoover
Dam.

You just answered your own question! If you don't mind walking, you'll love
Mandalay Bay! It is at the south end, but so WAS the Luxor, and so WAS the
Excaliber, and so WAS the Tropicana..........

We were at M-B in June and WILL return! Nothing but good things to say about
it. (unless plastic flowers bother you)

Enjoy!

The Hacienda was too far from everything. Mandalay Bay is not. There is
a tram between MB, Luxor, and Excalibur. Another tram runs from The
Monte Carlo to The Bellagio. It's pretty easy to get out and about from
the MB.

Next week I will be at the Mandalay Bay again for the second time. Over
the years Ive stayed at 80 Per cent of the strip hotels and Mandalay Bay
is #1 in features .sevice atmosphere etc. I wouldnt consider staying
anywhere else. You really dont feel as if you are too far from
everything because just about everything you need is right there. Now
the extreme south end of the strip is the most exciting part of Vegas.
Maybe Ill see you there

It is at the far south end of the strip. If you rent a car yoy will be all
set. We ususally stay at north end of the strip, at Stardust and we are ablee
to got to all the casinos around there, Riviera, West Ho, Frontier, Circus
Circus, and then we drive our car to see anything else on the strip or
downtown.

We just spent a few days at Mandalay Bay and loved it. It is a beautiful
hotel. Yes, it is a little far from places such as Ceasars and the Fashion
Show mall---that area. But taxis are always available. The hotel is
lovely. You won't be sorry.
