I just found this newsgroup and am going to be in Vegas for next week. Can
anyone tell me the best places for great meals at reasonable or bargain
prices

The Bay City Diner in the Golden Gate downtown is one of the better
coffee shops in Las Vegas. They have several $4.99 specials,
including spaghetti & meatballs, 1/2 baked chicken w/veggies, mashed
potatoes & gravy, & beef stew. The 777 Brew Pub @ Main Street Station
has an excellent prime rib. It's also a microbrew. Magnolia's
Veranda @ Four Queens is pretty good. Just about every coffee shop
downtown has several specials all throughout the day. The Grand Lux
Cafe @ the Venetian is pretty good, too.

Ellis Island has a famous steak special. The El Cortez has a very
reasonably priced gourmet room - Roberta's. And the Peppermill is
always a fun place to eat for coffee shop type food. Not cheap, but the
food is good and the portions are enormous.

Ask to sit in the booth where "Presto, PI" was filmed.

It's all tied up in litigation over future residuals and profits.
Once those issues are resolved I expect it to have a long and very
profitable run on YouTube.

yeah, sure. buffets, breakfast places, best steak deals whatever. If
you've had a great food experience, please share.

If it tastes great and you thought you got great value for the money, do
tell. I'm open to any great suggestions, I'm not fussy & I'll eat just
about anything. I wasn't really looking for buffets but if you know of a
great one, ok.

Oh, you are cruel, BR. Just be sure to wear some Depends if you're
not going to be near a restroom for awhile. I heard a story once
about a guy who had the IP buffet & "lost it" in his sweatpants on the
monorail between Bally's & MGM. Just something to think about.

At the Sahara Buffet they used to have a sign at the cashier that said "No
Carryouts Allowed". My buddy Joe walked up to the cashier after eating at
this buffet and pointed to the sign and told her "don't flatter yourself".

The Sahara Buffet is truly a horrific experience and is correctly spelled
with capital letters to reinforce the magnitude of it's horrificness.

On the Strip, "great" and "bargain" tend not to go together, at least
when compared to the deals available downtown and off-Strip.

The Victorian Room at Bill's has some late-night specials after 11pm,
like steak & eggs for $8.95. That's on the opposite corner from
Bellagio.

http://www.billslasvegas.com/victorian.php

Across from Jockey Club, Planet Hollywood and Paris have two of the
best buffets on the Strip, ranging from $14-15 for breakfast to $25 for
dinner. Bellagio's is also good but more expensive. Farther up the
Strip, the Mirage buffet is another good one and a little cheaper than
the others mentioned. Wynn's buffet is the most expensive but new slot
club members can earn a couple of free buffets with a certain amount of
play within 24 hours.

Other buffets like Bally's, Monte Carlo, etc. are a little cheaper but
not as good. If you're only in Vegas for a few days, spend a little
more for the better buffets.

http://www.lasvegasadvisor.com/buffets.cfm

For sit-down meals, Mon Ami Gabi at the front of Paris offers decent
value for money.

http://www.monamigabi.com/

The Palm restaurant in the Forum Shops at Caesars serves a good
"business" lunch for $19.50. Filet mignon is one of the entrees.

http://www.thepalm.com/menu.cfm?menu_id=457

For quick, cheap eats, many casinos have food courts that serve
burgers, pizza, ice cream, etc. MGM, NY-NY and Excalibur have a lot of
those.

Try the Grand Lux Cafe in Venetian. One of our favorites and
reasonable prices for good food and large quanties. Many on this group
have recommended it before. It's own by Cheesecake factory which is
also on the strip in Caesar's Forum (all the way to the end near

Agreed; I could have done without hearing that story myself. See what

help just one person not eat @ the IP buffet & defecate in their pants

If you have a car, get off the strip and go to Rincon de Buenos Aires
for lunch. Nice Argentine/Italian deli/restaurant. 5300 Spring
Mountain Rd, in the Chinatown area. A few miles north and west of the
Strip. Have a milanesa with mashed potatoes and a Quilmes. You can
thank me later.

Wow, Walt. I wrote a message with almost the exact same
recommendations for Mon Am Gabi, the Paris and Aladdin buffets, the
Victorian room. I even said Wynn and Bellagio buffets for more bucks.

I would also add:

For Italian, the Market City Caffe at Monte Carlo. I think it's an
excellent restaurant for the money.

Ellis Island steak special for $7, just east of the Strip, walking
distance behind Bally's.

The steak special at the Gold Coast, west of I-15 on Flamingo. It's
about $10, but is a good steak, includes a bear, salad, potato, texas
toast and onion rings.

Also, Ping Pang Pong at the Gold Coast is an excellent value for
Chinese. Lame name, good food.

For decent and reasonable (but not great food), the Burger Palace and
Pizza Palace at Imperial Palace are okay, too.

Downtown's Main Street Station has a fantastic filet mignon sandwich
in their Triple Seven Restaurant and Brewery. I forget exactly how
much it costs but it was under $10. The service is fast and friendly.

I don't think anyone's mentioned the massive construction going on at

probably ask for a room facing the Bellagio property.

If you don't live in an area with a Margaritaville or have visited one
on other trips, then the one in the Flamingo on the Strip might be fun.
We've been there a couple times and the food is reasonably priced (for
Strip food) and there's entertainment. Since we've always visited there
when entertaining folks from out of town, I've seen a half-way decent
selection of their food and can say that it's not bad at all. Nobody
has complained about the food or price, and it's convenient to the Strip
and also a half-way good price.

it's not bad. I thot it was a little pricey but the Peppermill like

Back a while ago, probably last Christmas, they were driving piles for
CC and had three huge machines surrounding the JC (one on each end and
one on the face) just hammering away --- at 10 pm. I suppose the 3 or so
feet separating the machines from the JC was more than enough room to work.

But it did seem the CC boys were trying to "drive" home (cough) a point
of some sort.

Try the buffets at Paris, Bellagio, Mirage, Wynn, and Alladin for
dinner. Not exactly cheap, but nowhere else in the world are you gonna
get as much variety and quality selections for that price (especially
if you're into seafood!)

For cheap/value meals in general: Ellis Island on the Strip and the
Golden Gate Diner downtown.
