I'm interested to know if anyone has any information regarding
Melinda, the First Lady of Magic. Up 'til at least a couple years
ago, she played at the Lady Luck casino. Last I heard (not
necessarily credible) is that she signed a several-year deal with one
of the strip hotel/casinos.

The Lady Luck advertised two performances each night, an early
"family" edition and a later, "adults only" performance. I sure would
have liked to see the later one... Melinda is BEAUTIFUL!! The
combination of Magic and Melinda... I can just imagine how erotic the
second show might have been!

Anyone know if she's still performing (or has plans to) in LV?

Last I heard Melinda was performing in Reno, that was a couple of years ago. We
saw her show 4 or 5 years back........not bad, but not as good as many of the
other shows. She is candy for the eyes, but as a performer she made a better
dancer than illusionist. We paid the extra $5.00 fir the VIP seats, big waste,
the show wasn't 1/4 full.
That's probably why she dis-appeared herself.......or could Lance still be just
a little upset with her? (rumor was Lance MADE her vanish!)

I seen her late show at the Lady Luck before she got hitched to Lance. Then went to
see LB the next night. Lance had a much better show but the dancers with Melinda
were much better and the guys playing basketball on the unicycles was a gas. I was
just in Reno at the end of Oct. and didn't seen anything about Melinda there.

Thanks for the responses. I still haven't found out if Melinda (Saxe)
is now performing anywhere or not, but a search of the net found this
tidbit of information:

"...The shows in which Melinda has headlined at the Landmark, the
Sands, and the Lady Luck have all been tight, fast-paced variety
shows, including additional performers such as juggler Anthony Gatto,
comedic bolo twirlers Los Latin Cowboys, and unicycle-riding
basketball players the King Charles Troupe. These shows, originally
produced and choreographed by Melinda's mom, Bonnie Saxe, have also
heavily featured dance numbers, common to Las Vegas revues and
Broadway musicals..."

Apparently, a Disney-sponsored TV show featuring Melinda that aired
last spring didn't go so well for her (some of the critiques I found
indicated that some of the illusions just didn't work as well on TV as
they do on the big stage.) Had it been billed as a "dance/magic/
variety show," it might've been better received.

Actually, Melinda remained clothed during the second show. Her dancers
were topless. Her magic is average, but she was nice to look at.

Here's the latest that I heard, from Parade Magazine:

There was a thread a while ago discussing the current whereabouts and
doings of Melinda, formerly of Las Vegas. Here, from the 8/24 issue of
Parade Magazine, a publication which many consider to be second only to the
World Book Encycolpedia as a source of current and authoritative
information, is the latest on her:

" "When I was about 13, I had a dream about being a magician that
felt so real, I thought it was some kind of spiritual sign," says Melinda
Saxe, 30, who grew up in Las Vegas, where her mother was a showgirl and her
father was a musical director. Melinda studied magic with Gary Darwin, who
has coached many of the top magicians in Las Vegas. She made her
professional debut as a dancer in the Siegfried & Roy Show but was
headlining her own magic act in Las Vegas by the mid-1980"s. "For a woman
in the world of magic," Melinda tells us, "you have to walk a fine line
between glamour and sex. If you're not glamorous enough, people won't be
interested. But if you're too sexy, they won't take your magic seriously."
She is divorced from her husband, magician Lance Burton, and lives on a
Florida ranch with her manager-boyfriend, Steve Zadrick - plus horses,
dogs, cats, a leopard, a tiger and three cougars. Future plans for the
5-foot-7 blonde include performances in Mexico City and a Christmas show on
Broadway."

As Bill says, Hope this helps.

The reviews are consistent with my view of the TV show. I had looked
forward to it, and was really disappointed.

The current magic show at the Lady Luck is Steve Wyrick. The show runs
a little over an hour, and is worth the admission fee. There are
still two shows a night, but there is no "adults only" performance any
longer. This changed effective 11/25/97.
Hopefully this change was only to provide another show for folks with
kids along, and will be changed back after the holidays.

I saw Melinda at the Marina (that sort of dates it), we tipped to sit
in the front row, that was a mistake. Every trick was really obvious,
the only one I like was where she held up a sheet, shimmied a bit and
ended up in a more revealing outfit. That trick wasn't much of a
mystery either, but I didn't mind. Maybe it was just the close seats,
but I wouldn't go back. I've also seen Lance Burton and David
Copperfield in LV. The Lance Burton show was good, the Copperfield
show was outstanding. I'd rather pay $100 to see Copperfield, than
$20 to Melinda. Just my 2 cents...

Wasn't Melinda once engaged to Rich Little?

I saw her act about 10 years ago in the little showroom at Bourbon Street.
She's definitely the sexiest magician.

Yes, that's what I thought too, then the rumour I heard was that they split up
and he ruined her career by getting her black-listed from every showroom with
the threat that if she played there he never would. Anyone know how much truth
there was to that?

I saw her at the Landmark, then the place closed a month or so later (that Rich
Little must be VERY influential :) ). I thought she looked real good, magic was
mostly big magic, low-budget, not much clever prestidigitation but an enjoyable
show. Not recommended for vampires or atheists, she wears a cross so big she
doesn't really need clothes (or maybe that was just wishful thinking).

You remember correctly. The engagement was quite the story around town
for awhile, but the break up was the real story. Needless to say, it
wasn't pretty.
While m'lady was taking potshots at Rich during her act, Rich was giving
it out in spades to his audiences (and the local news outlets). Talk
about love gone wrong.
Of course, he wasn't the most faithful of guys while he was seeing more
of Melinda then we mere peons did. He was working at least 3 different
dancers in the show (source: one of the 3). My guess is he just likes
em young.

I remember her in 1990 at MGM Marina & hubby Lance was across the
street opening for Follies Bergere at the Tropicana.

I think I read somewhere that she is performing in Biloxi.

She has made more headlines with her romances than her act.

She dated Rich Little, and there was a nasty breakup - including a tape
of their sexual interludes that was made secretly. I can't remember
which one made the tape now, I think it was Little. (no pun intended)

Then she had a very short marriage to magician Lance Burton.

Technically this is incorrect since Melinda and Lance were not married
in 1990.
