There are *three* different places where you must check the news
access plan and make any updates needed.

Make sure you have checked all *three* places #1, #2 and #3 below.

1) Folder >> Default Properties >> News Access Plan

This is the *default* news access plan for all groups. It may
not be the news access plan used by a group showing the error.
The default news access plan may have been overridden in
#2 or #3 below.

2) Folder >> Property Schemes >> (select scheme) >> (Edit) >> News Access Plan

You may have 5 schemes in Agent 8. Check both of the schemes
"Binary newsgroups" and "Text newsgroups". Also check any
other schemes which are associated with any of your groups.

3) (Select folder) >> Folder >> Properties >> News Access Plan

Check this for each of the newsgroup folders which gives the
error, no servers in the access plan carry that group.
To save time do this after you have done #1 and #2 above, for
any newsgroup folders which still give the error.

Even if you have never set a news access plan here, still do
check #3. Agent will have set a news access plan here if you
have ever subscribed to a group while the newsgroup directory
had a check-mark in "Display a separate line for each server"

When you are doing #3, check all of 3.1, 3.2 and 3.3 below:

3.1: Check that there is a check-mark to the left of the
news server name.

3.2: Check that there is an asterisk to the right of the
same news server name. This means the server does have
the selected group.

3.3: Check that there server name does not have "(Disabled)"
after it. This means the server is not disabled in the
"Tools >> Servers and Accounts" settings.

I did all three like you said, but when trying to access new

I get an error message window saying error reported by server
and underneath that is all garbage.
There IS an asterick showing in the news access plan window
next to the news server for that group.
And this same thing happens for other groups too, although
the forte-agent group seems to work.
This is extremely frustrating because everything
worked fine before I deleted the one provider
as I didn't want to pay $100 a year for usenet access
when I already had another provider where I have a
usenet block account (and I have over 2500 GB
available)
I'm ready to uninstall Agent and start from scratch
again.And I do thank you for your help.

This is now a different error to the one which you reported before.

What I said was a fix for the error which you reported before, an
error saying no servers in the access plan carry that group.
What I said was not a fix for other errors which might occur.

It appears that progress is being made, because Agent must be
connecting to the server to get an "error reported by server". When
you previously got the error "no servers in the access plan carry
newsgroup...", Agent was not even connecting to the news server.

Your description does not tell me enough detail of this new error.

when trying to access new headers from some groups, e.g.
comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.action, I get an error message window saying

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ QUOTE ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Can you take a screen-shot of the window with this (new) error, upload
it to some place like imgur.com, and post the link here?
Without seeing the error, as a rough guess it might be one of these:
1) Compressed headers are not compatible with your AV. Try turning
off compressed headers in server advanced properties.
2) The server is currently having problems affecting that group.
Contact the people who run the server.
If you want to start from scratch, just delete all the files in
Agent's data folder. Re-installing the program is unlikely to
fix problems like this.
Thanks, this solved a problem.
Arrgh ... one or three had Properties over ridden to use the old
server to post. Which was disabled.
This fixed it "magically"
Selected all folders, Tools --> Properties -->News Access Plan
Unclick the "over ride default" and hey, look it worked!
