Two questions really, but related:

1. Some (not all) PNG images I attach to my posts give 'Unable to
open' errors. I *think* this may be because they contain a transparent
section. Would Agent baulk at that? Other programs, like IrfanView,
open with the transparent section as white.

2. When examining the MIME list, I noticed that for most (not all)
types, including PNG, JPG, etc, the Delete button was greyed out. Why?
And how could I delete a type in that case?

They're Agent's builtin formats, you can't delete them. You can point
them at some other app, though.

Thanks Jaimie, understood.

On #1, do you reckon I was right in my assumption?

IrfanView opens all my PNGs too. (If the image has a transparent
background, that's shown as white.) It's just here in Agent, as a post
attachment, that some of them won't display when I use Launch. And I'm
pretty sure now it's because Agent doesn't know how to handle PNGs
with transparency. If so, a basic design flaw IMO!

Do they open up in Irfanview if you double-click them in Explorer?

Sorry, should have been more specific Explorer, for the file system,
*not* IE.

It depends if you have the Irfanview program associated as the default
program with that file type.

I have no problem launching PNG files with transparent sections from Agent.

> Would Agent baulk at that?

For launching, of course not.

Agent does not need to understand the file contents itself in order to launch
the file in an external program.

Agent launches MS Word files without Agent understanding what is in the file.
The same goes for zillions of other file types (sound, movie clips, spreadsheets, etc).

Agent would only need to understand the file contents to be able to display
it inline in Agent.

In your instance of IrfanView, but not in mine.

This is an IrfanView setting.

That's rreally my point. The OP (Terry) says that Irfanview will open
the files in question, but that Agent apparently fails to launch them
into Irfanview. So, I was wondering if they open from Explorer (which
would indicate they are at least associated with Irfanview...)

This problem is not really an AGENT issue but your choice of picture viewer.

png files are small and Agent can show them (well its OK on mine v6 XP pro 32
bit)

If you need an external viewer then tell Agent or the OS what it is.

All my jpg can be seen within Agent and using Fax& Picture viewer (M$) BMPs and
PNGs open up PaintShop pro for some strange reason.

(...I was thinking that there might be a setting to tell Agent to just
use the OS association, but I think I was getting Agent's MIME settings
confused with Agent's URL settings...)

There is such a setting. In Agent's MIME settings, make sure there is *nothing*
in the "Application" box, and then Agent will use the OS association.

There is one other minor detail for MIME attachments: if Agent's MIME
settings assocaiate the MIME type with a wrong file extension, then this
might also affect it.
