Using Agent 8.0 searching the list of news groups for either
Thunderbird or Mozill comes up with "Mozilla.support.thunderbird" but
when I attempt to download files from that group I get an error
message saying that group is not on the server. Does anyone know why
this is happening? Does Forteinc have more than one server which are
not properly synchronised - or what?

This will happen when you have an upper case 'M' in the group name, as above.

The group name is "mozilla.support.thunderbird" with a lower-case 'm'.

Go to
(select folder) >> Folder >> Properties >> Name and Scheme
Name:
[_________________________________]
and correct the group name to use a lower-case 'm'.

Giganews doesn't have the new groups either. Here is the post
describing the new groups.

The Forteinc news server (news.forteinc.com) has both the
old newsgroups such as "mozilla.support.thunderbird", and
the new newsgroups such as "alt comp.software.thunderbird".

The Mozilla news server (news.mozilla.org) is still running.
The Mozilla news server will no longer _receive_ posts in
"mozilla.support.thunderbird" or "mozilla.support.firefox",
but at this time one is still able to read the old posts in
those newsgroups.

Many thanks. The name is capitalised in the list of news groups
produced by Agent. Now that I look at it, it's the only capitalised
name in sight.

Check and adjust this setting:

Go to
(select folder) >> Folder >> Properties >> News Access Plan
Newsgroup:
[_________________________________]
and correct the group name to use a lower-case 'm'.

I had already done that. In any case, I have since deleted it. :-(

The group "mozilla.support.thunderbird" works fine here with
the Fortinc news server. I cannot reproduce your problem.
