Hi To all
agent version 7
1....I have made two accounts with two isp's one Fred the other tom both send and receive emails.
2....I have made a desk for each one named Fred and tom
3...In each of these desk I have made a email folder called sentfred and senttom.
4...What I want to do is when I send a email from Fred then put it in the sent fred email folder and
like wise for tom.
5....in the email under Filing I have selected the right folder for it BUT it just keeps putting it
in the ordinary sent folder. Once I select that should it stay the next time as well
6....What have I got wrong please?
7....OR can this be done

The "Filing" setting on the composition window only applies to that one message.

Go to "Folder >> Properties >> Posting Messages >> Message Filing"
Under "Email Message Filing"
7.1.1 Put a check-mark in the box "Override default settings"
7.1.2 Set "File sent messages in folder" to the folder "sentfred"
7.1.3 Uncheck "Use contact folder assignments to help file messages"
and "File replies in same folder as original message"
7.2 Now select all the folders in the desk "tom" which are not also in desk "Fred".
Do the same, except this time set "File sent messages in folder" to "senttom".
If you have a folder which is in both desks "Fred" and "tom" then replies to
messages in that folder won't know whether to be put in sentfred or senttom.
Agent goes by the folder properties. Desks don't have properties.

Thank you for a very detailed reply.
I must be doing something wrong, I did the above BUT now the sent email does not go anywhere.
1..........So what I did was to take out the two desk's fred and tom.
2..........Make two FOLDERS called Fred and Tom
3..........Made another folder inside Fred and called it sent1 (could not name it sent as it was in
ALL FOLDERS) put under type email folder. then named another folder inside Tom and named
that sent2 like wise type email.
4.........Set Fred folder up as you have said up above. BUT when I say send it goes out ok BUT then
I cannot see it in any folder anywhere.
What I cannot understand is why when you make a folder it goes in ALL FOLDERS AS well.

is it in a sub-folder inside Fred, or is it in another folder entirely?
You need to set the properties of the actual folder containing the email which
you are replying to. Setting properties on folder Fred does not set the same
properties on sub-folders. If the email is in a sub-folder then you need to
specifically set properties on that sub-folder.
4.2 Did you set "File sent messages in folder" to the sub-folder "Fred\sent1",
not to another folder named "sent1" which is not inside Fred,
and not to a folder "sent" without the "1" ?

Oh I see that now, so what I can do is Hide the "All Folders" so I do not see all of the other

Oh dear this is getting a bit involved Ralph ha ha ha.
I will try to explain in more detail to what I have done.
1......set up a folder called fred inside that folder I have made two more folders called fredemails
and sent1 and made the fredemails and sent1 email folders.
2.......Made a filter to send all emails from fred to the folder fredemails
3.......Select _all_ the folders in "Fred folder" which are not also in "tom folder"
Go to "Folder >> Properties >> Posting Messages >> Message Filing"
Under "Email Message Filing"
7.1.1 Put a check-mark in the box "Override default settings"
7.1.2 Set "File sent messages in folder" to the folder "fred\sent1"
Under "Email Message Filing"
7.1.1 Put a check-mark in the box "Override default settings"
7.1.3 Uncheck "Use contact folder assignments to help file messages"
and "File replies in same folder as original message"
4......Done the same for the tom folder
and "File replies in same folder as original message"
5......Go to "New Email Message" In the to box I have put the fred email.
6......In the FROM box I have put tom email.
7......Then press send.
8.....I then grotto "get new mail" the mail comes in and it filters it to the fredemails.
9.....BUT if I look in the fred\sent1 I have nothing and also nothing anywhere.

6.1 Note which folder is selected in the "Filing:" box at the
right of the compose window...

Agent will file the sent message in this folder, no matter
what you put in the FROM box.
If the folder in 6.1.2 is not the folder "fred\sent1" which you want
the message to be filed in, then do 6.2.
6.2 Go to "Message >> Properties". At the top right of the
Message Properties window, it says "Use the properties
from folder:". Note which folder is selected in the box...
6.2.1 Click the button labelled "..." to the right.

It is this folder's settings which selected where the
sent message was to be filed.
6.2.3 Go back to the 3-pane browser window.
6.2.4 In the folders pane, select the folder from 6.2.2

6.2.6 Under "Email message filing", note what it says
for the following settings
* File sent messages in folder"
* Use contact folder assignments to help file messages

These settings are what was used to initialize the
"Filing:" setting on the compose window in 6.1.

you were in when you started the message.
The idea is to always be in one of the 'Fred' folders when you start
an email to be filed in "fred\sent1". And set the properties of
all of the 'Fred' folders so the message is filed in "fred\sent1".
If you want the filing to match the from address when you go to "New
Email Message", then set each of the folders so that the email message
filing at "Folder >> Properties >> Posting Messages >> Message Filing"
matches the email persona at "Folder >> Properties >> Posting Messages >>
Personas". (If you change the from address manually, you will also
have to change the filing manually.)
